I don't think a person's occupation is necessarily any measure of their intelligence.

Well said, just look at GWB as an example.

It's not that often I have a good enough excuse to hit the ignore button.

Seems to sell on Alamy judging by some of the diabolically bad photography they accept on there.
There is often a need for this "bad" photography. Editorial usages are not about commercial aesthetic but about conveying a story. Stories aren't always about big bright teeth and perfect figures. It's just that big bright teeth and perfect figures usually sell more because of market size.

The gullibility of investors never ceases to amaze me. Take the Facebook fiasco or recent months. Dress it up, put a bit of lipstick on it and ask 4 billion.

I had a new one this month. First a refund then a re-sale on the same image for MORE money.

FWIW I had a look at past sales refunds and they seem to take on a few different forms. a) It's fairly common for someone to accidently purchase two licenses so one is refunded. b) the straight refund. c) occasionally I get a refund and then a re-purchase of the same image for slightly different license terms, usually a different date. d) a refund and then a repurchase at a lower price.

Not too sure why this the dark side of Alamy, there isn't an agency in the world that doesn't issue refunds. It just sucks when it happens to you.

James, i liked your comments. Regarding simonkr, his(?) stuff is highly commercial so it's not surprising it  sells very well. I'm not sure frame rate can be attributed to his success.

Too bad you can't use the clone tool to clean up those arteries.

I process the images to 1920 x 1080 first and then create the clip.

There's one out of India called The Three Idiots that I enjoyed very much.

I don't think it has really started yet. I'm expecting FB's price to fall by 90% of the IPO valuation within 2 years. They have no means of generating the revenue to even remotely justify it. The emperor truly has no clothes.

Zuckerbeg has been victimized by these bankers, imho. They trapped him in this scam. I hope this won't destroy FB, beside the IPO fraud, it is a decent platform to advertise yourself a photographer, and to keep connected with (possible) customers.

Hi Mark, it must be Mark right? Who else would post this.

I wonder why I didn't get $100 billion for an aerial view of downtown Vancouver?

I can't remember exactly but I think the record is around $200,000  for the Windows splash screen.
The animation? Wow..........  :o
No, the grassy field, tree, sky shot.

« on: March 22, 2012, 18:01 »
I drink bottled water in some locations of the world but here, in Vancouver, it's one of the great marketing achievements of all time selling bottled water to the masses. It just makes no sense. Never mind the ridiculous price of bottled water but  that city water is excellent and in most cases better than bottled water.

Everyone starting video seems to ask these questions. From my limited knowledge, 30fps is the de facto standard. 60 fps slo-mo is a gimmick and doesn't do much for sales but does impress your friends.

I used the model 4 a lot but have never been happy with the buttons. They are cheesy at best. I wonder if the 5 is any better.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Arcurs Bootcamp video

omg, oh, the drama!  Who will be voted out this week and who will go on to be ... the next Arcurs Idol !?! Lol.

You weren't picked then  :o

Seriously I wish him well with this project, he's trying something different which I respect him for. My one thought though (and this has nothing to do with Yuri or his boot camp) is that when the students qualify will they be able to earn a decent living, I see photography as a business constantly being de-valued.

It really is training more buggy whip makers while the Model T is being pushed off the assembly line.

I think the model better shake a leg if he wants to get a leg up on Getty's lawyers. Personally I think they'll walk all over him.

Dove the Red Sea once, lovely place. I did take a sailboat up and down the west coast of Canada and the US. And given all the navigational aids available to boaters and ships it should be impossible to hit a rock as that guy did. We had our own version of this here a few years back when one of our ferry captains drove a loaded ferry, Queen of the North into an island head on while diddling someone in a locker. To deep for you to dive though.
