Selling Stock Direct / Re: Your Stock Site: Link Exchange
« on: December 19, 2013, 12:25 »
Thanks for starting this thread!

Name of Site:  JENEimages

URL:  http://jeneimages.com

Content:  Largely weighted towards the landscape/travel  categories with a smattering of everything else. The site is still in its infancy, as more images will continue to be added to the library.

654
I've included the global link for the simple reason I want buyers to find what THEY want on the Symbiostock network and not have to venture outside or worse yet not come back! I want a buyer to feel they are on a large professional site where they can get what they need.

If I were a buyer and searched for New York and came up with only a handful of images, same for London, Yellowstone, Japan etc., you can be pretty sure I'd not come back.

As a matter of fact I'd prefer all of the linked SymbioStock images to come in as a single large group rather than splitting them up individually! I want clients to come in and explore, look around and be able to bounce back and forth between Symbiostock sites without being forced into a dead end. As far as I'm concerned the more seamless the user experience the better.

+1
With the big stock agencies they have libraries of 25M + images  so it is a good thing for new users of Symbio to have as much choice as possible for their searches. I agree, that if a buyer comes in and only sees   a couple dozen images to choose from and dead ends him there, that would result in pretty much losing that buyer.
And in this business you cannot afford to squander away potential buyers

655
Well its designed to have that option to opt in or opt out - so everyone is free to choose

However, there is something to be said about the namesake of the site - based on symbiosis - you benefit from me and I benefit from you

Try not to get too worked up about trivial matters, just concentrate on your site, and link with people that are like-minded with you. The rest will have to take care of itself

I dont know why agencies try to go after an impossible sector of the market - people who dont want to pay for images.
With these kind of people it is NEVER about the price - it is a mentality, a way of thinking, and even selling images for a nickel will not break that way of thinking down.

Your way better off trying to find a decent price point that is worthwhile for the customer to pay, and for the agency/contributors to be able to run their business, and just stick to this segment of the market. Sure it would probably be a struggle to continually grow this business - but the alternative is you are just going to alienate everyone and piss them off. Then what? Your final circumstances are even worse than what you thought they were.

can't access your site to check it out.

How many companies are going to pay for legal help for a little measly contributor? (not intended in a bad way toward the OP, but referring to us artists collectively)
At the end of the day all any company cares about is the bottom line at the end of the quarter/year, and the less expenses they rack up, the easier it is to turn a profit. Unless their are extenuating circumstances, I'm sure their bean counters weigh the potential expenses vs potential returns, and usually come to the same conclusion every time - it is not worth it.

The best scenario would be to have the offender take down the contraban - everyone is happy, no court costs for the company, artist gets a measure of releif, and the offender gets off  easy.

H'mm Shutterstock have $$$$ in the bank....they could probably buy them out.

would you put your money in a sinking business?
FT doesn't have anything of value that SS would would feel compelled to buy. SS has probably a better quality and just as big of an image bank as FT has - in fact I wouldn't be surprised if 1/4 of it  overlaps with the same images. SS search engine and website is way better for both buyers and contributers I think, so no value there. The only thing of value would be FT's market share in EU - and why buy something that you know you will probably be able to pick up next to nothing in a few years time?

Thanks for the news Jim.  I think this would have slipped by most of us.

The sounds like Shutterstock entrace into the German market was quite well timed.  For better or worse...

I think Shutterstock management is very business savvy when it comes to these kinds of things - they have the pulse of the industry and know whats going on, so it isn't mere coincidence that they have opened up an office in Berlin. If and when FT folds, SS will already have a foothold to take on the clients of FT.

Lets just hope that somewhere's down the line, they dont become like every other micro and squeeze the life out their contributers. Anyhoo with the way things seem to be going I am glad I am on my way to set up my own shop through Symbio

General - Stock Video / Re: Do you add start and end fades
« on: December 03, 2013, 15:09 »
most people dont do any effects on their vids - just straight video for 10-20 seconds and thats it.

most buyers will just use a snippet of a video most of the time anyway in their projects, so they will add / modify any effects they want in their projects anyway, if that is in their vision/ clients vision.

Maybe be sure to get some legal agreement with your girlfriend. Breakups can be costly. (NOT suggesting anything personal - I don't know you or her; talking from life observation.)

Sad part is that we all still submit images to them  :-\
I haven't signed up with DepostPhotos.  I already have enough people giving away my photos, don't need another at this time.

I haven't signed up with DP either. Ain't uploading more stuff to the other sites either. From now on, every single one of my new images will be "exclusive" on my own Symbiostock site.

Feels great!

Atta girl!!

Thats the way to do it!!

Why on earth did the posts later in that thread accumulate so many negatives?

Probably beacaus eMisterElements is a DP fanboy

Only 150 or 170? I thought the list had 200+ something sites in the network?

There are currently 158 sites in the Symbiostock network and it is gaining momentum.

You can see how many sites there are at the bottom of the following URLs:

symbiostock.info

http://cascoly.com/symbio/list.asp?list=25

Christine "I can't help either I eventually just accepted that people using IE will not see the colours in my site as I do not think this will affect sales."

Redneck "I'm on version 5.2.12. Your version should work, too. I guess the white screen error is caused by something else."

Lusoimages "I've just conducted a few searches on my website and in the symbiostock page and I've detected something that got me worried.

I've noticed that when a keyword is composed by two words it's ignored by the search."

marthamarks "However, I do have to say this:  symbiostock-search.com redirects to this:

http://cascoly.com/symbio/symbiostock-network.asp

I find that a very confusing and unattractive page to look at and use. I'm reluctant to send any potential buyers there, to be honest."

Symbiostock_Newbie "One of the images I uploaded recently won't process for some unknown reason. It seems to process, but then when I go to "all images" it doesn't show up there. When I go back to "process uploads" the image is back there again awaiting processing!"

Snap Vectors "Hello. I've had three purchases on my site since yesterday. However, all three customers emailed me right after the sale, and said they couldn't see how to download their file."

Flawless

Symbiostock is still very much in its infancy - in fact all the big guns in the stock industry had to start from scratch, with one of the biggest ones today being started in the creators little apartment he lived in.

"DON'T DESPISE THE DAY OF SMALL BEGINNINGS"

People learn along the way in any building endeavor, and there are mistakes, glitches, obstacles, challenges, but anything can be overcome and worked out with time and effort. In fact ALL websites continue to be works in progress, and ALL experience hicups from time to time.

I think Symbio has created interest at the very least at this point, and its only going to continue to increase in momentum. Sure the contributors are relatively small in number with only a fraction of images available than the big guns, but it is increasing every month.
The thing I have noticed is that each contributor is very proud of their own site whether it is relatively simple or has a greater wow factor, and to belong to a community of like-minded content providers. This is what makes Symbio sites different and a unique place for buyers to have an alternative buying experience.

Sure Batman always gets the spotlight - but don't discount the importance of Boy-Wonder.

remember - "DON'T DESPISE THE DAY OF SMALL BEGINNINGS"

Photography Equipment / Re: My First Blog
« on: November 22, 2013, 08:48 »
I have a black rapid and I never go out without it :)

the BR is a nice strap too, and I've had that longer than my CS strap - the one thing I found inconvenient about the BR is that since it screws into the tripod socket of the camera, its a hassle to unscrew it if your using a tripod.

Here is my first ever blog on my symbiosite - its a review on camera sling strap.

I tried not to be too wordy, while providing enough detail to be informative.

What do you think?
