Haven't sold any, and just have to wait and see.
Sure. It's a free world, and you never know.  ;)

New Sites - General / Re: is cluster shot still doing biz?

Maybe they're hanging with the people at Albumo
;D - 50$, no thanks. I had an extra year for free after my complaints they mixed snapshooters with pro's in the search and they didn't introduce licenses and sizes. I just canceled all. It's beter to lose 20$ than to waste time on stuff that will never make it. Double that amount and you're on SmugMug that is a gazillions times better.

Veer / Re: Veer Dash for Cash
« on: August 28, 2010, 18:31 »
you should check the date for those in your pending que. if it's 6-30-10, then its within the deadline. i had submitted a bunch by us pacific midnight, but some rolled over into 7-01-10, which probably won't be considered.
Thanks, I got it. My 140 waiting are all dated 7-01, even if I upload all night CET (I have to copypaste all my IPTC info since they only accept the Adobe IPTC scheme) till midnight Pacific US time = 9am CET. A full night hard work for nothing.

They took my local PC time, not theirs. I should have backdated my PC. Well that's it. I will reach the 400 but not under the DFC prgram. I could have better gone flip hamburgers that night. All the time wasted on uploading to Veer (considering the copypaste of the IPTC) I could have made 2-3 times more flipping than having to C/P IPTC on 700 images (luckily, still 340 in the edit queue that I don't have to do any more).

I'll check again in December but they're off my upload list from now on. They think my images are ""too editorial" and my models have "unnatural poses". I won't change my style for them. I'm fine with my sales at the better-selling sites.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: 2 EL at the same time on IS
« on: August 28, 2010, 17:59 »
I never got an EL on IS in 5 years. On DT, it's more than a year ago, not counting the PEL's. On SS (let me check) February 2009. But I'm just a regular. Now let me go on flip some hamburgers and earn some real money.

I have been on Hubpages for 6 weeks now, mostly to share my travel experience with my photos. My hubs have been read over 3000 times, not sure if it's good not not. I made $10 in the first month, definitely not a lot of money.
Forget all that crap. Make your own site on Wordpress (free) and sign up for a Google Ads account. If your content is good, you won't need those "passive income" sharks that make ten times the money you could earn ever with those morons.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Anyone a Getty contributor?
« on: August 28, 2010, 16:30 »
What I want to know is, if you are a Getty contributor, how is it working out for you financially and regarding your creative fulfillment... and any other thoughts about the joint.
As far as I read all your few posts, you are only here to ask info about anything, not to share anything, not even your port. Yes, I know a way into Getty. I will gladly tell you after a 1.999$ consultancy fee by PayPal.  ;D - Ploink.

Hey I love DT. I have 180 pics on DT. I am not very good... but my sales are going up all the time. Then again I do have a secret formula.

Yes, work hard and build a good portfolio, you will do well.

Veer / Re: Veer Dash for Cash
« on: August 28, 2010, 11:27 »
me neither.  I'm guessing that those of us with images still pending don't have the total in our account yet.
I had 330 or so approved in the DFC program and still 140 pending. I really was going for the 400 (obviously). I have to admit I submitted the last batch beyond the 12 midnight European deadline, but within the US Pacific deadline. I'm just curious if they will accept this last batch within the DFC program.

I Don't know. Put a link to your port here so I can compare.  :P - Please also indicate the shots that sell well and can be copied easily.  ;D

Oh my God Allah Flying Spaghetti Monster Sol Invictus!
Yesterday 3.5$ today 212.1$. Please don't tell me it's a glitch. Please!  :o

208.6$ - how can that be? The highest price (for resale) on this shot is 125 Veer credits.

Update: got it. They must have paid out Dash for Cash, and the image sold was just 3.5$. Sigh. If something looks too good to be true, it isn't true.

Well.... the L lenses only go up in weight from the 24-70. That's about the lightest one I own.
The 24-105 is lighter and many people claim they don't see any difference. Ask Lisa: she has both.

I am all for deleting files that are 2 or 3 years old that haven't sold.  The sites have millions of those and should remove them automatically.
DT does it. On IS, they end up in the $ bin. That doesn't mean an image has LCV. It can sell OK on other sites.

Vile slander. He did nothing of the sort. It's just a lie put about by his enemies (though even they didn't claim it was for poetic inspiration, you've embroidered it FD .... you must be in the Flavian camp!)
You must have read too much of Tacitus. Ok, ok, the Christians did it!  :P  "Nero Fiddled While Rome Burned"

I used the 5D mk II as well, and the 24-70mm was on that most of the time. Used both for both wildlife and landscape - sometimes the wildlife was right in my face and othertimes the 400mm made for great landscape shots.
Well the real reason I asked is that I have a 5DII with a 24-70 which is great (but heavy) for general work and landscapes, but a little bit short even for portraits. I couldn't imagine using a 24-70 for wildlife on a full frame, and I was thinking of a 70-200. The problem is they are around 1000 euro.

6. I live about a hundred miles from Yellowstone
Well, keep your tripod ready all the time and your batteries charged! You're an illustrator? Oh well. Have a large plastic bag ready in the drawer to put your drawing pad in.  ;) Nero had Rome set afire to get inspiration for his poems. Maybe a flying magma chamber over your head will do the same.  8)

This model girl with headset thing has really got me worried. I've been putting off shooting model girls with headsets because I've been working on model girls with stethoscopes ( i'm a doctor!). Do you think I should drop that for a while and get some headsets?
You can try unusual combinations like cigar-smoking senior ladies looking at stethoscopes with a headset on. I don't know what concept it would be, but it's certainly niche. :-p

Best to sit on behind until regular reviewers with brains in head return from vacation.
With just 1/3 of your pictures from DT on SS (116), Joseph, maybe the problem is with you and not with SS.

It would be nice if there was a formal study done on a large number of image buyers to see what the top trends and issues are.
Photoshelter published a report on buyers' online habits (500 buyers) about a year ago. You have to sign up with Photoshelter (free) to be able to download it. Amongst other things, it contained very valuable info about webdesign to bring your bounce ratio down.

Can somebody use lightboxes to put his or her images ahead of the pack, create a franchise in a sea of commodity-images? If so I am interested in participating. The real question is can it be done? If so, how?
It will only have a small impact on your overall direct sales but the collateral impact on your search position might be more important. But in fact, we don't know that since the search algorithm is a very well guarded secret on all sites.

I don't have any real proof of impact of having independent light boxes, but you can catch some random sales for sure. What's interesting about those are that they are credit and not subscription sales. Last week I had 2 N/A credit sales of level 5 images on DT, and looking into my Google Analytics, I saw an exit to DT from my site (where the images are up) around the same time. That's no proof since it's incidental but that's one of the ways how an independent light box might work.

There is a valuable lesson in this: don't link your images to low-earning or sub sites, since the buyers there are already very knowledgeable about microstock. Many aren't. You should link to credit sales sites, or at least where a random credit sale is easy.

About the social networks, I always avoided them witnessing people wasting too much time on it. But as all sites are pushing FB and Twitter so much,  one could ask if their research didn't show those generate important sales in the overall traffic. They wouldn't make that programming and design effort on their site if they weren't convinced social networking was an asset.

We have clients that go to our competitors' websites, download the low-res/thumbnail and ask if we have the same images. Why would they do that if they don't care about where they license the images? Why would they go through the trouble of involving a second agency when they know for a fact that they can buy the same image from the first agency? It sure seems to me that clients do care where they license images.
It all depends on the price difference, since your research and scouting time costs money too. In the case you can monetize such an effort, beware of sites like Picscout and some others in the making (genre "Best Buy") that will make that process virtually automatic. In that case (having a price advantage), you'd better inject your collection into Picscout.

This from the agencies' point of view. Contributors should be very weary of this trend towards trans-agency virtual photo-agencies too. One day they will regret uploading (or opting in) to bottom-line price agencies, in their greed for the extra cent.

lol It makes no difference to me if I have credibility at microstockgroup.com or anywhere relating to microstock.  I'm not after credibility.
Oh my, do we have a little attitude problem here? Just some good advice. Try to do some work instead of infesting forums here and at DT (where I sadly can't block you) with incomprehensible BS. Sweet dreams, and PLOINK.  :P
