This week, my revenue per clip sale on Adobe was only about $4. All sub sales. This is disgusting. I'm very disappointed. I had over 7,000 videos on Adobe Stock before video sub started 1 year ago. I deleted some after the video sub started and moved them to Pond5 Exclusive. Then I deleted thousands of clips recently to only about 1,600 clips left. If things don't improve on Adobe Stock video sales, I'll delete my video clips completely on Adobe Stock and go all Pond5 Exclusive.

In regard to pricing, based on my own testing, I haven't seen any difference in number of sales between pricing at $49 or $79 for HD clips or $119 or $199 on 4k clips. So, I keep my $79/HD and $199/4k clips. Different contributors with different content may have different results of course. But I feel comfortable with my price to maximize my revenue on Pond5. REUTERS' clips on Pond5 is priced at $199 for digital only and $1199 for all media even if it's HD only.

I just calculated my average royalty revenue per a clip sale on Pond5 Exclusive account in March 2023 excluding GPP, Enterprise Custom sale and Subscription earning. It's about $58 per a clip sale. That's $46 more than $12 average on Adobe Stock now. My price on Pond5 are $79/HD and $199/4k. About 10% of my sales were in 4k. Also about 25% of my Pond5 exclusive sales were either "Custom License" or "Premium License" that were above the price I set. I've been on Pond5 since 2011. I know and understand some contributors don't do well on Pond5 somehow and do better on other sites. So, I understand my case doesn't always apply to others. But if you are established on Pond5 and price your clips at the same level as I do, I don't see any benefit keep selling on Adobe Stock any more. If you sell your clips for less than $50/HD and $100/4k, you probably don't want to delete your clips on Adobe Stock. So, this is not for everybody.

I just compared the effect of Adobe Stock video subscription on my video portfolio. Before the video sub started, my revenue per video clip sale was about $31. Now it's about $12. About 65% or 2/3 of video sales are cheap video subs now. Only 10% are full price $28 royalty sale. 4K sales are also down significantly from 10% of video sales before video sub started to only 1-2% now. After they started the video sub, I deleted about 15% of clips that didn't sell well on Adobe Stock but sold well on Pond5 and moved them to Pond5 exclusive. After that move and video sub rollout, number of video sales increased only by 15% or so on Adobe Stock. Total revenue from video sales decreased by nearly 50%. Every time I see "$2.80" video sales, it's depressing. That only makes me think how much I could've made on Pond5. So, seeing my average royalty now is only about $12, I decided to delete most of my clips on Adobe Stock unless they are selling at least 5x more than on Pond5. By moving those clips to Pond5 exclusive, my royalty on Pond5 will instantly increase by 50% because of 60% royalty on Pond5 exclusive vs 40% on non exclusive. My HD price on Pond5 is $79. So, 50% increase in royalty (60%/40%) results in about $16 increase that's bigger than $12 average royalty on Adobe Stock. Also what I was afraid of was big buyers who used to buy on Pond5 at full price taking advantage of Adobe Stock subscription and buying everything cheap. So, I deleted most of my best selling clips on Adobe Stock too if similar clips are selling well on Pond5. I may eventually delete all my video clips from Adobe Stock depending on how things go. At Pond5, I get more 4k sales and premium license sales. It's a good feeling to see my products aren't given away for 1/10 the price I want to sell for. Adobe Stock did the video sub to expand its customer base and compete against cheap low quality stock video sites, but I see they only expanded their customer base by a little. They're just giving away our clips for pennies instead. That's not good for me. My new upload will be to Pond5 exclusive only. When they announced the video sub 1 year ago, I thought it would be a matter of time they would end up like Shutterstock, but that time has come now for me. Adobe Stock video sub was a little better than Shutterstock because they excluded 4k clips, but 4k sales are almost non-existent now on Adobe Stock. So, I just got to a point I felt like I needed to take this bold move and see what happens moving forward.

These are the clips sold this week. https://www.pond5.com/stock-footage/item/106310359-wild-elephant-wanders-through-city-chinahttps://www.pond5.com/stock-footage/item/105155412-mob-beat-queue-jumper-limited-edition-air-jordan-sale-chinaHow do I know these were sold? Go to the "Footage" page https://www.pond5.com/stock-footage/and scroll down to "TRENDING FOOTAGE" section and click right arrow a few times. Those are highest grossing clips sold within a week. So, if you have a rare not always in demand footage with no similar clips out there, you may want to put them on Pond5 exclusive and price them high. For the one or two times somebody needs that clip, you don't want to give it for pennies on Shutterstock video sub. Also, you better not price them at $25/HD on Pond5 just because it's not selling and it's shot on your phone. If somebody needs it in rare occasion, they pay much higher than $79/HD $199/4k standard price if they can't find a similar clip for less. Now I'm pricing that kind of clips at $129/HD and $249/4k on Pond5 exclusive. I see $300-500 clips selling regularly on Pond5 exclusive. So, maybe I should price some of my clips at that level too. There's nothing better than getting 60% commission at my own decent pricing. Don't sell your clips cheap!!!

I had occasional high price sales yesterday too. No, I'm not bragging. 2 on demand photo sales that's nearly 30x most photo sales.
4 nice photo sales that just kicked-in today, making those 10c subs look like background noise.
That's nice!! What the size of your portfolio? I have about 7,000 photos and videos are turned off.
1500+ photos and 300+ videos
Wow. You must have very high quality contents!!! My stuff is mostly crap.

There's no way to measure "Talent". So, I say people with the most sales have the most talent. In that regard, I have almost Zero Talent because I have almost zero sales.

Hard work beats talent (if talent doesn't work hard)
From my personal experience, with microstock, sheer luck beats talent and hard work. Might not have been the case when the selection of images was more limited, but now with millions of images for competition, it's mostly a matter of luck to have the right image at the right time displayed somewhere.
This one sold for around $100: https://www.shutterstock.com/image-photo/orange-industrial-transportable-dumpster-container-1668704380
I still have some images where I put lots of work into where I seem to have been able to produce something that is in high demand and the images sold hundreds of times. But even "hundreds of times" can, in worse case scenario, still mean like $50 only. For me it's rarely the images that are in high demand and sell in large quantities that bring in the money. It's the ocassional high amount sales that make the difference between a good month and a bad month on Shutterstock and these, at least for me, are often really random. I really can't attribute having earned $100 from a very random photo of a very random industrial dumpster, that took me literally 3 seconds to take, 0 seconds to post-process and under 10 seconds to keyword to "hard work" or "talent". Anyone who follows the minimum image quality standards of Shutterstock could have made, uploaded and sold an image like this. All it needed was luck.
That's a beautiful photo!!! Nobody shoots a dumpster like that!!

I do. Hard work beats talent (if talent doesn't work hard)
Exactly! Work and acquired knowledge (through work) is the answer. I am not blessed with talent, I'm no artist, I'm an engineer. Everything I do in this field comes from research, analysis and self-learning, not from luck, not from talent.
I have "Zero Talent".
Btw, here is another sale that qualifies for "occasional high-priced sale", that just happened today on SS:
I'm the one who really has Zero Talent!!! Zero talent and zero sales. Your portfolio looks great!!

High priced sales pretty much had stopped for me before the 10 cent scheme started. I went from a few a month (with a few 0 months per year) to a few a year, to maybe none the year before they screwed us. That was one of the main reasons I was mostly ok with turning off my port. Also the average RPD drop from ~75 cents to about ~25 cents and the overall income dropping more than 50%.
Before I turned off my port I looked back at some of the good years. Wow, no wonder it was fun and exciting looking at stats back then and all that with a port that was half the size or smaller.
Yeah, good ol' days.

Turned my photo port back on yesterday and just got a $2.29 on demand sale!!! I can get a slice of plain pizza with nothing extra on it maybe!! Because of that 1 on demand sale, my RPD just jumped from 10 cents ish to respectable 32 cents!!! Shutterstock rocks!! Easy money. Get rich quick!!

Anybody making more from videos on Adobe Stock because of video subs?
Earnings is same as previous year with regular upload of new video files, but last month downloads increased by 4 times and earnings increased by 2.25 times comparing with July 2021.
Wow, that's nice!! How many clips do you have?

Those low value sub video sales are spread through different contributors, so just because you are making less doesn't meand Adobe is.
As for the photos, my earnings are up, not sure about RPD and downloads because I haven't done any statistics.
Who knows? But I hope Adobe is making less money because of this stupid video subs.

Shutterstock Video sales 2022: Total sales(videos) - 491 $150+ - 1 sale $125+ - 2 sales $100+ - 7 sales $75+ - 8 sales $50+ - 5 sales $0.25 - 26 sales
What about other 400+ video sales prices? How many are below $10 and $5?
Below 5$ - 236 sales Below 10$ - 52 sales
and the total avg is around $13.
Thank you for the detailed number. 60% of video sales now are cheap subs and the average sale price for all video sales is only $13? That's horrible. Unlike Adobe Stock's video sub, Shutterstock's video subs are for 4k clips as well. I sell most of my 4k clips for $199 on Pond5. So, I'll get about $120 on my exclusive account and $80 on my non-exclusive account. I don't miss selling my videos on Shutterstock. I don't think I'm losing any revenue because I don't sell videos on Shutterstock now. Some big buyers know my portfolio. If they have a choice, they'll take advantage of Shutterstock video sub. Historically, average video sale price on Shutterstock was in $25-30 range before video subs began. In 2019, it was constantly over $30 per video sale. I just checked my earnings reports in the past.
Pond5 is not performing well for me, Just earned $500 in 2022 with 21 sales, which is less than my single month earnings on Shutterstock.
I prefer 60-70 sales a month with an avg of $13, instead of 2-3 sales month with an avg of $25.
My last 2 sales on Pond5 ( GPP slaes) were $1.92 & $1.12
Those GPP were Pond5 clips on Adobe Stock sold via video sub. That was horrible.

I just calculated my sales data of first 2 weeks of August this year and last year. I see brutal effect of video subs. My results below.
In 2022 compared to 2021,
#of videos downloaded = up 8%. Total video sales revenue = down 40%. Revenue per video download = down 45%, $20 (2022) vs $36 (2021) 70% of video sales in 8/1-14, 2022 were video subs in $3-$5 range.
# of photos downloaded = up 9%. Total photo sales revenue = down15%. Revenue per photo download = down 21%, $1.07 (2022) vs $1.30 (2021).
VERY DISAPPOINTING!!
Do you see a similar trend???
If most contributors are making less money because of video sub introduction, Adobe must be making less money like we do. If so, what was the point in doing video subs??? I don't understand those corporate folks.
