What does this mean in terms of earning?
For those earning $0.25 or $0.38, how much will earn now? And on demand? And same for enhanced and single other?
This is so confusing. I went through the SS forum which is on fire right now, with no proper guidance from the officials.
For subs the official wording is "not less than 10 cents". So i take that to mean probably about 10 cents. They've refused to publish the new earnings schedule and say it'll go live on June 1st. So refusing to tell anyone in advance what they'll be "earning".

I'm not entirely sure what kind of a bet Kate at Shutterstock lost to be the face of this fiasco.
I'm not even sure Kate is a person. But if she is, I think she'll go the way of Alex Shutterstock soon.
I think its a person. Sent me a PM telling me to stop asking questions in the initial thread then banned me. Not seen bots do that before!

It is on Shutterstock forum, she is an admin. 10 cents I would like not to believe her. [/quote]
She contradicted. First post said existing sub fixed fee was going and ALL percentage based.
She then said "minimum 10 cents" which contradicts that.
I asked directly what the MAXIMUM is twice and got no reply....i suspect 10 cents.
So 0.38 down to 0.1 at BEST maybe.
The fact that they introduce this with 5 days warning, have a mistake in the email (video pricing) and dont seemingly have ANY updated earning schedule to show contributors is crazy.

Theyve mentioned previously that far more people are on the 350 and 700 pacakges than the lower ones. The bulk of the images are from those tiers.

They've confirmed the percentage is for sub sales too.
So for higher volume sub sales, people are going to get $0.03 or $0.06 per image. Instead of potentially $0.38 now.

Email v forum post for videos
This likely explains why we have different levels. They couldnt even be bothered to proof read one of these.

The email and forum post video tiers are different. The email has videos the same as images. The forum post has videos being 1 stage lower than images. Which is still bad.
I cant wait for my first 15% of a $10 4k video subscription sale in January.

I suspect video people will be hit worse due to the way the tiers are structured.
Very few will sell enough to get into the top tier. Currently EVERYONE gets 30% of videos. From january initially everyone is going to get 15%.
A low-mid video contributor may sell 10 videos a month? That means they're on 15% until November or so then only up to 20% by year end and getting reset back down to 15%.
How many people sell 2500+ videos a year? Very vew. How many sell 25,000+ a year? even fewer.
So for most people its an immediate cut of 5% minimum then a massive cut in january.

I think they created the problem for themselves with the accept-everything policy they had for a year or two. If anyone remembers some of the highlights like the guy with 25,000 pictures of boats in the same marina and so on unchecked. The brute force method of gaming the search. Unfortunately they seem to have gone too far the other way now in trying to correct. No doubt theres AI involved (which as above isnt perfect, pattern/colour recognition amongst other things getting it wrong) and an element of lazy reviewing not actually checking.
To me its random, some batches i get no rejections, others i do, sometimes its most, sometimes none and so on. Theres no consistency which makes it hard to work out what they class as similar or not.

The new subscription model is paying off then.....

I had a similar price sale last year for a video. By pure chance i then found the use - it was on a huge advertising billboard above a shopping mall in Kuala Lumpur.
So things like that i guess.

$3.36 is likely the new $10 per clip sub package.

April dropped off massively to me and May looks to tracking April almost identically. Its 50-60% down on average so far. Not just on SS but on AS etc. My AS rank doesnt seem to have changed so im guessing its a theme for most people.
A lot is going to depend on content. If, like me, most content is travel and outdoor related im guessing not many people or advertisers are buying that or using that content at the moment...

I don't know if all of his portfolio is lifted from other artists, I just know that three of mine were. SS took those three down after I reported it.
What is stunning to me is that SS only took down your three clips, and not closed that FKR's account.
Sadly thats common. Look at the large number of image theft threads here and on their forum. To complain you need to be the copyright holder and they'll remove the specific items. There's no system to report an entire portfolio for theft. Its been an issue for a few years now.

Ive just had 2 x $3.56 video sales in a row. Its a figure i've never seen before but almost exactly what the commission for this subscription thing would bring so i guess the dark days are now here.

Again, is there a merit to starting something on change.org to atleast get the people not on these forums riled up?
An opt out would be nice, plus definitely a more detailed understanding of how this subscription will work for contributors. We currently assume we get 30% of price, it could be a fixed value like image subscriptions

True but ultimately if the buyer is paying $10 for a 4k clip, no matter what, its unlikely SS are going to give the contributor anything approaching $10...

Ok it looks like SS is going IStock way to me and that means they are only getting HD footage while 4k are going to Pond5 edit:and adobestock
this is easy to do.
Thats a decent idea. 4K makes up a tiny % of my video sales at SS anyway. That and the odd search engine actually excludes downsizble 4k clips if a buyer clicks on the HD filter....

If other sites are selling your clips for a fair price, it maybe better to remove video off SS to stop sales declining there.
How likely is that though?
"Hmm, Shutterstock have reduced their prices quite considerably? That's nice of them... but I think I'll try and find a considerably more expensive site and see what I can buy there instead."
That depends how much they want your particular clip vs any generic clip of the same topic. Large companies also have accounts on multiple sites. If the same clip is on both sites obviously they'll use the cheaper. If its not, they'll likely use it on the other sites they have subscription too.

I just read this and had to double check.
So $10 per clip. INCLUDING 4k clips.
Contributors get roughly 1/3 so people selling video are likely to earn a whopping $3.33 per 4K clip.
And obviously this will enable buyers on clip pack and other packages to transition it means you're going to lose out on current sales to be replaced by these joke sales.
If other sites are selling your clips for a fair price, it maybe better to remove video off SS to stop sales declining there.
Ultimately under current packages its $100 a 4k clip whereas it'll now be 10. Even if you dont NEED all the clips per month its still cheaper. From a buyer point of view, if you use more than a handful of clips a year you'd switch. So you wont be paying the normal price.

Just guessing.... Noise and artifact rejection?

This just came out from SS. It makes no sense as reviewers work in their homes on computers and no computer has ever given anyone a virus.
Unless they have in fact outsourced a large chunk of reviews offshore to somewhere like India which is on 100% lockdown nationwide.

SS has been showing solidarity with contributors by randomly terminating accounts with no warning !

I've had a batch rejected for incorrect location when the location is selected from their own auto complete box, is correct and the only locations in the meta data are exactly the same as that.
Had another for "Translation required" for a photo of a lake and some rocks. With full English titles and metadata.
I think they've been sniffing all the hand sanitiser they've hoarded.
