Yes, you can share your photos and get comments and favs but there is also a marketplace which SELLS the files ... You don't need a HUGE preview image if you are just looking to share some photos...

Giant previews with a useless corner water mark is why I do not upload to 500px.
Me too! I wonder how some photographers can sleep at night knowing their images are just screen captured and stolen so easily. It blows my mind.

Sales at FT were good this month because someone wanted to download 6-7 EL's of my images ... I assume it was the same buyer as it was right in a row but next month will be back to the same downward trend for me.
I worry it will be a very bad year and to top it off my health insurance increased $600 a year ... Seems like everything is getting more expensive while we are profiting less. (sorry for the complaining though)

It seems like every time I turn my back we are getting ripped off, used and abused. I'm getting so sick of this. I thought CM was going to be a good thing and very promising.

I have noticed each agency may "calculate" the 1099 differently so make sure you understand the final number. For fotolia, they will report the amount you earned that year regardless if you "cashed" out those credits or not. Just do a view stats > credits earned for that year and the numbers should match on your MISC 1099.
They do not use the number that you were actually "paid" out via paypal ...
One year they made a mistake and had to send out revised ones. That is why I wait until the end of march to file ...

I know SS does not have Exclusive ... I just choose to only upload to them now. I'm sick of uploading photos to other agencies and making less money. Seems counterproductive ...

I'm definitely out of the loop. Sorry if this topic has been mentioned already. I did a search but didn't see it.
So new work has no "light".
Maybe I shouldn't go through all the effort because their keywording is a pain to do...

For many years I upload 1 or 2 files every couple of months to istock and they ALWAYS reject everything (mostly because I do a lot of conceptual photoshop work). However, this past month they have accepted everything. I'm going with it!
So is this just a numbers game with their competitor? I was just going to be exclusive with SS because the other agencies are on a downward spiral but istock seems to be a good second earner for some.
Not sure if this is a good thing ... Have you guys noticed?

I am in the process of deleting my port there. They should report the amount you actually receive...

One of my images was used on cbs news and at first I was happy to hear but then when I saw the story I was taken back. Take a look at this video: http://www.cbsnews.com/videos/agencies-updating-stock-photosThey talk about stock photography images being "generic" and use one of my images. A rep from shutterstock is on it as well. What are your opinions...

That is insane! I just emailed them about closing my account. Not worth it for me ...

This is a screenshot of my earnings. So what you are saying is that they are going to consider my earnings "$42.40" even though I technically only receive "$18.86"? Where does the difference go on the MISC 1099? This doesn't look good ...

It will end up as an all-you-can-eat buffet of junk food. All the lukewarm day-old French Fries you can eat, for one low price. I haven't seen that business concept tried yet, but personally, I would not invest. :-).
You hit the nail right on the head! I don't think were afraid of competition, now our work will be "diluted" down in the search results ...

I'm surprised they are doing this. I just applied to Alamy and they want 4/4 correct and I got accepted on the first time, I felt pretty good about myself. I can't imagine newbies feeling good about getting accepted with a 1/10 ... No confidence booster there ...

I would love to sell my images with 500px but they don't even have a watermark on the images! Is it just me or is it insane! So what if the right click is disabled - there are tons of free capture a screenshot programs to capture them.

For me the huge preview is the primary concern. Due to that, I am not uploading to SS. There are other agencies and other ways to earn with photography, and this is actually a great opportunity to discover them, maybe move on to the better. SS was my comfort zone.
Also....I signed the petition and feel that since I did that, it means something.
I totally agree with you! But what other websites are there to "discover"? Most of them are offering big previews now it seems. Bigstock doesn't but I'm sure they will soon ...

I have not uploaded in weeks but it would be insane to delete my entire portfolio - all the images are in the wild anyway. I'm hoping my new images will find a nice home somewhere...

DT is really going downhill as well as FT and 123 for me. It is a slow downward pattern. If I upload more it does not matter. I agree with mantis, why spend money on props and time when it doesn't even make a difference. I do not upload to them anymore now.
SS was "the one" for me but since I have signed the contract, I do not upload to them anymore.

Strange, on Firefox, no watermark and on IE a watermark. Not sure what is going on.

So true! People see my photos in ads and they think I'm joking when I tell them I get less than $1 for the download.
I am self-employed and have zero retirement...

Oh goodness you are right! I didn't even see the comp image preview download. I like the zoom in feature on the image. Why is that not good enough for them?
This is upsetting too...

So is it safe to say all stock sites are going to offer the gigantic previews now? Removing the watermark on small images offered some safety because thieves couldn't print it very well but now they can because the resolution is so high.
I'm trying to find websites that don't offer the big preview (DT has a good solution but low sales). Not sure what to do. The new preview definitely threw a curve ball at me.
