It would seem that it would be sensible to avoid this, at least until they straighten out their licensing and content issues.

General Stock Discussion / Re: If you had six months...« on: July 22, 2009, 08:20 »I started uploading in January, with maxing out upload limits @ IS. Today i have 950 approved online, with a total collection produced since jan., of 2500. Anything at all is possible, set your sights high. Your profile says January of 2008. I don't think you could get 950 online in six months starting from nothing. Nice collection. 6754

There was a guy on istock with six months, and I think he got about 100 accepted...

"Many valid uses"? So, you haven't even decided if you are offering a commercial or editorial license? It doesn't sound like this has really been planned out. How do you plan to cover credit card cost minimums on $4 images while paying out %60 (one advantage of credit packages, which, btw aren't a necessity, but do solve some issues).

Yes it is and most fractals are like snaps from a camera until they get bored and toss it aside. If you've pushed it further, congrats...

Sorry, and no, I haven't had any particularly bad experience. But as istock moved from designers little secret to what it is today, there have been changes. And I don't expect to agree with all of them. And if you are ever successful enough to be mentionable things will change to. Like less royalties because you need to expand or whatever.
And again, I don't see a family business as any benefit. Acclaim had big problems once because of family conflicts. Instead of a benefit, it becomes a problem. And where does that leave contributors? 6761
New Sites - General / Re: Anyone heard of 3D Studio« on: July 20, 2009, 13:00 »
"Give you a voice"... until you find it advantageous or useful not to. Unless you're assigning voting shares to members. Otherwise, it's just a business that takes suggestions like any other. "Family run" doesn't mean anything either - it isn't my family.

"Goofy credit based system" ? That system was essentially what created the microstock market. It also creates a slight psychological disconnect for buyers between their wallet and their purchase.
Aside from just charging higher prices, how are you "changing" the market? 6763

Since anyone with a fractal program can push buttons and spit out images, they aren't very valuable, and istock doesn't even accept them for the most part.

Site Related / Re: Microstock Twitters« on: July 18, 2009, 07:06 »I still don't understand what this is for.A complete waste of time. News feeds on established sites are great. I think the kind of people that worship Twitter are the ones that dump the forum of YAY full with help no sales while they don't have time left to shoot stock. Today I canceled my Facebook. (when I came online after 3 months a few chatboxes popped up with hey wazzup?). Twitter will be next. It really is mostly useless. Things that will get you removed from my follow list. Incessently retweeting other people's input. Constantly posting polls. Carrying on conversations back and forth with others in the stream with unending doting for whatever their last comment was (that's what email is for). Stupid shortened words like #togs and #tweeple. Posting "follow fridays" lists to your same buddies over and over. 6766

I'll need to keep an eye on mediapost for further articles, but my takeaway from that is that Hispanic teens in the US are pretty much like any other teen. Just Hispanic and large in number.

I get 5-10 a month on iStock. Nothing to do with credit issues - they absorb that. Mostly client downloaded wrong size, wrong photo, etc.

If you have an existing stock video online presence, I see no reason that you need to hid behind anonymity. You're a business who is out there selling. Why not show us your existing stock site?

General Stock Discussion / Re: Cultural Diversity, What is Needed in Imaging?« on: July 12, 2009, 15:54 »Same thing rings true for ethnicities and there cultural differences. Just an observation, ya'll can shoot anything you like as long as it makes you happy. For me it only takes a bit of time these days to learn about different cultures on the internet and I find it fascinating as well as educational. I doubt there's much to worry about when shooting two models having burgers at a table outside, and one of them happens to not be caucasian. 6773
General Stock Discussion / Re: If I had to start up a new microstock site« on: July 12, 2009, 13:28 »
I'll just comment on this, because reading all of that was starting to hurt my melon: "As a stock house, selling only exclusive will limit the quantity and we all know we like to shop in places where you can find more options than just a few."
Another site selling the same stuff everyone else has isn't going to break into any new markets, or be any more successful than anything out there, and will probably be a lot less so. 6774
General Stock Discussion / Re: If I had to start up a new microstock site« on: July 11, 2009, 18:00 »I read a suggestion about partnering with existing smaller siteshere or on another forum or blogand that seems to me to make more sense. For those with ideas and initiative: Maybe you should find a good small site and get in on the ground floor instead of thinking about starting another agency/site. Tell them what they can do to improve or serve you better! Also, as small site artists, are you helping them attract buyers? OK, you took great photos and put them on the site, but have you done anything to help get that word out? Remember, what benefits them also benefits you! We are always willing to listen to our artists and ready to work with them. What's the point in spending time to help someone else get big enough eventually to treat you badly? They can't be cute mom and pop forever. Eventually they will become a big business just like any other. Quote David's blog also talks about networking which I think is vital. But it seems nowadays people seem to be concerned more with privacy than with getting to know others. I think its counterproductive to keep my email address secret when I am in business to sell something! I am curious: Why do so many artists hide their email addresses? One of our artists blogged about this on our site a few days ago, in a blog post about badly designed web sites. So I am not the only one wondering! : So you don't get spam, pretty simple. I do have a contact email, although there really isn't much reason for anyone to contact me - my stock is on the sites where it is ready to buy. 6775
