Well, I don't know if this is what you're talking about, but I make my living by selling photographs, with exclusive rights, to advertising agencies. Of course, these are commissioned assignments. My agent usually quotes two prices, one for limited usage, and one for exclusive ownership. The ad agencies always choose the exclusive rate, which I love, because it's the higher of the two prices. I've never sold one of my stock images for exclusive use, but only because I've never been asked. I would though. Everything is negotiable.
What do you ask? I just quoted $900 an image licensing rights for exclusive use for 3 years to someone.

The lesson is not to shoot in an IKEA environment since Yuri took that market already.
Running scared is not necessarily the lesson either.

And 1/100 of the earnings?
Not necessarily.

I got a response to my complaint email to REI: Thank you for your email and the opportunity to explain the incident that occurred between one of our customers and a security company servicing an ATM in our Seattle store. It is unfortunate that the situation escalated to the point that the police were called by the ATM security officers and the customer was detained by the police. At no time did REI detain the individual and we did not request a trespass to be invoked. We do not intend to enforce the trespass issued by police, and the customer is free to visit our store in the future.
We appreciate people sharing their varied points of view about what should or should not have happened at the store. We regret that the matter couldnt be defused before the police became involved. One step we are taking is to discuss with the ATM security company ways to prevent the circumstances that led to this problem.

I cant imagine what his building costs are plus all his props. No stock photographer has that kind of overhead. That is insane. Paying for a complete staff, models, MA's, Assistants out the wazoo. I just dont see how he makes so much money after all his overhead.
He doesn't. He said his profit is only 20% in another thread. Here's my studio tour. "Check out this wall here. Here's my clothes rack. There's the bathroom. Now, get out."

Holy heck, that's a lot of overhead costs! Nice setup, Yuri.

Maybe I'm just a silly consumer, but I still hate the name "clustershot".

Summary, 1. Set a goal for X number of ideas. 2. Write them down. 3. Make them your own (ie. American Idol )

This one would never pass iStock review due to some policy known only to them as well as I don't know to comply to their 'needs' in stock illustration ;-)
Thank goodness.

To wit: searching for 'hamburger' gives 3014 images; 'hamburger nobody' gives 483.
When people have posted in the request forum for images with no people, I use the "nobody" keyword and pick content from that return. So, my picks (and the savvy buyer's) would be from 483.

Yes, you have to pay regular income tax on your "dividends".

I never use "nobody" keyword in my images.
I dont know, it is ridiculous to me. I think buyers never use it. If they do, they will miss a lot of good hamburgers without "nobody" keyword :p
And your hamburgers will miss a lot of good sales from buyers looking for images without people.

I'd like to write this off to recession, but wonder if that's really it, or is it just seasonal, or what. Any thoughts, validation, or reality check comments are very appreciated and THANKS FOR THIS BOARD - nice to find it!
Attribute part of it to the number of "Make money with your images" websites and "classes" that have appeared in the last year or so.

Whatever I want to spend, I guess. I don't try to analyze it with equations or anything.

Do you really think that buyers type "nobody" in search?
Yes. Although, if it offends you that much, I suggest not using it.

And they love istock too http://my.softarchive.net/search/?q=istock
I guess we can say they like iStock vectors. I didn't find nearly as many iStock "collections" as there were ones tagged with SS in the title.

'no thanks' is a fine response. Not having fine anything or been accused if anything, no reason to go over there.

"But in this instance, the guy escalated the situation to where I believe the only recourse was to physically remove him from the property."
How did he escalate the situation, aside from questioning how they were going to illegally attack him?

I'm sorry. Tell me how a snap from an iPhone would assist in robbing the store? You couldn't just say "pssst... the atm is by the door!" An iPhone snap is hardly going to give you the technical know how to do a Terminator 2 style key code theft or something.
6924
« on: May 12, 2009, 14:56 »
Disagree. Someone snapping a pic on an iPhone is hardly a threat to national security. I contacted REI and informed them we won't be shopping there until an apology is issued.

We also got killed on 2008 taxes, to the tune of $10,000 combined owed federal and state. Super huge *gulp* ...
I wish !
