Stocksy / Re: Call To Artists is Open!

I wish they took underwater stuff. I would gladly pull al of it off micro to work with Stocksy.

Why wouldn't they take under water stuff?

Or, you can just set it out there at something like ... iso 100, f/8 and 1/30s put the lens at infinity, set it and forget it ... but, whatever ...

I'm afraid I was not clear enough. Let me try once more:

When you set your aperture at f/8, you don't always get f/8. You get +/- 1/3 stops (maybe even +/- 2/3 stops) because of the unavoidable mechanical imperfections of your diaphragm.
This exposure variation will result in a nasty, annoying flickering. Yeah, you can run the final sequence through a flickering reduction software, but it is much better to eliminate it from its cradle, if you can.

On my 50mm that's the only way I HAVEN'T got flickering ... in manual why would the camera change anything at all when your intervalometer triggers? Internal software change or something?

I'm sorry, I can't explain better that what I already wrote above. I suggest you do your own research to find out more.

Remember that with SLRs the camera always opens the diaphragm to full open regardless of your f/# setting so you have a bright image in the viewfinder. As the picture is taken, it stops the opening down (to the f/# you have set) just before opening and closing the shutter, so this full open diaphragm to stopped down diaphragm (to whatever f/# you have set) happens every time a shot is taken. This is what causes the  variation or flickering because the mechanical diaphragm will not close to the exact opening every time. Not a problem for stills because it is close, but flickering will show up in a timelapse due to the small variations in actual diaphragm opening.

If you  already have Photoshop, that can do it for you.

Amazing work!
It is also interesting that he markets on sites like SS vs. "higher end" sites/outlets.

705
When does it get to the point that the top quality producers feel that it just isn't worth it anymore? If/when that time comes, that would be a turning point. Yes cameras are "cheap", but models, locations, time and other production costs aren't.

706
I consistently see more video sales $$$ from P5 vs. SS

707
Putting my money for photos on GraphicStock Marketplace opening on Sept. 18, 2017. Why because I minimum I will be getting $3.50 per download, I can live with that and I am hoping buyers will come there! I am done with 38cents. If I can't sell an image that can pay for something on Taco Bell menu then I am not going to sell it!

Is there a reason to be hopeful for this agency? POND5 sells images where you can set the price, but seemingly virtually no buyers.

Does it look different when you play the "original" unedited file on different platforms?
What software are you using to edit?

...and according to this phone conference, the number of subscription dls per buyer dropped and dls are down. So fewer dls and 57% more images means we're not crazy when we complain about a huge decrease in sales. Doesn't look good for the future.

So if downloads are down....where are the customers going?...another site(s)?

iStockPhoto.com / iStock - Minimum Paypal Payout?
« on: July 25, 2017, 15:00 »
Is there a minimum amount $$ you need to reach to get a monthly paypal payout on iStock?

Thanks below! I knew paper check was $100, but didn't know about paypal, I guess they just won't send you any money no matter what
your payout method is until you reach $100!

Photoshop Discussion / Re: Soaring cost

I switched from Photoshop Elements to Affinity Photo over a year ago and have never looked back. Affinity is a great program that offers a wide variety of features from basic to sophisticated. They also have a Designer program.

Affinity Photo is available for both Mac and PC. The regular price is about USD $50 or the equivalent in other currencies, although sometimes there are discounts. They're still on Version 1 with several incremental upgrades; I'm on V1.5 and V1.6 is supposed to be out soon. These upgrades were free, but they've indicated they do intend to charge a fee for full-version upgrades (e.g. V1 to V2).

I'm not affiliated with them in any way - just a satisfied customer.

What would be interesting is if/when Affinity photo develops features that are clearly beyond what PS can do....then things will get very interesting from a competitive standpoint.

How about DaVinci Resolve...

It's not free for 4k. And if you're doing time lapses, you're doing 4k.

Anyway, get ND filters for your biggest lens and you can use step down rings for the smaller lenses. Same filters.

I'm pretty sure it does UHD...so probably close enough.

715
Great stuff! I need to improve a lot, that's a given.

Any free software anybody would recommend to start off with to post-process the video...then perhaps something that's inexpensive (I'm on PC btw)? Also need some ND filters...I have one for my 10-20mm but need one for my 24-70mm.

How about DaVinci Resolve...

I would suggest uploading to POND5 as well.

Pond5 / Quicker Review Times?
« on: June 07, 2017, 16:50 »
Just had a number of videos reviewed in about a week (vs. 6 to 8 weeks in the past) on POND5. Are others seeing quicker review times as well?

By editing, do you mean metadata?

720
In DaVinci Resolve, look at "Data Levels" in "Clip Attributes" on "Media" tab there are three options "Auto", "Video", and "Full". Frankly, I am not sure of what they mean, but I do know that having the "wrong" one checked will throw off the color.

721
New to Pond5, so I have no idea how sale will go but just had Pond5 videos reviewed in the same day.

Found it a really easy site to upload and submit to. I had a couple not accepted but the review was helpful and specific.

Just a quick question, does anyone put something in the description box? If I leave it blank is that lessening the chance of being found or is the title more important?

thanks
suz

Wow, same day? usually takes many weeks. Was it a technical rejection?....I'm guessing rejections like "unsupported codec" may be automated and therefore quick.

If it is a power thing, do you have an external powered USB hub to try?

It's actually connected to such a thing at the moment. Though I wonder if I would see an improvement if I connected the Pioneer unit directly to the mains power (might need to order a new part to do so.) Then again, it's designed to do it's job receiving power through usb.

also remember that SS accepts editorial, but Fot does not.
What surprises me is the difference between iS exclusive and non-exclusive in the table.

The amount is $60+ dollars, seems like a lot for returns. I only make a few hundred a month from iStock

Customers can give files back. Sometimes years later...this is deducted from your income. And if you have a negative balance you have to wait until they cover the refund.

Other macrostock agencies do this too.

But I have never seen this anywhere else on the micros. Maybe some do, I dont know.

If you make a few hundred $$$ a month, then the $60 returns should clear out pretty quickly.
