I think the owners have managed to copyright it. Not that it makes any sense. Photos are sold anyway.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Any sale coming from Albumo?« on: November 08, 2007, 07:32 »
To me, Albumo looks like a very boring place with very boring photos. Even photos that look good at other agencies look colorless and bland at Albumo. I consider quiting.

For those of us not living in the United States of America, this doesn't really matter at all. It's not unique for a stock agency to move around a bit. Many of them are based two or more countries, for tax, commercial and operational reasons.

SnapVillage.com / Re: First sale...« on: November 05, 2007, 10:24 »
I don't like subscription sales either, but with SN, I can at least choose for each image. So my "low value" images are $5 plus subscription, while the rest are 10, 25 and 50 without subscription.
At StockXpert, I've opted out of subscriptions completely, and I consider withdrawing my portfolio from low-selling agencies that sell mainly subscriptions, like Crestock. The headache is DT, which is my third best selling agency, and where it's not possible to opt out. 706

New Sites - General / Re: The Best of the Worst« on: November 02, 2007, 22:25 »There's no place for other big agencies. The top five is there to stay. It's still early days, and agencies with enough resources, like Snapvillage and 123rf, must certainly be counted in. Age Photostock also have plans for a microstock offspring, and I don't doubt that it will be an interesting attempt. 708

General Stock Discussion / Re: POLL: October Earnings« on: November 01, 2007, 23:45 »Not hard ones. When I make it into the 10k+ category I will probably spend my days cruising the west coast in my sailboat ... That was my plan too, but since my sailboat is on the other side of the globe, I wonder if I should sell my boat and buy a D3 instead. Not that it would increase my income, but I would probably have more fun earning what I do ![]() 710

No, we are not benefiting. The buyers they attract, are the ones currently buying at higher prices at other agencies. Cameras / Lenses / Re: Nikon D3 pictures test« on: November 01, 2007, 06:51 »
The D3 is such a leap forward that it makes it possible to take photos where it hasn't been possible so far, at least not if stock quality is needed. I saw a photo of some bowling pins, frozen mid-air a fraction of a second after they were hit by the ball, taken with available light. Pin sharp, with very little noise. That kind of did it for me.
I don't need to see more photos. I need to remember where on earth I put those $5,000 that I hid somewhere in that dream I had the other day ![]() 717

I don't one which one is the up-sampled one, but the lower one is clearly sharper. Did you do any sharpening as well?
With IS and SS, I'm very careful not to do anything, except down-sizing if I feel the image isn't sharp/noise-free enough. Their reviewers are technically very skilled. 720
StockXpert.com / Re: subscription impact on sales?« on: October 30, 2007, 18:02 »
Had my first sub sale today. XL size of my most popular image at StockXpert, and a very unique one. Full price would have taken me to the payout limit.
I've opted out. 721
iStockPhoto.com / Re: iStock - slow sales« on: October 30, 2007, 08:52 »
Something strange is happening. After 5 months of sinking sales, I suddenly have BME at IS (twice the sales of last month with two days left), and my first EL there as well. SS on the other hand, has hit bottom like a rock this week, after very steady sales all October.

SnapVillage.com / Re: Snapvillage QC?« on: October 27, 2007, 22:12 »That's right...the 'snappyness' thing takes into account views,reviews,downloads...so I suppose it'll take a while for the picture to get shuffled into any kind of order. There's a lot of filler, similars, and suchlike turning up in searches at the moment. I upload what I believe will sell. Unique photos, I upload to Alamy and MyLoupe, but I will probably have some of them at Snapvillage (maximum price) as well. 723
General Stock Discussion / Re: How would a recession affect microstock photography?« on: October 27, 2007, 21:42 »There's another interesting question Pixart - what will happen when JPEG images are eclipsed by their replacement format? Jpeg seems to be a survivor, just like the fax, which has been obsolete technology almost since it was conceived. The problem with any replacement for jpeg is that there will be economic interests involved. Since jpeg is good enough for most uses, there isn't really much incentive to replace it. Not being dependent on any particular hardware, like most technologies that become obsolete, there isn't any reason for anyone to throw it out. The exception is obviously companies like Microsoft, but when they launch a new format, it's to make a profit, and users know that, so they are not buying. What happened with the FAT standard (hard-disk formating) was a lesson for everyone. MS waited until all card and camera manufacturers had implemented the standard until they made them aware of the fact that they were entitled to a license fee. Every time you take a photo, it say "pling" in the cash registers in Seattle ![]() 724
iStockPhoto.com / Re: iStock - slow sales« on: October 27, 2007, 21:30 »Based on how many uploads? My stats looked really good the first six months, but unless you can keep uploading large quantities of images every month, you will hit a wall at some point34! And I didn't upload much the last 6 months! Sometimes, I have seen that my sales increase when I stop uploading at IS. That has happened on two or three occasions. It may be a coincidence, but you never know what is hidden in their complicated search engine. |
