That was pretty zoomed in anyway, but I've got a 1080p crop of it as well, without the bright rock action!

I recently bought a Sony AX100. 4K at 24 or 30fps, 1080 at 60fps (I think it does 120fps at 720p as well... still learning!), a 1" sensor, 100Mbps bitrate, built in ND filters, zebras, peaking, audio in, control it remotely with your phone, decent zoom and some pretty impressive video quality... what's not to like?! Picked it up reconditioned for $1250.
One of the first shots I took with it... 705

Happy with getting 100% commission, average earnings of just under $300 a month from a pretty new agency that was easy enough to upload all my existing stuff to, and a $1000 payment for 50 of my clips that had average earnings of around $2.50 a year?* Yeah, I was pretty happy with that deal.
*The 50 clips I let them have were my 50 lowest sellers, and only had about six sales in the previous two years combined. 706

Would have happened anyway with the price increase and the default sorting for marketplace items. If things had stayed the same then it's unlikely my poorest items being available for free, would make people use those rather than buying my best items. I mean, there was no impact to my sales for the year after I sold them... only when the changes came about in September.

No, haven't gone exclusive. Volume seems to be slightly higher than before, which is helping to cancel out the drop in commission. Although to be fair, my sales do fluctuate quite a bit, so it might take a while to know for certain if it's having an effect or not.

VideoBlocks / Re: Storyblocks - any signs of life?« on: May 17, 2019, 04:55 »
I 'did the math' and sold specific clips at a price that would have taken 10 years to recoup if they'd remained on the marketplace...based on the average annual revenue from those clips. Since the changes made in September, it would have been more like 40 years. So essentially, my decision resulted in more money than I ever would have got if I hadn't have sold them.

It was less than $10 a month before the marketplace came along, but there were still plenty of people willing to pay $49 for a HD clip. Those days are gone unfortunately.

Pretty much normal. This month looks like it could be the best of the year... they always do though. Give it a couple of weeks!

Richard Pryor hacked into his workplace's computer and siphoned off all the fractions of pennies that the workforce earned but we're never actually paid... because they couldn't pay out less than a cent. Good idea!

So that's what that does?! Eleven years using AE and I never knew! I click it all the time when I accidentally miss 'composition settings' in the dropdown, but as nothing seemed to happen, I never knew what it did! Thanks!

Yeah, I completely agree.... sales are now like the occasional tumbleweed rolling along a deserted town. Just that "went totally to subscription model" doesn't sound like you were commenting on the sales, like you were commenting on some change to the business that (for example) shutdown the marketplace. I mean they may have well as, as that's what it feels like from the amount of sales these days, but the marketplace still exists and sales can/do happen.

Can't remember the exact number (it's on the site somewhere but can't remember where to find it either), but it's either 90 or 95% of sales at Pond5 are HD or 720p... and the other 5 to 10% are 4K. So not having any 4K in your portfolio isn't going to make much difference to your sales right now. Just having 'a few more clips' or 'slightly better quality clips' would result in a HD producer making more than a 4K producer.
However, I'm pretty sure that 5 to 10% will increase over time, so you're just future-proofing what you're shooting... so you don't have to go out, buy a 4K camera and shoot your entire portfolio again if and when 4K is the bigger seller. 718

Yeah but that doesn't mean it's impossible. Is it impossible to run 100m under 10 seconds? I couldn't, most probably couldn't... but that doesn't mean you can state it's impossible, like it's some kind of fact. Definitely agree it gets harder every year though.

I'm with Pauws99... not rude, just a tiny bit blunt and completely false. Although it could be a cunning ploy to dissuade would-be competition!

VideoBlocks / Re: Trends« on: May 05, 2019, 07:52 »
Yeah, but they've been buying out content for years and there was never any gradual drop... there was, however, a massive and extremely noticeable drop exactly when the price increase came into effect. The eight months before the price increase... I had $2073 in sales. The eight months since the price increase... I've had $521 in sales (and only $150 so far this year).

Well it isn't their content (the agencies), and in some of the instances you've mentioned, it isn't your content either... so it's kind of understandable that nothing can be done. Surely you'd be the first to complain if you had some of your content removed by a DMCA submitted by some random person who isn't even the copyright owner?
Sure the setup isn't ideal, with plenty of shortfalls and loopholes, but I'm not sure what else you would suggest? Other than the agencies hiring teams of investigators at great cost for minimal, if any, return. And if they did all this investigation stuff/research rather than just doing the minimum with regards to DMCA action (removing or not removing content based on the info/actions of the two parties... wouldn't they then not even be doing the minimum with regards to DMCA action? 724
Image Sleuth / Re: Abiding by the DMCA does not mean you "take copyright seriously"« on: May 05, 2019, 06:14 »
So just guessing here, but... somebody filed a DMCA against you, the agency removed your content, but you believe the DMCA has no merit?

Just went to dashboard and statistics, changed the range to 365 days and divided the amount by 365.
