General Stock Discussion / Re: April 2011 Stats« on: May 02, 2011, 01:00 »
Very pleased with April, but not with Istock. Istock went down 28% from April 2010, but the other sites happily covered the loss. All sites went up, but the real credit should go to Shutterstock and Dreamstime. Dreamstime has become my no.3 now, taking IS's place. Fotolia went up in downloads, but down a bit in dollars due to missing EL's. Bottomline : 9% up compared to April 2010. I don't compare with March, because April is ALWAYS lower than March.

Dreamstime.com / Re: Important Dreamstime Announcements - New Pricing Structure« on: April 03, 2011, 11:17 »
A year ago, I sold the rights of 1 image on DST. I had not changed the default price, so it was sold at 350 dollars. It was not a popular image, so 350$ was a good deal, and I managed to get it off the other sites very quickly.
However, I was not asked by DST to sell the rights, I was told that the rights were sold, so I realised that - if this had happened to one of my bestsellers, I would NOT have been very pleased at all. After that day, I changed all my sell-the-rights prices into 2000 dollars. Now my question is : if a person buys the exclusive use for 1 year, what will the price be? A percentage of my 2000$ ? Or a price fixed by Dreamstime? I think I prefer to switch off that choice for all my images now. Can this be done in one move? Anyone now how? 731
General Stock Discussion / Re: Microstock Earnings Breakdown - March 2011« on: April 01, 2011, 15:46 »
Well, March was an interesting month. Used to be a BME every year, but not this time.
What made it interesting : 1. For the very first time, Dreamstime beat Istockphoto, which made DST number 3 and Istock number 4 (but only just) 2. 123rf did very well, and gave me the only BME of March. 3. Fotolia and Shutterstock had a 10% increase in downloads compared to March 2010, but ended just below BME because of fewer EL's 4. All sites came close to their BME (March 2010), except Rodeo and Istock, who both went down about 40% I expected a decline this year, but did not expect that this decline would be caused by Istock only. 732

2,5 is a typical price for XL Standard at Fotolia, so I'm afraid that must've been a mistake.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Expectations: what is your approx. return per 100 images« on: March 13, 2011, 08:17 »^^^ There's a lot of PS expertise available from places like India at relatively cheap prices. Just Google it. The difficult bit might be finding one who is used to working to microstock quality standards. You don't need to work together with them, just use their time and services for the isolation work. I tested this company : http://www.clippingprovider.com/CP_II_EU/Welcome.html You can send them 4 to 5 test files for free. Send them a few of your best shots, and choose difficult isolation cases, like the wolf. Later on, you can sell (1) the wolf on white and (2) the wolf-against-the-moon like already suggested. They even add the clipping path. 735
iStockPhoto.com / Re: Jan/Feb fraud - reduction of royalties coming« on: March 11, 2011, 11:12 »
I'm just wondering ...
- my total loss (this month) is about 26 dollars = 5% of January sales (so the 1 in 20 rule goes for me too) - my lowest figure in the fraudulent download list is 1,9 dollar - my lowest sales in general (for XS size) is 0,20 dollars (average 0,25 dollars for XSmall) Did the thieves only steal large sizes, or did Istock take back the full sales price instead of "just" our 15% royalty? And one funny thing : he/she stole one image twice ![]() 736
Microstock Services / Re: LightBurner.com by ProStockMaster/Pixamba - new FREE online submission service« on: March 05, 2011, 12:03 »
I remember that Isyndica used to have thumbnails in the left column, followed by empty buttons for each channel. These buttons turned yellow when they were ticked (assigned), and green when the image was successfully submitted to a channel.
If the user wanted to submit an image, he/she just ticked all the necessary buttons, followed by a big "submit" button. (as far as I remember, you could also "submit all" images of a batch to all channels, or submit all images of a batch to one particular channel). Right now, I have a batch of 20, assigned to all channels. My upload limit of istock was on 18, so 2 images were not submitted (I had to wait 17 hours before Istock allowed me to submit again). I have the impression Lightburner does not do a second trial, so I have to check and find out at Istock which 2 images are missing (I cannot see this in Lightburner) and re-assign them. I realise this would mean a rather big lay-out change, but if we could see which image went to which channel, that would be great! 737

Thanks, now I understand why I cannot delete them, but how do I remove my login and password from these channels then? I just want to exclude the standard Bigstock channel from my personal channels list - to avoid that I click both (by accident) when I assign a batch.

Absolutely. This is the one thing I miss most : keeping track of what has been submitted (and to which channel), which was really easy at Isyndica. Now I just delete everything that's been submitted before uploading more. 743
Adobe Stock / Re: Fotolia - Give us Payoneer, cheque, ... something!« on: February 13, 2011, 13:52 »
I haven't had a PP problem since I joined in 2005. And even more : 3 times, PayPal solved a payment problem for me. 2 were from Ebay, and one was another Internet purchase. 3 times I got my money back with PP's help. So for me, they SOLVE problems instead of causing them. And if they ever need to block my account a few weeks during investigations, so be it.

Not a bad idea. Not just say "these are part of a set of 26" but also add "advised by reviewer to submit all 26 apart instead of collages".

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Resubmit 26 pics or as a "set" ?« on: February 07, 2011, 15:19 »
I don't think they've changed their acceptance policy since August. Rejecting your set would really be rediculous. My letters are photos, and 26 on 1 page is too much, or I 'd have to reduce the size drastically.

Submitting 26 images could mean more money too, but a few months ago, I submitted the 12 zodiac signs as 12 separate images with a note to the reviewer "part of a set of 12" ... and gues what : 9 approved, 3 rejected (for 3 different reasons).
I finally managed to get them all through, but only with a LOT of effort/resubmissions. 749
iStockPhoto.com / Resubmit 26 pics or as a "set" ?« on: February 07, 2011, 11:47 »
Hi, I just got 4 images rejected - nothing unusual of course.
I had shot 26 images containing the letters of the alphabet in a (hopefully) original way, and I combined them into 4 separate images as sets of 8 or 9 letters. The rejection sounded like this : We appreciate your generosity in including multiple images in one file, but this is generally discouraged unless it adds to the composition of the photo. Please submit each item as a separate image. Now I can do various things : - send in 26 images, but we all know the reviewers will not approve all 26 - so that leaves me with a portfolio with missing letters! - go to Shout - wait 2 months and try again - give up Any other ideas? I thought "sets" were allowed in cases like this. Did anyone get "sets" through the reviewers-gate ? 750
