iStockPhoto.com / Re: Delay in payments..January 2nd 2009
« on: December 18, 2008, 17:54 »
I put a payment request in yesterday and received payment today. That has NEVER happened for me before at istock! As the cheerleaders would say.....wooyay!

I immediately transferred the same amount of money to my savings account.  :)

Which is why I love Firefox on Mac. Doesn't seem to be many folks who are interested in hacking Macs. And please, I'm not saying it can't be hacked, just saying the incidents are pretty low. Oops, hope I just didn't jinx myself.  ::)

Off Topic / Re: eBay crooks
« on: December 16, 2008, 21:21 »
A couple of years back I sold a few things on ebay with no problems at all.

A couple of months ago I sold an iMac, since I bought a laptop. It sold for over $500. The buyer paid me promptly and I shipped the computer next day, UPS with tracking info. Paypal would not release the money to me until a) the buyer received the shipment and Paypal could verify tracking info or b) the buyer left positive feedback on ebay.

I provided BOTH things and yet Paypal would not release the money. After speaking to three different people who gave me various sorts of runarounds and told me there wasn't anything they could do, I finally spoke to a supervisor (about three days later) who released the money.

I use Paypal to receive all of my microstock payments and never have an issue, but I will NEVER sell anything on ebay again. Ebay and Paypal are linked so closely that it seems like the way to go. My beef isn't really with ebay, but with the Paypal connection.

Cameras / Lenses / Re: Canoneers - Your advice please
« on: December 14, 2008, 11:44 »
I also use the 28-135mm all the time and love it. Not a telephoto, but a great all-around lens.

I also have an early copy of the 70-300mm and would not recommend it. I couldn't get a decent shot out of it except at the 70mm end. Had to send it back to Canon under warranty. They replaced some parts and it works much better, but even with IS it's tough to get non-blurry photos on the 300mm end. It must be used on a tripod to get any kind of decent shots at all, which pretty much defeats the purpose of paying for the IS. Plus it takes very soft photos.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Won't read IPTC data?
« on: December 08, 2008, 19:18 »
I had that happen last week. Looked through the forums but didn't see anyone else mentioning the problem, so I just let it ride for a couple of days. Then it worked ok the next time I uploaded.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Spamming = more sales
« on: December 07, 2008, 11:01 »
I think that the spammers that add irrelevant keywords to their pictures only think they are helping themselves. As a buyer as well as a contributor, I find it really annoying when I'm searching for one thing and have to wade through a ton of irrelevant pics, whether the picture is good or not. I think that spamming plan is only going to backfire on them. I could be wrong about that, maybe they know something I don't. I certainly do agree that if admins are going to take the time to go through a file's keywords, they should lock them down when they finish editing, but allow the contributor to edit by email.

7282
I just tried to upload three files and they show up with all the IPTC data missing. There must be something going on (what else is new) with their server. Think I'll wait. I know my files are ok as I've uploaded to two other sites and all the data was there.

StockXpert.com / Re: Overall, is it worth it on Photos.com?
« on: November 23, 2008, 13:37 »
Yes, it does take 2-3 weeks for your port to show up. Mine just did and I have gotten 3 sub downloads in the last 2 days. Hope the ppds come soon, too.

I just started getting photos.com and jui sub sales. Opted in about 2 weeks ago and just noticed sales. No photos.com ppds yet, hoping to see those soon!

StockXpert.com / Re: Can Anyone Login to StockXpert Yet?
« on: October 25, 2008, 15:31 »
I can login and see my earnings OK, but I can't post to a forum on the StockXpert site, it keeps asking me to login, when I already am. I can't change anything in my profile, get the same problem. Something is still wrong over there. Bug or have they frozen everything with the Getty purchase announcement?

I checked and I am opted in for affiliates.

I checked and I only see a button for Alliances. Is that the right place to opt in or out?

I don't know why so many people seem to jump at the worst, before they look or ask questions? Did you really think one of the biggest microstock sites in the world, doing tens of thousands in business, would try to rob you of $73?

And I don't know why you didn't read the first couple of posts. I did ask questions. I did email support and ask the question. And no I don't think I would intentionally be robbed. But thanks for your late-to-the-party details.  :)

Pixart, you are correct. It does show the total for both months there. But I swear it used to just stay in the total, where it says earnings this month. Maybe I'm thinking of another site. Well anyway I'm glad it's still there.

FYI, I called Shutterstock support phone number today. The gentleman that answered said that they will only handle subscriber tech support at that number. They are no longer equipped to handle contributor questions or problems. How's that for support? I couldn't even get them to tell me what you guys just told me. Hmmm.

Anyway, thanks for the tip on finding the missing money.

Shutterstock.com / No Shutterstock Sept. Payout
« on: October 16, 2008, 17:25 »
I think I know the reason why...$75 minimum and I only had $73 something. But usually the money stays in my account until the next payout. This time, on Oct. 1 it disappeared and my account showed 0. I have emailed support, after explaining the problem they asked for my username and I haven't heard anything back from them. Sent another email a few minutes ago, restating the problem and asking for resolution.

Anyone else have this problem this month or is there a new rule whereby if you don't make the $75 minimum they just take your money?   :'(

I was doing 3d work for a large defense contractor (think flight simulator content).  Military work ain't my thing.

Interesting. And yes, military work is boring. Did a little myself many years ago, worked on the training manual for laser guided missile systems for Kuwait at Ford Aeronutronics (owned now by Lockheed Martin).

You do well at photography, I can tell you enjoy it.

7294
like what I do.  I also like it much more than what I was doing.

@Sean...what did you do before stock?

I like shooting stock and I find it to be a great creative outlet. Sometimes my day-to-day work (graphic design) gets monotonous (more graphic production than design), and dreaming up something that somebody might buy, for me, is fun. I do think the post processing and keywording is a chore.

Overall I wish I were independently wealthy and could take stock photos, and travel and take nature shots all the time. To me that would be a dream come true.

Upload releases, following magnum's advice. And no, the browser shouldn't matter. I use Firefox all the time.

StockXpert.com / Re: Payment delays....what's up?
« on: July 18, 2008, 17:47 »
I don't know when I requested my last payment, that doesn't show on their site, but on their site, my account says the last payment was June 26 but my paypal account shows the deposit going in on July 1. So much for 3 days.

But then I've noticed slower payments from all the sites, off and on. They seem to take turns.

I agree with Lisa...one guy going on vacation so payments don't get made sounds lame to me. But then I see crap like this going on at a lot of companies (the one I work for full time included) and I just don't see how they stay in business.

Welcome to the USA, the new third world country.

Uh oh...you got me started on a rant.  :o

Pretty big dip for me here as well, but then I knew when they changed the best match a few weeks back that it was most likely to happen.
