Testing it right now and I think the final product is going to be pretty good..

- one thing many of you are going to love is that this works with any theme :) you can have your site look exactly the way you like..

- licenses are a lot less complicated as well..

- there are shipping settings as well as a dedicated tab for taxes..

- download expiration is there too (you can set a time limit or a max number a file can be downloaded)

hey leo,

how much time do you need from testers?

I have got a testing domain and can easily install it there.. the only issue is I am a little too busy right now..

PhotoDune / Re: Envato Photodune: what's the skinny?

I agree with most of the things mentioned..

I should just add that on the contrary to what OP said, their audio business is not what made them.. they are all about themeforest..

that is their goldmine.. without themeforest, they wouldn't be nearly as big..

do they seriously think we are going to waste our time for this  :D

it is not "stealing" maybe, but paypal's exchange rates are pretty bad to be honest..

Nice work dude. I agree, more talking and moving the outro to the beginning and make it your intro.

Thanks Ron! I will have to do that now  :)

84
Wow, it's so much work with one graphic project! I'm not sure if I had so much patience ;) And your work is great! Good luck with your conpcept, keep it going and never give up, I believe it will work well for you... I've tried something similar with my photos, making slideshows for YT. I got to many people and focused their attention, I've found clients this way and can tell you it works :)

Thanks..

about the part I bolded: not every drawing takes this long.. there are very big sellers in my port that I created in 10-15 minutes (no time lapse) :)

this took longer because it's a little shinier and I hadn't drawn anything for a while, so felt a bit rusty.. plus the recording software was a new thing to deal with.. some parts of the drawing process are missing, even though I thought I recorded it  ;D you have to remember to press that "record" button.. it sounds simple but mistakes do happen when you are not used to it..

the reason I had the montage at the end, was that I didn't want to bore the audience with my website ad right away :) it's a bit too long (30 seconds) and youtube suggests to keep the intros short, so people don't go away..

There's a lot of good stuff there, but for me (a sometime illustrator who doesn't do logos) the montage is actually a reason to keep watching - it shows some very eye-catching items that says to me "this person knows what he's doing and it's worth sticking around for the tutorial".

I'd strongly suggest that you put the montage up front. I agree that you could speed it up a little for the intro without losing anything from the impact.

I didn't actually find it to be as much a tutorial as watching you work. There were some useful hints here and there but not enough talking. Whatching the shapes be tweaked could be shortened a lot - it doesn't help me much unless it goes with some commentary to point out something helpful. Your work is lovely and more talk over a shorter video would be a big winner, IMO.

Hello Jo Ann,

Thanks for the feedback.. bolded part made me think about it more..

Shelma, elvinstar and now you.. already 3 feedbacks mentioning the same thing.. I will have to do something about it..  :D

the rest of your post is also very helpful.. Thanks again!

Great job! I liked the video and subscribed (I'm nosheep on YouTube) to your channel.

I would like to see some more basic tutorials as well. For example, you say that you can refine your curves and lines. That would be a great topic for another tutorial.

While I understand that you want to keep your intro short, a cut-down version of the end montage wouldn't be out of place at the beginning.

Love the icon and keep up the great work!!

Thanks for the sub and valuable feedback..  ;)

I have some more icon drawings lined up.. your suggestion definitely sounds good and I will try and do a tutorial about that at some point.. (hopefully soon..)

current intro is an extremely cut-down version of the end montage.. I prepared the ending montage first and just took the final bit and placed it to the start of the video.. I will see what I can do about it.. If I can keep it below 20 seconds, that could be acceptable..

Thanks again..

nice tutorial! I must say i really like your logo with the CID creating that box. best of luck on your sales from your site.

thanks..  ;)

Nice job! Interesting to see how someone else works. Some suggestions from someone who creates commercials for a living:

Move the montage of your icons and your website URL from the end to the beginning. End with your website URL right after the tutorial is over. I thought the video had ended there until I looked at the time bar. You might want to incorporate a screenshot of your site.

More explanation, less music. For example, why radial gradients? (3d, light source, etc.) why the colors you chose? Any filler info about good icon design? (simplicity, strong shapes, etc.)

Turn the music down. It gets really loud when you stop talking. Is that because it's free thru YouTube so you can't control volume? If so, you may want to license one piece of stock music to use in all videos so you have volume control.

At the end, Suggest people visit your site for more icon design and to license your icons!

Best of luck...I hope this brings a lot of traffic.

Thanks for the feedback.. so many things that I missed..

music is from youtube audio library, but I could have turned it down.. I will try to optimize that next time..

I will probably try and improve on all things you mentioned..

the reason I had the montage at the end, was that I didn't want to bore the audience with my website ad right away :) it's a bit too long (30 seconds) and youtube suggests to keep the intros short, so people don't go away..

I had trouble drawing while trying to record the screen at the same time.. I need to get used to it.. that should naturally improve if I continue doing it I guess..

Thanks again!

I am not sure if it's a good decision.. Time will tell.. I have still got a lot to learn..

Anybody who has done this already? Would love to hear your experience..

Also, any feedback would be appreciated.. I have probably made some mistakes and it could have been better.. I will be glad to hear any criticism, so I can improve..

I am planning to do a video for every single work I do from now on.. I may fail on this since it's easier said than done..

« on: February 02, 2015, 08:55 »
fotolia must be giving some contributors better search placement or some other kind of special treatment..

What makes you think other agencies don't do that? It's all about special treatments in stock.
Always amazes me that contributors that have been at this for many years still have no clue how this business works.

When fotolia, - a supposedly big 4 site -,  makes half the amount of bigstock, canstock and envato; and is on par with the likes of yay, gl, veer etc. you know something is not right.. I make regular monthly payouts even on low earners and bottom feeders.. when you have as much data as I do, it is pretty easy to spot that something is weird.. poll results are very accurate for me except fotolia..

So with all this "data" you have you werent able to find out that FT is big in EUROPE and not the US? Fotolia is the No.2 agency for most european contributers.

"Local" images get a better search placement. If a european buyers searches for "money" he wants to see and not $ images. Thats the same at pretty much every agency. There is no need for conspiracy theories about "special treatments".

a "great post" full of unsupported assumptions..

1- I am not a US person
2- I don't have localized content.. If anything, I probably have "one of the most universal" ports around.. if I do have some local content, it is european..
3- My US sales on Shutterstock (for example) are less than 1/3 of my total SS sales.. most sales come from Europe and other parts of the world..
4- also, I have enough sales on my personal "sites" to clearly see that my sales are universal, not local.. the same image gets about the same attention on all parts of the world..

if anything, your post totally supports my opinion.. fotolia is the only agency that delivers strange results..

you are bound to think like me when you are making regular monthly payouts on low earners and fotolia is hardly on par with those smaller players.. surely it's not the content.. bad content doesn't make monthly payouts on low earners..

I may be wrong about "special treatment and placement" but there must be a logical explanation and yours is not a good one in this case..

otherwise, I don`t see how it is even remotely possible for fotolia to out-perform Shutterstock..

I make more in a weekday on Shutterstock than what I make on fotolia in a month..

fotolia is one of my worst earners, I wouldn't even notice if it goes down..

it's either;
- a vector specific case
or;
- I was too late to join, that I couldn't reach emerald before the thresholds were increased..

whatever it is, this thread is as puzzling for me as they get..

It was 175+ and about 290K images before the guy who started the project walked away.

True, he did walk away.. but a few weeks ago, he announced that he is back..

Community forum is up again: http://www.symbiostock.org/community/

Last I heard, Leo was working on an improved "paid" version..

Looking at it from a symbiostocker's perspective,  I can see at some point paypal starting a service to handle VAT on sellers' behalf..

That would be a smart move for them..

Illustration - General / Re: New DeviantArt Site
« on: December 09, 2014, 17:12 »
I like to go there for inspiration but talk about low commercial value. Way to many dragons, super heroes, and manga. There are a few stud illustrators there. I mean really good. I think those guys use it to generate custom work or sell their books. I bet it works for them too. Mostly though it looks like students who will spend months on a single project. I will admit there are some really nice illustrations though. It's a fun site to visit but I would never upload there. Copyright infringement and theft have to be rampant there. Just look at the amount of Disney and Marvel knockoff images.

totally agree.. would never upload my work there..

too many responses for too little information..

the OP could post his images here and we can see if there is a copyright violation, which I think is the reason for him being banned..

this issue has nothing to do with exclusivity.. as Sean said, IS is not that smart to spot 10 images out of millions on shutterstock..

there are less and less PP sales every month! This is getting ridiculous.. How can it diminish so quickly like this?
