It just gives me a warm fuzzy feeling to see that their specialized medical content has taken a small hit with my departure.  Before yesterday if you searched for something specific like "arterial blood gas" you would have had about 10 choices.  Now they have exactly 2.  We're not quite as expendable as they would have us believe.  ;D

77
If you look here, DPC says they have 34 million images:

https://www.dollarphotoclub.com/Member/SignIn

But when you look at their FAQ, it says they have 26 million images:

https://www.dollarphotoclub.com/Info/FAQ

Lots of inconsistencies, but it's scary that they already have 26-34 million images.  I wish more people would opt out and destroy this perversion of microstock.

Fotolia currently has 39 million images.

They have 900 less as of today.  I left them the first photo I submitted to them back in 2005.  A photo of a butterfly....downloaded exactly once in 10 years.

78
They SAY they weren't available for purchase, but what if they were? Hundreds of thousands of images available for a day...wouldn't take too many sales for them to beef up their income, without paying you your royalty. Kind of like when the phone company charges .10 for something that can't be accounted for...10 cents on one bill isn't worth the grief of finding out what it is and getting it removed. 10 cents times the number of customers the phone co. has and voila, a cool extra million dollars.

I didnt trust Fotolia LONG before DPC and removed my images back then. I don't see how they can be trusted now.  >:(

I totally agree.  I am in the process of deleting my entire port.  They have proven that they can't be trusted and I don't have time to check up on them every day.

If you can demonstrate a link between reduced ODDs and the appearance of your portfolio on DPC it would be an important factor in determining any damages in a lawsuit.

It would be kinda hard to do that since I have no idea exactly when they took it upon themselves to ignore the op-out instructions on my profile and steal my files.  This is a new low, even for them.  They may get away with it, but I will do everything I possibly can to make sure their buyers know how callously they disregard a contract.

80
I have a pretty good idea about when they stole my files and put them back on DPC...just about the time my ODDS started dropping like a rock on SS!  I am now in the process of deleting my entire port from FT.  It appears that is the only way to protect them from these rotten b@stards!

81
All of my photos are on DPC even though I opted out.  I am collecting screenshots and will gladly participate in a class action lawsuit.  Adobe might have deeper pockets, but a new reputation for cheating artists just might be a public relations nightmare for them.

Thank You, Gel-O, for kind explanation.
HC is excellent thema.
And You must really have nice, high quality photos, because 40, 50 sold every day with so small portfolio is simply WOW.
Respect.

En,
30 a day for a weekday is normal, weekends/holidays....not so much.
I think it has more to do with "nursing license/access to good medical stuff" than "nice" or "high quality".
Thanks so much for your kind comments and happy shooting.

BAHHAHAHAHAH!  Me too.  That's why I love shooting food.  It always is on time and it doesn't ask "Are the photos done yet?" or "I can't figure out how to open the link..."  Plus, you always have interesting menu items to devour after the show is over.

And if model drama is anything like Bridezilla/Momzilla drama (which I would imagine it to be close), then I will avoid it, even if my earnings go to ZERO. "You've had 2 days, where are my pics?".  "ONLY 2000 photos?  I KNOW you took more than that!"  "Thanks for setting up the shot, but we'll go with Uncle Fred's Coolpix photo".
I could go on....actually I'm feeling a bit better about stock photography now...Thanks.

Anyway, You have high number of sales, congratulations.
Can You tell us, how big is Your portfolio?
Do You have videos, too?
BTW, my photo sales are miserable this month, as well.
Thx God, I have videos, they bring me cca 23$ each.
Better would be on P5...  :)

En,
Thanks, but high sales don't always equal high $$.  Anyway, I thought that 30-40 downloads a day is kinda on the low end of the spectrum? I hate subs.
My port at SS is 1192, as of today.
No videos.
At the risk of revealing my identity, I'm a retired nurse and I do healthcare photos.  Nothing but HC related stuff, and nary a people shot to be found.  I'm too old to deal with model drama.

I think we're starting to see the end of anyone being able to make a reasonable return on just photos, so you probably have a good idea with going in the video direction.

14 more subs today and still no SODs.  If this continues, then I am done.  I simply can't justify the effort for 38 cents.

47 downloads today and not even one ODD or SOD (except the 38 cent ones).  How do you stay motivated to produce new content?  So depressing. :(

Now the summary page is back down to 38.  Never seen it go backwards before.

Great, now it looks like sales reporting is messed up too.  My daily summary page says 40 sales today, but there are only 34 on the daily report.  You'd think that they could take some of those millions they make off of us to fix these problems.  Just speaks loud and clear as to where WE are on the SS totem pole.   >:(

37 photos sold today on SS, and only TWO of them SODs.   >:(

I've increased my port by 50% in the last 3-4 months, and the only result is more and more subs every day.

"If I can just get that 500 files on SS, I'll be making decent money".  "Ok, 800 should do it".  "Surely by the time I get 1000".....

Reality is starting to set in for me and it bites.

I've increased my portfolio by about 50% in the past 4 months.  My sales are up, but my SODs and DODs are decreasing, so my income is actually going down.  I added up how many subs I would need per day just to get a decent 2nd income without the SODs.  It is depressing, to say the least.

Pond5 is slow for me too.

Does anyone feel it takes longer to get the pending clips reviewed?

I don't do video. but I've had 106 photos sitting there since Dec 21, "pending review".    :o

If you don't want to shoot people, that is your choice, but your post above seems a huge overreaction.  I've had some misuses and none of my models ever sued me.  I am very selective about models tho.  I don't do glamour or shoot strangers.  Only people I know and can be sure they aren't greedy.

Live in fear if you want.  My attitude, I could be hit by a taxi crossing the street, but I still cross the street if I need to.

If your models didn't sue you for misuse, then you were more fortunate than the person who started this discussion.  Do you really ever know the mind of another person and what they might do in a given situation, no matter how selective you are about choosing them?  If  the risk of shooting and selling people photos is worth the pennies that the stock agencies throw to you, then by all means go for it.  I simply made the statement that for me, it is not.  Perhaps the OP could weigh in on the question of whether people photos are worth it, seeing as he has apparently been actually hit by the aforementioned taxi.

94
This is why I don't do people stock photos and I never will.  If I had some people shots, even of friends or family members, I would be removing them from the agencies ASAP.  It's far too easy for internet photos to be stolen and misused, and in our lawsuit-happy society, even if you "win" you still lose.  It's simply not worth the potential or actual aggravation for the paltry percentages we receive.

TWO minutes.  I almost uploaded it again because I thought they "lost" it somehow.  Good thing I checked my "approved" bin first.

« on: December 11, 2014, 13:03 »
I got a 13 cent credit sale today.  I really try to support sites that treat us somewhat fairly.  But here lately all I get are those crappy subs and only one or two of those a day. Now even the credit sales are starting to be crap. I'm thinking about putting DT in the mothball category where I only check my numbers about once a month to see if I am due for a payout.

97
OK, I get it.  They are just selling an overpriced "extended warranty" to go with "the product".  The buyer doesn't really get any extra rights to use the photo.

98
I get "extended legal guarantee".  What the heck is this?  I am starting to hate IS more every day.  I'll go check it out.
Thanks, Michael

Tell me they haven't stooped this low.  But it appears that they have done just that.

I sent in a support ticket and am patiently holding my breath waiting for a reply.

Shutterstock.com / SS non-sub sales and exclusivity
« on: November 09, 2014, 13:18 »
With all the shenanigans being pulled by a few of the agencies recently, I am seriously considering stopping my uploads of new files to everyone except SS.  I would hope  ??? that my non-sub sales on SS would increase if they weren't available everywhere else, but maybe not.  If anyone else cares to crunch a few numbers and participate in an informal poll, it might give us all some insight on the implications of dropping a few of those shadier outfits. I don't think we would be violating any TOS with SS, since we're only talking percentages, not actual numbers.  Someone please correct me, if I'm wrong.

Here are my percentages for August, September, and October combined:
56% of my earnings came from subs,
44% from non-sub sales,
and I actively submit to 6 different agencies.  :o

Thanks everyone!
