The 20th came early... I just requested my contract!  8)

How about re-shooting difficult setups or unique but previously covered themes with a better (significantly higher quality) camera? Would these photos be acceptable to Getty even if the "test versions" are on IS already? Are pictures that get rejected by Getty automatically added to the IS submission queue?

Just being curious - and waiting for tomorrow.

Really small scale in my case: sole proprietor.

So if I understand this invitation correctly. Getty will use my existing portfolio - the duds and marginal work included - to decide if I can provide them with new shots that are not at Istock.Am I assuming correctly that this invitation still does not get me into editorial RM with Getty (non model or property released location/news/product shots)?

I just can not find what sort of pictures Getty expects.

Thanks

The easiest is to click on your name, than on the portfolio link on the right and make sure Best match sorting is selected. The question is: Do you have any images that have less than 10views/dl. If not do not worry about it because it just means that your images are flying below the penalty threshold.

I think it also would be helpful to have similar files in your portfolio - that could compensate for the hit that the popular file gets. Diversification is the name of the game at IS.

The LAST PICTURE of my portfolio has 16 DLs and 118 views. QED. Of course now it will neither be seen nor downloaded. These f****** idiots at IS. Note to self: Do not upload highly specialized pictures that target a tiny market because if they fit too well they get KILLED. Morons.

... opprobrium  ...

I get the meaning, but I still have a hard time using this word properly in a sentence even after wikiing it. I can only imagine how much the IS vocabulary likes your keywords - if they understand them. Thanks

my best file has a 7:1 view to dl ratio and got moved from 1st to page 22 of my portfolio. Obviously you can imagine what happened DL wise. Why they - the idiot powers that are - do this is beyond my comprehension? The only thing saving my performance is the high diversity of my portfolio. I got no signature style.

I wonder if some of the high performing images that were uploaded when the IS contributor was non-exclusive get some kind of flag and images uploaded while exclusive get preference. My all time best image currently at 7 views/DL which I believe is VERY good at IS had 3 DLs in October after consistently getting >15DL/month. Now it is buried on page 22 of my 26 pages amongst 0 DL files. IT DOES NOT MAKE SENSE. It used to be on page 1 when searching for "robot" and now I can't even find it anymore. BTW - I am silver exclusive. Fortunately my portfolio is so diverse that I am still making BMEs every month. The trick is keeping very diverse uploads coming during times when business is active - slow down uploads over the summer and longer holiday periods - and always submit as the images are processed - spread over the whole week so that your images are seen by as many reviewers as possible. You do not want all your images be seen by one reviewer because if he does not like the first couple he probably will look bad on the rest of the batch.

I read it also that statement. And you don't have to worry about it. All professional video cameras are used with manual focusing. There is no professional or semi-professional camera with auto focusing (ok, there is a few exceptions). This camera is intended to be first professional DSMC camera so autofocusing is not needed in video production.
My concerns goes to exposure compensation because in movie mode you can't change ISO. I hope that compensation is good enough to cover all light situations.

I probably will require AF for the project I have in mind and I will not be able to hire a focus puller so AF better be up to snuff. and how do you focus smoothly without shaking the SLR camera - even on a tripod. Anybody know a technical solution to add a handle/extention to the focussing ring of the lens for smooth manual focus?

Manual says on page 123:

"Autofocussing during movie shooting is not recommended, since it may throw the focus momentarily way off or change the exposure".

The sample videos looked like the camera is capable of following focus on a moving object - so hopefully this is only an extreme case scenario.

What if the item we want to purchase (5DMkII hint hint) is not in stock in time for the deal?

Have found out the answer to this...

Your purchase is locked in at the time you go through the checkout so even if the item is back ordered you will still receive the discount.

But I already went through the checkout?? My CC will be charged the momemnt the item is shipped, so I do not see how the discount can be applied?

Adorama does not charge an early adopter premium as far as I am aware

Adorama and every other retailer does not set the retail price. The manufacturer does. It is up to the retailer whether they choose to charge the full retail or not. However, the early advertising is paid for by CANON, and they will not pay for anything unless the advertising features the FULL recommended retail price.

They may also have some rules on retailers about offering DEALS for a period of time.

However (once again) Adorama could easily create a coupon system for a particular group of buyers, like this forum, that offers deals. While they may not be able to legally offer a reduction in price because of their agreement with Canon, they can offer "incentives" such as buy this thing and your next thing will only cost x.

... I think we are talking about the same thing.

I am telling you guys - the only way we get a deal is on some higher profit margin items because the 5DMkII is certainly not one of them.

Don't know where you got this information, but it is 180 degrees from accurate. New stuff, any new stuff is where the retailers make their margins. They catch the early adapters. If it wasn't for new stuff, or Christmas, most retailers would not be in business.

That might be true for other average electronics, but if  - as I personally anticipate - the item is a HOT COMMODITY there is no incentive to lower the price until the item actually stays on the shelf. Adorama  sells it exactly for Canon's MSRP and canon products are not known to venture much below these prices anywhere unless you have an unrestricted DELL coupon or similar. Canon makes their main profits with lenses and later in the product cycle of cameras. Adorama does not charge an early adopter premium as far as I am aware - and I bought one of the first Rebel XTs from them and the price did not drop until Canon dropped the price.
Just my personal opinion.

Item number is ICA5DM2 and I have to agree it's not there anymore???

I would appreciate a discount just as much as the next guy/gal but I am having a hard time seeing it happening on an item that is going to be in such short supply. What I can see, is a special deal on these new extra large cards (64GB or 32GB) since we will be needing them for our video adventures  8)

Wow!  The helicopter shots look a little odd, but everything else looks fine to my eye.

A little wobbly on the high detail/straight lines panning. Still getting one though.

Seriously no affiliation -
thanks Helen for chiming in - it's better to have a contact and not needing it than to be stuck standing in the rain without a peep from the company one has a problem with.
