I thought it might be a good idea to have a thread about this.

I'll start with the first one.

Maybe I'm not seeing the obvious but I can't find how to share a single image post on Twitter (not the daily automatic routine). I thought it should be an option when I "Edit" an image but I can't find it. And yes, I looked at "Screen Options" too.

77
You're right, the original images get renamed, too. I hadn't even realized that until today. I guess I need to rework my backup strategy and do a few test runs for the entire site including full size images. I'll let you know how it goes.

78
I'll try to write an article about how I do (actually how I have them done because I don't do anything anymore) my backups automatically soon.

79
My host offers cloud as well but when they screwed up my migration and didn't migrate my database I don't really trust them with clouding my backups.

Saving the backup on your host site doesn't really make sense, does it?

80
Why don't you guys just use a cloud service for backup? I have my WP site set up to do a daily backup and to save it at a cloud. Automatically and in the background. I just check it weekly if all backups went well and have been stored/transmitted.
Other than that, it's set and forget and it doesn't cost money or any of your computer ressources.
Maybe it makes sense if you would create a separate thread that contains a tutorial how to do Symbiostock/Wordpress backups using cloud storage. Might be useful for a bunch of folks.

I'm totally new to cloud services as I do not trust them, but I guess since the NSA and half of the world already knows everything about me anyway, I might as well get cloud storage as well.  :P

I might do that. Just need to find 20 minutes.

81
Here is how you can get 20GB cloud storage for free: http://picturebreeze.com/stock/photos/20gb-free-cloud-storage/ . You can actually get a lot more than that when you refer people to this service later.

But I don't even use this one. I use the free Dropbox (2GB) out of convenience. The key is that I don't back up all images. Well, I don't back them up from my website is what I mean. What I do backup are the database tables and the plugins. My images are stored at a different hard drive and a different (paid) cloud service.

82
Thanks for working on it.

I have saved a Lightroom Export preset which will do the FTP upload in the background without any additional FTP client. It doesn't get more comfortable than that.

85
I believe it had something to do with the version update.
You might want to try to activate a WP standard theme like Twenty Eleven for a few seconds, then activate Symbiostock theme and then your child theme.

86
I think I've found an issue. I'm on the latest update 2.6.1.

The "Excerpt" (fed by IPTC image caption) is gone in "Edit Image".

Before that Yoast would read out the text from the excerpt and would automatically fill it into the meta description field. Not anymore. Now you have to fill your meta description manually.

Finally the "Royalty Free Images" seems to be gone, too. The new term is "Stock Images". Thanks for that.

COMMUNITY

I'd absolutely prefer Symbiostock having its own platform while moving away from "microstock" or any other known stock standard. Symbiostock is and should stay whatever the artist makes of it. And let's face it, when "microstock" stands for volume sales at peanut earnings (per sale) - most Symbiostock sites don't fit in anymore anyway.
Let's give Symbiostock an aura of independence, freedom and individual responsibility.
I'm sure this will attract many more people who don't like the principles of microstock (anymore).

Array issue solve :D

Onto the next.

Does that mean the premium plugin has been updated?

I'm ready to purchase but I'm not in a hurry. I'd rather install the updated product instead of one that needs to be updated after installation.

89

Can somebody please tell me whether or not it's safe to upgrade to 2.6???  For now, I'm sitting tight with what was working for me before.

I just updated a few minutes ago and didn't notice any changes. All my customization is still there and working.

90
Can't confirm that.
I just updated from 2.5.6 to 2.6.0 and everything seems to be fine. Have not purchased the premium plugin yet.

Symbiostock - SEO & Marketing / Re: Offering Free Images
« on: August 27, 2013, 16:59 »
Are you sure you want to attract people who are looking for free images?

It's worked well for the stock companies. The old StockXpert was built largely on traffic from their free site. Bring in the buyers for a free image, and many will stay and buy stuff.

What I meant is that from "free image" searches you'll probably get a lot more people willing to steal your images instead of buying any.

92
This is an upgrade. The base theme (also upgraded) continues to be free.

So are you saying that the base Symbiostock theme can be upgraded for free to 2.60?

If so, where can we find the download?

Thanks for the comments.

The 2.6.0 theme should be prompting you that an upgrade is ready in your theme area. If its not let me know.

I swear I saw the 2.6 update this morning when I logged into my WP admin area but now it's not there anymore.

93
Is it necessary to upload a new site map after uploading new images?

No, it's not.
When you want to have your new image page crawled quickly then use Google Fetch with the URL of your new page. But you don't have to. Sooner or later Google will follow your sitemap links.

I am new in this forum (Hello all!) and quite new to the industry of micro stock - lucky to have sold a few mainly on Shutterstock since June with a tiny portfolio of 150 images with mostly landscape and nature images.

The Symbiostock project I find so interesting that I wanted to try. I downloaded and installed the theme and child. Followed along the instructions and searched around the forum to advance in the process and most things worked logically.

Then I got stuck with a problem when I tried to upload the first trial image - the image uploaded but didn't exist anywhere from within. I had to give up at that point. Too much work and learning curve and too little time for now.

I'm keeping an eye on the progress though ;)

You should have just asked for help/advice instead of giving up. That's what this forum is for.

A designated app is supposed to make browsing, viewing (and hopefully purchasing) easier and more comfortable than using the browser on your phone.

In addition to that, imagine people have this designated app (including icon) on the screen of their phone. It's like a constant reminder to use it regularly. Best advertisement ever.
Not to mention the publicity and the attention the app gets when it hits the Apple App Store. That should give a good boost not only in regards to sales but also to getting new contributors.

If I had an iphone I would vote yes then :D

Wrong! You should vote YES regardless if you have an iPhone or not.  8)
Because you'll benefit from it no matter if you use it. Others will.

96
An App would be a great way of publicising the network but I can already search just using my (android) phone and tablet, I think I am missing something here ?    I did not vote as am not sure of the reason for needing an app other than advertising ?

Congrats! Nice work.

Symbiostock - General / Re: enhanced/extended
« on: August 27, 2013, 10:03 »
I'm offering a "one-project-use" only and print runs up to 100K, too. And of course I try to avoid the term Royalty Free completely.
However, my (and probably other's) understanding of the nature of "Royalty Free" is "No Restrictions". Hence my question what you meant by "enhanced/extended" license. Why would anybody buy a more expensive e/e license when he can get the image as RF a lot cheaper?

How much should we charge for enhanced/extended license? Leo's plugin gives us price slots for all of the sizes.

How much would you charge for a small up to large?

Kind regards
Mark

What do you mean by "enhanced/extended" license? Isn't RF already as extended as it can get?

100
Absolutely! I think it's a great idea, especially when users can actually buy from their iPhone. I would offer it in a heartbeat to the visitors of my site.
