General - Stock Video / Pond5 Collection Leaving Adobe Stock
« on: June 29, 2022, 15:48 »
This is good and as expected.  But what's next?  Maybe Pond5 clips appearing on Shutterstock instead.  Will they be available for Shutterstock video subs?  I hope not.  At least exclude Pond5 exclusive clips from Shutterstock video sub and make Pond5 exclusive clips for non subscription only, I hope.

752
But is it certain that video is safe on pond5? Now that they are owned by Shutterstock I am expecting every day to see the Shutterstock royalty scheme implemented on pond5.

Future is bright on Pond5.  Just because Pond5 CEO Tom Crary said so.  I kinda believe him.  Cautiously optimistic.

753
I started to deleate my favorite clips from adobe so may be they have more chance to sell on Pond
I already stopped uploading new videos there but i still load photos though

I see photo sales have gone up this year on Adobe Stock.  So, photos are good there.

754
Good to see you post again and I know you have a lot of experience with video for MS so good to hear your views.

Thank you!!

I'm waiting for all the haters to come comment ridiculing me as usual though.  lol

755
It's sad.  On some days, 80% of video sales are cheap subs.  Sales are down 30-40% on Adobe Stock for the last few months while Pond5 sales didn't go down.  They did this to compete with Shutterstock's video sub, but I wonder if Adobe Stock benefited from this cheap video subs at all.  If we aren't making more money, they must not be making more money.  I think they are making less money because of video subs just like we (at least I) are.  I've been moving Pond5 regular account bestsellers that didn't sell well on Adobe Stock to my Pond5 exclusive account after deleting those clips from Adobe Stock.  I think this experiment has failed for both contributors and Adobe Stock.  I hope they'll make a change.  They should limit video subs to clips that opted in to subs/(membership) like Pond5 is doing.  That's the right way to do this to save this industry.  Otherwise, there will be far less clips in the future especially from top tier economy countries where creators can't afford to do this anymore.  Some top creators in the US and UK have stopped creating new clips (Hotelfoxtrot, AilaImages, VIAFilms, Spotmatik etc).  It doesn't make economical sense anymore in high cost countries.  Only the top creators in much lower cost Eastern European countries and some other areas can afford to commit to doing this these days.  We all lose with this "Race to the bottom" trend.  Somebody got to reverse this nonsense.  My future plan may be to have all my best selling commercial clips and all editorial clips on Pond5 exclusive, 2nd rate commercial clips on Pond5 regular account and Adobe Stock if this trend continues or get worse.  I got to adjust to this situation and do what's best for myself.  Too many stock agencies don't care about livelihoods of the stock video creators.  They only care about giving out our creations cheap in the name of competing with cheap and low quality stock sites like Storyblocks and others.  That's how this industry will die, by killing top creators' livelihoods while pretending to be all for creators.

That wasn't a house project but you two can go on in your imaginary dream make up world. The answer was on SS forums unless you are banned there. Eighth-Wonder is not a in-house contributor test account.

Most people especially those who are busy shooting, uploading and making money didn't waste time on Shutterstock forum btw.  I posted there for very short time for a few months before I stopped wasting my time engaging with majority trash talkers.
Thanks for reminding me
All those nobody stock contributors hate me.  LOL!!  Whatever.
They got nothing better than ridiculing people.  Useless posters.
They've never started a meaningful thread/conversation.  All they do is to come in and ridicule people.  And then I strike back, they get upset like a little punk.  LMAO!!  Weak.
OK, I "Ignore"d all the garbage posters on this forum now.  Maybe they are the same people I ignore on Shutterstock forum but different username.  lol  I just hope they ignore me as well and stop stalking me like obsessed wackos.
Seems you have problems with many others and no respect.

I only have problems and have no respect for those I described in my quotes you just posted.  You get what you throw at me.  I don't turn the other cheek.

If "Eighth Wonder" was in-house or not, Shutterstock strangely pushed "Eighth Wonder"s content above all other contributors' videos, but failed big time.  I checked "Eighth Wonder"'s portfolio sorted by "Top Videos", but I only see first 20 clips that I think are decent sellers out of nearly 5,000 clips Shutterstock pushed/marketed so hard for many months.  So, it is a mystery why Shutterstock pushed "Eighth Wonder"'s videos at the time.

I think Shutterstock realized it's not worth spending a lot of money for production and end up with not much revenue.  Sounds familiar.  Now they know it's better to let contributors take financial risk of spending money for production of stock videos.

Remember the contributor "Eighth Wonder" on Shutterstock?

https://www.shutterstock.com/g/Eighth+Wonder/video

Everybody suspected it to be Shutterstock's in-house contributor.  Strangely, "Eighth Wonder"'s clips used to show up on top pages of keyword searches despite many of the clips seemed just weird.   Now "Eighth Wonder"'s clips aren't showing up at all at the top pages of keyword searches like it used to be a few years ago when everybody pointed out and wondered what was going on.  It has some nice aerials, but otherwise, I don't think "Eighth Wonder"'s clips have sold a lot.  It's not easy to guess what kind of clips will actually sell in this business.  Since the initial uploads, there are no additional uploads by "Eighth Wonder" for a few years it seems.  I would be very surprised if it wasn't a Shutterstock's in-house contributor project.

I'm trying to keep my stats clean, so maybe my conclusions will be uplifting for those, who keeps uploading quality content;)
Year 2019 I ended up with 500 videos in my SS portfolio. 2020 ended with 940 and now in 2021 I have 1500 videos. I can see clearly, that as my portfolio grows, my income grows equally and surprisingly - mostly on SS (despite of fact, that the same portfolio I have on Pond5 and Adobe where my average is 2 video sales/month  :o )
So with SS, despite of their new earning policy, those regular 250$-80$ sales make my additional income profitable :)

That's very nice.  I think you not only increased your contents, but figured out what sells and also improved quality of you videos.

My Shitterstock earnings dropped 17% from Jan-Nov 2019 to Jan-Nov 2020. Pond5 earnings rose 20% in same period. Adobe rose 15%.

Shitterstock earnings dropped 42% from Jan-Nov 2020 to Jan-Nov 2021. Pond5 earnings rose 8% in same period. Adobe dropped 44% (no idea why).

Haven't added to Shitterstock since they cut earnings for contributors, have only increased my clips on Pond5 and Adobe by maybe 5% in same period.

There will come a day when Shitterstock earnings become so low that it makes financial sense to become exclusive at Pond5. Will happily switch to exclusive at that point because Shitterstock is a truly reprehensible company for the way they devalue contributors and take more and more of contributor earnings.

Your sales report sounds reasonable and consistent with what I experienced before un-publishing videos on Shutterstock.  Thanks.

About a 45% drop from 2019 to 2020 and about a 20% increase from 2020 to 2021.

That's nice.  Have you added many clips this year?

5% increase in portfolio size from 2019 to 2020.  5% increase (so far) from 2020 to 2021.

Thanks for that info.  That means you are not a relative newcomer who is doubling and tripling the amount of clips every year.  That's impressive.  In my case, it seems like my contents have fallen out of their favor even before the royalty structure change and video sub introduction.  January and February of 2020 were both 30% down from the same months in 2019 on Shutterstock.  Then January and February of 2021 were only 1/3 of 2019's same months.  My yearly increase in the number of clips is probably like 10% for the last few years.

Oh, I see what you're getting at.

No, 2019 was a good year, but 2020 and 2021 aren't too far behind.

What's the percentage increase of number of clips in 2 years on Shutterstock?

Opposite for me.

People complain about the low commission sales, and while I don't like them either, I do get a good share of $300 sales that more than offset the low-end sales.

So, I'm sticking it out.  Money is money.

That's nice!!  So you're doing better on Shutterstock video now than in 2019?  Yes, occasional $300 video sales is the good thing about Shutterstock other agencies don't give us somehow.

I compared my video sales on Shutterstock between 2019 and 2020/21 after the royalty structure change and cheap video subscription introduction and found for the same month, my video sale was down to 1/3 of 2019.  My Adobe Stock sales have increased during the same time as I added new materials and my Pond5 sales increased as well because I moved all my editorial clips to exclusive account.  I unpublished my videos on Shutterstock last year in July, and then republished in November, and then unpublished again in February this year because of very low sales that may hurt sales on other sites.  Has anybody seen the same drastic decline of video sales on Shutterstock during that time?

General Stock Discussion / Re: Sensitive use complaint

This is a business.  When you sign that model release and get paid, you're supposed to know what you are getting into.  It's like an actor asking movie producer to take him out of the movie he/she appeared in.

769
All this business about evil Shutterstock is getting silly. The fact is that the supply of photos available for download has increased by a significant amount. The demand for those photos has not increased at anything approaching the magnitude of the supply increase. When supply increases faster than demand the price drops--hence the reduction in artist commissions. To the degree that some artists drop out because it isn't worth their time at the new price level, well that is simply the mirror image of Shutterstock's commission cuts.

That's how prices are discovered in the market place and how an equilibrium point is reached. It has nothing to do with greed, or the black hats versus the white hats or any of that stuff. It is just supply and demand; thing more, nothing less.

To the degree that other players think that they can attract better returns by offering higher commissions to artists, perhaps for higher quality photos and a more exclusive customer base, they will do so. That's how competitive markets work.

Joe Benning

Exactly!  If one wants to remain viable in this changing market one has to adjust to changing conditions.  Complaining about evil agencies won't increase your bottom line.  One needs to decide whether one can still compete under these conditions or cut bait.  There are ways to continue, one just needs to find them!

Shutterstock would love contributor like you!!!   You are model contributors!!  ;D

I like this guy.

"...actually it's beyond a friendship gone sour, it's a bit like oh yeah I used to friends with this guy and now he breaks into my house and takes a dump in front of my kids on Christmas Eve" LOL  ;D

His youtube videos are great!!  Funny how he describes Shutterstock!!

771
Most here are so over Shutterstock. You seem to be obsessed.

I like finding out what the management people are doing. Especially now that we see the results of their horrible decision against us last year in their finance and stock price.  I'm interested in why they do what they do even knowingly hurting us contributors there.  So, I'm not over Shutterstock at all.  It's ongoing.

772
I hope everybody is having a good Sunday!!

Nobody wants to celebrate him.  I see.  I would give him high five if I see him on a street.

774
I think his focus is on Shareholder compensation, not us.

The 'investors' are undoubtedly delirious with the coming of Stan the Man.

SSTK stock price has nearly tripled since his appointment on April 1st 2020.......who's the fool now? And with SS skimming off the top of every contributors old levels percentages from Jan 1st every year until they regain their higher levels again, how do you think that Q1 profits for the investors every year are going to look?

I don't know who the fool is now, but I feel sorry for people whose minds are trapped in thinking they have no choice but to accept Shutterstock's unfair term upon contributors.  I'm happy where I am now un-licensed from Shutterstock for the 2nd time and on its pace to the same sales total this month as last March but with only Adobe Stock and Pond5.
