There is a lot missing from the timeline.

754
So what if you're into archaeology and you get your image rejected for artifacts, how do you know if it's because of the content or the pixel problems?

755
It's hard to discuss anything over a dollar here.

Fetch, cute puppy icon.

The site is missing a lot of letters and replacing some of them with weird symbols. I guess someone didn't pay the rent.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: The post call thread
« on: March 18, 2011, 18:12 »
FWIW, I've seen (personally had) contracts where the agency claws back transactions that fail to pay or where they are required to refund a client. I had one many years ago where the agency allowed who knows what to happen in their Singapore office and the amounts clawed back were huge. And I have had contracts where the agency covered all losses and unpaid accounts. With them you got paid, end of story. So it can fall both ways. I have no idea why iStock bothered with this call though. There was no intent to do anything. I understand the need by many contributors to carry on dealing with this group of thieves I just don't understand actually liking it.

I occasionally photograph my daughter when she is at the dentist and once when she was really young being weighed on a scale at the doctors. I found you could get half decent results if you crank the ISO a bit, use a IS lens, and watch for the action to stop a bit. Usually there is some problems with conflicting light sources but you can usually find a color temp that works alright. Adding a direct on camera flash doesn't do much in this situation except Pi** off the subjects. Cameras clicking are bad enough. My experience has always been that, although friends will often help out, they often wish they hadn't. The process has to be seamless, as if you weren't there. I still use friends occasionally, but you get so much more milage and so many more usable images with models and actors. Even if it's just a TFP deal. Basic lighting isn't all that much money, even as people suggested getting the flash off camera and up at an angle but does require more set up time which is difficult to do in a working office. In my opinion what you are trying to do is pretty hard.

Another note, if that is an actual med chart in the photo, even with a good release, I would be reluctant to use such an image. I am not particularly cautious but med. charts could expose you to unnecessary grief.

Ideally you wouldn't even use a doctor, maybe his office, but even they are problematic with tons of visible logos etc. It's very hard to compete using documentary style images. I had a chance to use a dentist's office for a shoot, my friend the dentist, didn't appear in a single image, it was all models with nice new clean uniforms. Patients were models. Lots of lights. Lots of money up front with no guarantee of a return. Makes you want to stay in a day job.

General Stock Discussion / Re: How Important is Price?
« on: March 15, 2011, 09:14 »
I think that the bottom 10%(? my guess) of the client base could be sacrificed, and prices could be raised and the bottom line would still be greater than it is now. I  had a quick look at SS, my EL and on demand money usually exceed the sub money for and given period. So what if you said, the heck with subscriptions, not even raised prices, those on subs would still buy images, maybe not as many but I'll bet the bottom line would be greater than it is now.

Under the proposal of an NDA I think it fitting that no one show up. Just politely decline.

764
whats this about?! what brought it on? what are they going to discuss?

whatever it is I agree,  we'll tell 5 people what we what them to hear and they wont be be able to tell anyone else? what's the point?
I agree, what's the point? Even a very frank and open talk with everyone would be met with uncertainty and skepticism. A closed doors NDA, we'll tell you what to say meeting is a joke and further erodes iStocks reputation.

scapegoat |ˈskāpˌgōt|
noun
a person who is blamed for the wrongdoings, mistakes, or faults of others, esp. for reasons of expediency.

766
I'm not sure this was mentioned but how long would that number of files take to download. It must be days?

767
Someone should forward the URL of this thread to the folks at SS.

768
It wouldn't make too much difference to me but I see the bigger players into this for thousands. What was the nature of the fraud and what kind company doesn't take notice of such a large scale scam?

General - Stock Video / Re: Revostock
« on: March 10, 2011, 12:18 »
I totally agree. I too just finished uploading a batch of clips there and found it an easy go. The only thing I would like to see is choice of higher prices. I like  the user set price scheme though, which seems to be more of a standard away from the regular micro sites. What will make these sites a chance to work is giving them first upload of the images. Even if they only get them for a week or so before others it's still something.

Test passed although I need see slight fringing in the period and small amounts of artifacts in the smiley.

Needing the deciphering skills of code breaker seems a bit much to me too. I +1 hate the log in procedure.

Probably either Masterfile or agefotostock.

Not quite a nightmare really, certainly not on a world scale. Try not to submit soft images in the future and all should be well.

It's about trends and should be viewed as such. What influences the trends is another matter worth considering. Assuming everything is constant a declining number of hits is not good despite what sales might indicate.

General Stock Discussion / Re: RGB or sRGB, which is better
« on: March 06, 2011, 20:05 »
Technically it should be RGB but some sites don't convert to sRGB for displaying thumbs, which look a lot better. So I would go with sRGB from all. Or if you have lots of time and no life you could figure out what each site excels at and submit accordingly.
