I'm not going to engage in debate over exclusive vs indie, but I don't think you're comparing apples to apples in thinking you do better than the poll
I think that there are a ton of newbie figures in everything but the IS exclusive poll. If you filtered those out I think you'd see something very different - earnings comparable with risk spread as an indie vs less admin work and all your eggs in one basket as exclusive
Yeah, I agree. I think that is part of the bias of the poll. The lower the number of contributors, the higher the average royalties tend to be. If you turned off the 50 vote limit, then Clipartof and Stocksy would probably be at the top of the poll above Shutterstock next month. But if everybody contributed to those sites, the average would drop significantly. Just as if everybody went exclusive tomorrow, the average for exclusive earnings would go down on the poll.

Yeah, it didn't get enough votes to be listed. The number may still be high, but it needs 50 votes I believe to get a number on the charts.
So... (some) people paid for their domain name and hosting, went through all the trouble of setting up the site and then shut it down after a couple of months. It seems unlikely.
My guess is that the results aren't as good and that people don't report zero sales. But that seems strange, why do that?
I'm just reporting the facts as I know them. If you don't get 50 votes, it doesn't get listed. It could be 49 votes for all I know, and it is all Chromaco's fault.  But, I don't know why less people are voting.

I've been with BlueHost for a few years (prior to Symbiostock) and although they're not perfect, they're not bad, at least for the shared hosting. I have no experience of any higher end stuff from them.
They did have that long ish outage last year and they did change PHP versions once without notifying users, but otherwise things have been good for me.
I tend to agree. It's decent for the price. If you want more and better, then you will probably have to pay for it.

+1 on the removal of capital letters. How hard is it to fix that?
The entire uploading process is awkward. It just is. Look over here, click over there, do this pulldown, go to that page, etc.
Still unable to stop the removal of capital letters. Must be the hardest thing evah!
Yep! If this and the illustration check box get fixed, uploading will be pretty smooth. It's getting better though.

Apparently, my love has a price too. I'd be loving it a lot more if I was getting sales. I guess I'll have to work harder on it. I was hoping it was going to take less effort though.

$567 for CS6 is about 2 to 3 years of the cloud. There are some tradeoffs with both, but I definitely think it is not very good advice to recommend CS6 over the cloud. If I was a student, I'd probably buy the cloud because it is a lot easier to come up with 20 bucks a month than $500+ all at once.

Yes, but I understood them to say they are not updating the computer labs past CS6 so incoming students who are graduating in 4 years will only learn features on 4 year old Adobe software along with whatever new software they decide to promote. If the general industry moves away from Adobe over that time it's less of an issue, but I would not want to pay tuition and not learn current software that is commonly used in the industry. I see it as a disadvantage if they are not current with the tools in CC 4 years from now.
Totally agree. That sounds like a disservice to their students.

If Adobe added significant features to the CC versions the students might be at a disadvantage, but the vast majority of what's really day-to-day important in PS is not new. They add little things (so far)
There were some nice features added to Illustrator in the last update. Live Corners kind of rock.

I can understand the viewpoint of the school and the burden it places on students but aren't Adobe programs still used by a number of potential employers out there? I can't help but wonder if it will hurt the student's chances of getting hired if they graduate in 4 years and don't have knowledge of Adobe tools more recent than CS6 era products. I know if I was a student I would want to learn how to use the latest Adobe products as well as others to have on my resume.
That's why you pay your tuition. So, you can have nice computer labs to work in and relevant software to learn.

Well, it is not all agencies who squeeze commissions. SS keeps them steady and add higher paid licences as well.
Speak for yourself. I lost a quarter to a third of my revenue there when they changed the affiliate program. Not to mention that they actually run Bigstock.

As far as I know you have to add them up from the stats page (credits, subs, instant & distribution). It is kind of a pain, so if there is a magic area I'd like to know too.

The population is getting fatter while eating more and more light products. Thats a paradox.
The conclusion is evident, it is the light products that makes you fat.
And how can that be?
Some low fat products have more sugar in them to make them taste better. Counting or managing calories is still the best way to get your weight under control.

Well, you can use me as a control group. I haven't uploaded anything since 2010, and my earnings are down around 50%. I expected some drop, but I've been surprised that it continues to drop. I was also disappointed in a lack of growth in the last year (2010) that I did upload too. It's been a trend for me.

I'm not sure about the whole conspiracy theory thing, but I was wondering about why there is a cap on 10 links. I wouldn't mind having a larger link exchange page. It seems like something that would be advantageous, but maybe there was a reason for having only ten that I was missing.

That seems silly. If anything, I would guess that they have made an effort to attract photo buyers. They have had a healthy buying community for illustration for a while, but their photo buyers have always been fewer (or it seems that way from reports). I've seen this happen in reverse with other agencies. Fotolia used to be terrible for illustration, then picked up after a few years. GL started out with a focus on illustration and hasn't had photos for that long.

More power to those who can sell their images at $100 or more from a sym site, but I don't think that's going to be the norm
I guess it depends on what we are talking about. People still sell extended licenses. It's not an everyday occurrence, but there is still value in having that higher price for those that want it.
