Very useful, thanks for sharing!

Backyardsilver.com has good info on relationship between new images and sales, broken down by different agencies.

Your question is quite generic so the generic answer is that it all depends on your content.

What i mean is: say you shot an event (a city marathon or christmas event, etc.). Do you put that footage as top priority to upload as close to the event as possible?

Dunno about footage but for stills, yes I try to upload as soon after the event as possible and not at the micros. I'll put it at Alamy, REX Features, Zuma Press type breaking news editorial agencies. They'd be up for the world within minutes.

Some Xmas stuff, in my opinion, seem to make for good regular stock as it's a re-occurring event. I've stopped putting this type of seasonal stuff up as breaking news as sales can come in July (it has!).

I've just published a detailed summary of matter, from info on different threads, and included an up-to-date list of currently active thieving contributors. If anybody has any that they wish to add, I'd put them up (only the clear cut cases please):

Agree with all the above.

I've managed to select one of your images that has some potential as a stock photo. Since nobody is identifiable and no logos/property, they rightly accepted it as commercial, which means that it can be used in a variety of subjects, such as:

- Editorial on train delays, over-congestion / rush hour
- Public Sector could use it within one of their reports about transport or even something sociology related
- Some brand can use it to put their logo about shoes, trousers, bags
- Train company to use it on an ad about how excellent their service is
- Etc, I could go on all day in that it's a quite versatile image and there are even some usages of some of my images that completely baffle me.

The concept is strong but the execution was weak since there's no motion blur and you're cutting peoples' limbs off which in both literal and photographic terms is not a good idea. Nevertheless, an easy enough shot to re-shoot and you can even set up your gorilla-pod with ND filter for a long exposure for more action.

Yesterday I got in touch with him over facebook messenger. I won't post the full chat but in summary:

- "Oh sh"t, I got the files from my assistant..He said that they are genuine. It can't be possible. He is so faithful"

- "I will be in touch with after 2-4 hrs. I would like to know more about it & take proper steps." still waiting...

So that's it. To be continued...

I see there are also FB and Twitter links, so maybe a multi-pronged attack is needed!

Good idea! I can't work alone though! ;)

Since SS won't take action, sometimes you have to hit them where it hurts...which is their main business activity.

We feel their hurt.

If enough people give a one star rating...

Newbie Discussion / Re: Can image rejection be a positive thing?
« on: December 19, 2018, 17:41 »
I wish these agencies would start rejecting more for technical reasons, like in the past. By not doing so, they're doing new contributors a disservice.

764
stockxpert, Istock, Veer, 3dstudio, photodune, bigstock, 123RF

Mostly because they lowered my take beyond my threshold or threw me out or were closed.
@Brasilnut: what happened with Canva? Not enough sales? I think they take too much to review.

Their best sellers tend to be backgrounds, wallpapers type shots, which aren't my strength. I do have some (below) on there but just those small 35c sales most of the time.

I'll hold onto to them and try to capture more backgrounds and just give them what their buyers want.

"1,693,154 new stock images added this week"

1 million of which are probably similars.

766
I might be missing something but why would I buy this guy's footage instead of getting it for free from where he took them?

A buyer may not necessarily know they're available for free elsewhere.

767
Canstock. Canva and 123rf are on my "delete watch list"

He's either a genius or incredibly stupid/naive. I'm betting on the latter.

General Stock Discussion / Re: A detailed list of stock agencies
« on: December 12, 2018, 08:31 »
Nice list, it would also be good to see the traffic for each website, to get a small idea of how well they perform.

That's a good point.

I put together a list some months ago which is grossly outdated now and thought about using a rating system out of 5 stars for average return on earnings. Some will have to be estimated since I've never worked with many of them.

Would that be interesting or need something more detailed?

General Stock Discussion / Re: Alamy "good news"!
« on: December 05, 2018, 07:48 »
The problem isn't so much the 10% (or 20% however you look at it) cut, since that's still quite a bit above the industry average of around 30% and much much higher than iStock at 15% on non-exclusive. The issue is that Alamy veterans are experiencing year on year declines on average $ per download. So it's effectively a double-whammy that is being dealt to contributors. This isn't immune to Alamy though...look at earnings on SS for 10+ year contributors.

I think they could have framed their communication to contributors much better. If they need money to invest in the business, why not take out business loans, interest rates are super low in the UK.

Ted Baker staff launch petition over 'forced hugging'

What a crazy time we're living in.

So when this kind of things come up, and you happen to have a photo of people hugging in the office. Would you go back to change your keywords to 'forced hugging'? Just an idea but not sure if that's worth it.

Re-keywording would work if it's related to anything sexual + unwelcoming (or it's spammy), otherwise better to create new content.
