My sales have crawled up a donkey's rear end and died!

777
iStock is the only company I know that can take a complete gem and turn it into a turd aka Vetta

778
Every time I think iStock just might get something right Bam..Slam right between the eyes on this one. I am thinking I am the idiot now.

779
Wonderful, no wonder the best match is screwed, are these people pseudo exclusive as well like yuri? All of us know that in a court of law you have to apply the same rules to everyone in your company except for iStock which makes the ULA only one sided to benefit them. How is the collections move going to make them more $$ I only see it hurting them short term as well as long term.

780
Who the heck is clerkn-well whatever.... Is this a Getty collection dumped on iStock, I have noticed every time Getty dumps images on iStock the best match is screwed sideways. Looks good for the future as an exclusive :-)

781
Amazing Vetta Price for a crappy image - This is the new direction? This is what buyers want? This is how they love their exclusives?

Footage is a tough market but I am a one man band and have been feeding my family with stock video for over 3 years now :-). Nothing is easy but if you are willing to learn and work really hard you can do it :-)

I agree! I would cut all the staff and overhead and just go shoot what I feel like on any given day. Oh heck that is what I do :-)

New message to iStock, I will let you know the results

Hello,

Since Yuri is now exclusive and stated so himself, I have notice that he still has his "peopleimages" site up. I was wondering if I could sell my video's on my own site as I can see this is now an exclusive perk?  Thank-you

John

I like it, inspirational and I can see room to grow with the design. Push the industry hard Stocksy!! give them a good kick to reality!

787
This is completely your choice! I know the struggle you are going through but just keep pressing forward no matter what direction you choose.

788
Your quality of work is good and a lot of those images don't fit what ShutterStock is looking for. Considering the amount of time it will take you to spread out I think you would do better to focus on new content and skills which will increase your profit more then spreading out. Just my opinion here, there are a lot of iStock haters here and I understand why but I always consider the bottom line and my time involved.

789
After looking at your port and sales I think I would stay exclusive.

790
Full-time stock video producer going on 3 years. I do side video and photo jobs as well.

791
I laid out my concern on "commercial use" after Lobo asked me to explain. Go ahead and read it on the thread, we will see what happens to me :-)

Glad you can post here Sean to help us sort this mess out. Now we know why they gave you the boot! they don't want people uncovering their plots. My guess is 360 will be rolled out more and more until all are at a glorious 20%. Now can I have another survey you bunch of screw balls.

General - Top Sites / Re: Exclusive or Branch Out
« on: February 12, 2013, 15:17 »
My best guess. Since you are more aware of the other sites then I would suggest you ride this out a few more months if you can. I shoot video for iStock to feed my family so I have a lot of concern here as well. My sales have been down since mid Dec. by 50% or more. I am taking steps to drop if I am forced and there is not a recovery in the very near future. I know things are going to change fast so all the best, we are all in this together!

General Stock Discussion / Are You Afraid?
« on: February 12, 2013, 13:55 »
Sean getting booted out of iStock seems to have scared a lot of artist. I just want to encourage you to not be controlled by fear! While wisdom and prudence are important at this stage with Getty don't be afraid of your shadow. They accomplished what they wanted and everyone is waiting to see if it will back fire. Probably not in the short term but the ball is clearly in iStock's court as to how things go from here. I am sure they are reading this as well and that is fine with me. I always base my decisions with my family in mind, I don't need to get mad and scream doom to everyone I need to pay my bills. I am in the video side full-time and watching things with both eyes open. We are artist not slaves, we love stock because of the lifestyle freedom we have, don't lose sight of that. Everything changes so we have to evolve. It's ok if you stay exclusive at iStock its not a sin :-) it's ok if you don't if that is what makes you more productive and happy! We have no idea what Stocksy (shhh I said it) is really all about, my guess it will be a lot different then iStock but time will tell. I am taking a little break from posting at iStock for my own health and well being. I will probably jump back in when and if I feel the need. Sean is a friend to many of us, I don't like how things went down with him but time marches on, Sean has moved on and so must we.

Sean blew the whistle and they didn't like it, it is a huge risk to do that and I respect him for it, he has more guts then me! He paid a big price for giving us the info he did. They are making this a pissing match and are willing to bet the farm they will win.

I believe they are removing the images as well? Yes truly arrogant and nuts. I have fewer and fewer reasons to go to the iStock forums anymore.

Stocksy / Re: Bruce, Our Knight in Shining Armor? Stocksy Co-op
« on: February 10, 2013, 13:37 »
I had no intentions of leaving exclusivity, the middle of 2012 I notice a lot more Getty business practices and control. I had an increase every year until 2012. I have notice the negative vibe out of iStock especially the last six months. The negative vibe has hurt my creativity and slowed me down. I just can't afford this direction any more. I do have ALL of my good video's loaded on ShutterStock and Pond5 waiting for me to flip the switch which I plan on doing this year. If Stocksy gives you the boost you need mentally then run with it. I remember all the doom sayers when I stepped out of the medical field as a Cat Scan Technologist to shoot stock video. Well I wouldn't trade the last 3 years for anything! There is demand for our hard work so don't listen to the nay sayers. I know people who make a decent wage selling from their own site! Anything is possible if you put your mind to it. iStock has given me tools for which I am very thankful for! They are changing in ways I don't agree so I must change as well. Stocksy deserves support because of the fair pay to the artist, I may never get the chance to shoot for Stocksy but I will support it! Lets move on people, Getty dose not own us nor do they care how you might feel. Time for some sunshine and good shoots :-)
