The best method to make HDR is to take a minimum of 3 different exposures... 5 is better. Do the blending with a good program. Patrick H.
Do you use auto bracketing for multiple exposures or is it possible to adjust the exposures manually as well?

I got the same message from Flickr as an AT&T customer. I I currently have two free Flickr Pro accounts, but now that I have to pay, I will keep only one as I have thousands of pictures there. I use it for personal pictures only, not for stock. I can use the free acount for stock as I want to have examples of my stock photos there, for increased visibility. of course, everything in small sizes and watermarks.
I was really not happy with what Yahoo and AT&T did. It's really bad when they take an existing service (Flickr Pro) and not offer it anymore, for the same monthly fee.

I started in August, on IS and SS in November, and have a few dozens photos. FT was my number one with StockXpert following closely until SS came. 1. SS 2. FT 3. StockXpert
The rest have less than $10: 4. Zymmetrical 5. IS 6. DT 7. FP 8. BigStock 9. 123rf

I am very pleased with 2008, because, among other things, I started with micro in August. Since then, I had a lot of excitement and fun learning new things every day. This forum is great place to be. I can't wait to see what 2009 will bring. Looking forward to it!
Happy holidays and all the best to everyone in 2009!

I can also only say good things about their support. They have been very quick to solve the issues that came up, sometimes even interactively. I hope they will soon get behind the start up issues they have been facing. I definitely plan to keep uploading there.

It's sunny but chilly here in northern California. This morning it was down to freezing, but pretty nice right now around 14C or 57F. One day past week has been the coldest in the last 37 years. It was unusual to see ice on cars in the morning, reminds me on my days in Canada

Maybe the Zoo or the Wild Animal park? I would definitely recommend to visit the Zoo. Not sure what are the rules about taking stock pictures there. Oh yes, the Old Town is nice as well, some great margaritas and fried ice cream there too

I believe that 2mp is the smallest accepted size. I don't think that 1.5mp size would be accepted at any of the relevant sites. Do you have any that are above 2mp?

Welcome takeme0ut! Yes, SS seems to work the best in terms of sales for most people. They accept a minimum size of 4mp right now, so any new pictures you can submit there. On SS, you need to submit 10 photos first, and 7 of them need to be accepted. I would suggest of registering at SS, and then submitting 10 photos on their forum first. It's the best way to get good reviews and help form the people there who know it all. I started a couple of months ago, by registering on all relevant sites. Please check your inbox for a private message.

It has been mentioned before that the scout system isn't that good because when an image is finally accepted, it ends up way down the best match search and is unlikely to sell. I don't bother any more.
me too, better to resubmit and try again then wait for weeks to months to have to put on and then never do anything because now rated bottom of best match
I just did a search on my image that got accepted. The image was the first in the Newest First search, and it was on the 2nd page out of 8 pages of results for a best match search. This seems pretty good to me. I am not sure where new images are usually supposed to come in best match searches.

Congratulations whitechild! I am one of the lucky ones who has had an opportunity to hear your music and I know that IS gains a lot with your contributions! It's great to see when somebody's dreams come true! Cheers!

I recently had a rejection on IS because the witness signature did not match the printed name. I resubmitted the image with explanation in the description that the signature is not in Roman alphabet so it cannot match the printed name. The image was rejected again with the same reason. After a couple of phone calls, emails, and repeated MR submissions due to their server faults, my image got back to pending state for a while, and then they approved it after a couple of days. Luckily it ended well, but it was quite a hassle. It amazes me in what details they go when looking at the paperwork.

I had the same experience with rejections reasons described in detail and the problematic part of image shown to me. it certainly helps a lot!
The Scout system seems to work as well, as I had two of my rejections reversed recently after they were rejected for lack of property releases. After my explanation, both rejections were reversed. The system is a bit slow as it took a couple of weeks, but it worked.

Merry Christmas and happy holidays to everyone from San Jose, California. It's the coldest day here in years as the temperature went below freezing. dragon_fang, I know what cold is, I spent 5 cold winters in Winnipeg , still remember one morning when it was -43C not counting windchill. Now, it looks funny when a simple frost warning is all over the news here Cheers!

I also don't like the marriage between eBay and PayPal, but luckily never had problems both selling and buying stuff on eBay. It's good to know about these kinds of things happening there.

I also used Flickr so far, but they are closing their free pro account to me. I need to decide whether it is worth paying to them...

- have you had a disproportionate number of rejected photos, which can negatively affect your ranking
This is good to know. Now I am sorry that I had a few rejections because I did not submit the model release properly. The other time, I also had keywords from two different images bundled together and then two rejections because of irrelevant keywords. I also had two images shown in my portfolio that did not belong to me, but they were displaying keywords from my images. Upon contacting support, they got disabled. I hope these don't count in my rejections as well.... Perhaps the ranking dependency on rejections should be disabled for a while until all contributors get to know the site, its policies and interface, and until the site is stable enough so that these kinds of mishaps don't happen... Just my two cents as I really like the site, and I think it can become quite successful. Cheers.

I had 100% rejected on my last batch too, so 90% rejection is definitely something to aspire to

I also like that they are trying to discourage keyword spamming. The three levels are enforcing division of keywords by relevance even if it is giving us a lot of work when submitting.
The first two levels of keywords are not visible "to protect photographers intellectual property". I never considered keywords of an image to be much of an intellectual property. After all, a lot of us use the keywording sites by searching similar images to ours and then "stealing" keywords from these images. Question: How does knowing of image's keywords affect photographers intellectual property, from Alamy's point of view?
I also love the feature of not displaying series of similar images from the same photographer. This helps with more diversified search results and can certainly help photographers with smaller portfolios to be more visible.

I just had my first sale there. I recently repriced all my photos to $5 with resizing allowed. Today I sold an image that I just uploaded a few hours ago.

We can adopt CutCaster as the new agency of happy contributors. Seriously, I hope CutCaster succeeds because of a different business model and John's attitude.

Very good information indeed. It will help me to try to get it right from the beginning. Thank you!
