Shutterstock's goal is to increase downloads and thus profits, and to stimulate you to upload more work; they don't care how many downloads you personally get. Whether it's 50% of the downloads for contributor A and 50% for contributor B, or 100% for A and 0% for B, the bottom line is all that counts. That means the search algorithm is not designed to work against any specific contributor, it simply doesn't care as long as the bottom line is looking good.
In a suscription based model increasing downloads does not increase their profits.

I made a whopping $11 dollars in August. That's almost as much as my first month in 2010. Those years of hard work really paid off, back to square one!

Good looking website, but indeed far too slow and because of that it's tedious to browse through your collection. The McAfee box is annoying and frankly unnecessary. The watermark is too visible, you should lower the opacity.
I once created a personal vector site with CMS Account too, but I didn't do anything about marketing so it wasn't attracting visitors. A nice looking site is not enough, make sure you promote it in any way you can.

So I can pass on my code (not redeemed) to someone else?
You know, it is not really that hard to read the Abobe official docs on this promotion. And they say, very explicitly that the offer is not transferrable or salable...
The FAQ says: "In some cases, you may want to consider waiting until your existing membership expires or gifting your plan to a friend or family member. " So it IS possible to gift a code to someone.

Normally I create my artwork on a 5000x5000 px canvas, but that's mostly just graphical elements and not landscape illustrations. Personally I'd go for a 16:9 aspect ratio, then it could also be integrated into (HD) video as well.

On the contrary, after 6 months of relative silence, I've had an upswing in downloads these past 2 weeks.

Do you know if illustrations sell much on Alamy?
No, I don't know. Sorry, I should have mentioned I am new at Alamy, started uploading photos and illustrations month ago. I haven't sold anything yet.
Alamy is a very long haul. I don't know anyone who sells illustrations there: their forums seem to have exclusively photographers posting - but that is a tiny proportion of their suppliers, I wondered if you had inside info.
I sell illustrations on Alamy (vectors mostly, as RF) but I don't have a lot of sales. One of the bottom agencies for me.

In the meantime, Istock collection size and scope is diminishing every day against their competitors.

In any case it still surprises me that non exclusives supply to an agency that gives a 15% (photo) 20%(video) back to contributors when there are much better alternatives. Definitely many creative people are not the smartest and some agencies just take advantage of it......
Its cash that counts....while it is irksome that they grab so much 15% of 1,000 is still better than 50% of 100. Its a business/ethics decision nothing to do with being "smart".
If only it was 1,000...Right now iStock performs so bad it's no better than other low-tier agencies. Which makes the decision not to waste time on them so much easier.

Who cares about IS, they're a dead horse not worth flogging. This is just the next one in their long history of missteps.

but it does look a little weird to me, and not really useful either.
I think we'll let the buyers decide that.
Who says I'm not a buyer? Besides, you're the one who's puzzled by the rejection and opened a thread about it.

I think the video getting darker looks like it's an unfinished fade out rather than a sunset. Probably no technical issues, but it does look a little weird to me, and not really useful either.

In August and July I did have a couple of $5 sales so every two or three months I reach payout. For vectors they're okay.

It's useful as an editable template, not as a rendered video file.

Thank you for the offer!
However, I already have a full Adobe Creative Cloud 1 year plan running. Can this offer be redeemed in the form of a discount for my existing plan?
In the FAQ: If you paid for the full year in advance, the year of your CC giveaway plan will start once your prepaid year is over.
Yes, but this is a Photography Plan offer, I have the full CC plan.

The month was saved by one Extended License sale, otherwise it would've been very, very bad.

I hope I won't get any sales until October (never thought I'd say something like this).

This line of "thought" is absurd conspiracy theory. If they were deviously planning both a commission cut and price raise, it would have obviously been much smarter to have done them at the same time to soften the blow of the commission cut. By doing one and then waiting 1-2 weeks, they lost portfolios, lost uploads, killed trust with their contributors, etc. Plainly NOT the best course of action from a business standpoint. What this appears to be on the surface is exactly what it was: they thought people would accept a 50% commission, since that is still tied for highest commission among major sites. But they sorely miscalculated vis a vis their low prices. When it was shown to them just how bad their thinking was by a whole lot of pissed off contributors who took the time to respond, they realized they needed to adjust, so they did.
Absurd conspiracy? Maybe. But I cannot imagine they never considered a possible backlash. The thought of angry contributors threatening to cease uploading or removing their portfolio should have crossed their mind. Business decisions aren't made over night, it's a process of careful consideration, meetings, discussions, weighing the pros and cons. If they really underestimated our reaction and suddenly decided to cushion the blow after the fact, then management is simply incompetent. I don't know what's worse: deceiving your contributors, or mismanaging your business.

Did they regain my trust completely? No. After all, they deliberately cut our commissions, broke their initial promise and tried to pass it off as a good thing. That means they are either incompetent (i.e. their business plan wasn't sound to begin with) or greedy, or both. The damage is already done and I'll never look the same at them again.
Think about it, they must have discussed different scenarios before implementing the commission cut. Did the backlash really surprise them? I find that hard to believe. Maybe this was part of their cunning masterplan; cut commissions, wait for a backlash and then proceed with new pricing to make us feel heard.
And apparently it works. Contributors are slowly accepting the new situation: SB profits, we lose money but still continue to upload. Well played SB, well played.

Only if you sell exclusively at one agency and the image is sold only once, otherwise it'll be impossible to track it down.

"..and don't believe most of the things you read on the internet."
Really? My world is shattered.
