Hey phildaint,

I think as has been said above, drop exclusivity and join the indies, no doubt. Back when I only had 500 images in my port at SS I was earning much more than 25-60 per month from SS alone. then add in many other agencies, some that work, some that don't and you'll no doubt find you are far better off.

My site http://www.microstockman.com has some more details on about 20 sites if your interested.

All the best with it, you won't regret the move  :)

SS going great, other agencies ok or slightly below average. But really will have to wait till months end to know the real story

123RF / Re: Images broken at 123rf
« on: August 08, 2012, 19:26 »
Thought you might feel lonely talking to yourself and having the whole tread on an exclusive basis, so my post just to keep you company....  ;D

Sometimes you just gotta talk to yourself, you know?!  ;D

I am left wondering how long those images were unavailable for, as I haven't sold them for a while now and were some of my better sellers on 123. At least its fixed now though I guess.

digitalexpression - I know how you feel, I am fed up with agencies ignoring contributors emails. It happens all too often

Wow, I can't believe it - it appears fixed! Will keep an eye on it longer term though.

Good to see 123rf working on an issue so quickly, nicely done .

Just got a reply from 123rf...

"Hi there,

We noticed the glitch as we got the same issue as well, our IT personnel is checking on it now.
Kindly bear with us as we are very busy at the moment and we will revert to you as soon as we get this fixed.
"

At least they've acknowledged it, and hopefully the fix will come quickly.

123RF / Images broken at 123rf
« on: August 07, 2012, 19:32 »
This is really concerning me - just did a check on some of my better selling files ("Faved" ones) and found a number of them don't even work! Sure, the thumbnail is there and it will show up in a search, but when you click on it to go into the files details it's a broken link that doesn't even associate the file with my account and says the photographer was registered in 1969! eg:

http://www.123rf.com/photo_8235053_four-electric-elements-on-a-stove-with-one-turned-on.html

The more files I checked, the more I found that are broken. Who knows how many this is affecting overall? I would suggest you guys take a look at some of yours. It's certainly not the majority, but out of about 66 "faved" files, I found 4 broken, plus in just normal files a bunch more broken ones.

I have sent emails to support, will keep you posted as I hear back. REALLY hope 123rf fixes this one QUICK!

Review taking about 1-2 weeks lately at worst, but yep, there are sales there. Infrequent, but sometimes very well paying.

Ugh, IT problems, sorry to hear Leaf. They are a real pain at times! You could borrow iStock's error page text and blame "The glitch monsters at work down in the dark internety room"  ;D

around 6 weeks for my last batch! Come on veer, that is just unacceptable.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Earnings in July 2012
« on: August 01, 2012, 22:40 »
For the 'slow' months I must say I'm very happy with July.

SS missed being a BME by only $5, thanks to 2 EL's on the last day. BME at Fotolia, 123rf, Depositphotos and YAY.

Dreamstime was down, but not hugely. It does feel like its getting slower though. IS held steady, Veer ok, BigStock terrible as usual.

Sales continue to grow each month, so if this trend continues I am really looking forward to the busy period just ahead. :)

BME, but need a few more like it to maintain 50% come 2013

PhotoDune / Re: Input Needed - How to handle Excess Tags
« on: August 01, 2012, 20:50 »
I think it's important to let the contributor choose, and helpful to have the option to automatically take the first 50.

I think if you do let the contributor choose, you need to keep the keyword count updated as items are deleted - so there's no guessing about how many more to remove.

I don't know how your search works with stems and plurals, but if you automatically find items keyworded "duck" if the searcher enters "ducks" and color/colour, painted/paint, etc. then you could really help by handling removal of redundant keywords. Shutterstock does this (they have a feedback loop where they tell you about misspellings and redundant words). That would help get the total count down if people have lots of words just to handle the variations in US/UK english and words with a common stem.

+1. Think jsnover has hit it on the head. And thanks joshsprague for actually asking us instead of just implementing something!

Mostphotos.com / Site down?

Is Mostphotos down for anyone else? Can't seem to load anything at all for hours now.

I too miss the number of dl's.
I also find it interesting that under the tab 'portfolio' there is no link to your portfolio. Though there is still a link on the landing page I just find it odd.

Just came here to say the same thing, why no portfolio link? That seems crazy!

Veer / Re: Dashboard Issues?
« on: July 25, 2012, 20:43 »
On a fast ADSL2+ connection I can wait around a minute for the dashboard page to show up most days. Sometimes longer. It's amazing how slow Veer can be. Speaking of which, still waiting on review of images submitted OVER a month ago!!

Really wish they would get some of these things together, as I quite like Veer in some respects, but these sort of issues make them difficult to deal with.

818
Speaking of GL (not Greek), my acceptance rate has been about 91% for a couple of years (1400+ images). Now they seem all of a sudden to be rejecting heaps of batches, for no reason other than "we do not need this image.".

Anyone else finding the same weirdness?

Adobe Stock / Re: Fotolia Gotcha
« on: July 20, 2012, 22:40 »
I now get a Form Error when I try to submit. Plus my defaults are back to exclusive file, and ok for free section. What on earth Fotolia?!  :(

820
Gave up on them long ago. Horrible reviews, terrible sales. Really struggle to believe they should even make it into the Poll Results to be honest.

821
Yep I got this too. Bit scary. But thanks to all posting in this forum (and the SS forum), it helps to put your mind at ease as to whether it was phishing or not.

Time to overhaul my passwords...

822
Theres a thread on the SS forum about this. I've noticed for a few weeks now, if you sort your portfolio by most popular, and then go to the last page of your port (presumably, should be the least popular images), it's not correct, plus it changes every hour or so. Files that have never sold are above files that do, files that are brand new are below old files with 0 or 1 sale etc.

"How is everyone doing on 123RF?" - not well enough to maintain 50% by the end of the year by the looks of things.

Back with a vengeance. I've seen it twice in 20 minutes, without logging out! SO annoying.
