Symbiostock - General / Re: Can Symbio Stock do these things ?
« on: September 18, 2013, 08:12 »
If there is something very particular to yourself you need the software to do, you could also consider getting a plug-in created for you.  There is tons of really good programmers for wordpress on a site like freelancer.com or similar work for hire site.

I don't really understand your concerns. If your SYS site is doing so good that SS sales are getting hurt you'll be smiling all over and jumping up and down shouting "Yahoo!"  ;D - Just make sure your SYS licenses cost similar $ amounts like SODs on SS. Also, I think it might help to have some images exclusively on your SYS site giving buyers an excuse reason for looking there.

From what I hear it's currently mostly vector artist that are getting regular sales on their SYS sites. So give it a go, there won't be any looking back, I am sure... :D

Agreed.  If your own site starts to hurt sales on any other site - you can accomplished your task.  You'd be making 2x at least what you are making now.

My uploads to Istock are permanently 'disabled' anyway (or until they increase their pathetic royalty rates).

I stopped uploading months ago, and SS might have made a change that now favors newer images.

Yeah, I think they did a few months ago.

90 day turnaround - maybe something to do with them not having exclusivity? Or are they seeing a lot of contributors selling rights on other sites and asking for removal of their images from SS? It would be interesting to see what happens in a case whereby you sell the rights and therefore have to remove the image from all other sites. Would the 90 day turnaround with SS stop the sale?

You can disable 100 images instantly which should cover the issue of selling the rights on another site.  Or making a mistake with the image or for a number of other reasons.  If you want to disable more than 10% or your port or more than 100 images (whichever is less) you'll have to wait the 90 days.

I think the period balances out the dot on the i in the front.
perhaps also subtly tries to imply that you don't have to look any farther for what you are looking for.  istock - period.

considering they are selling video, audio, and vectors - the name istockphoto was perhaps a little dated.

Here are the people involved. Patrick was one of iStock's founders, but not sure who the Veer alumni are

Patrick was also president of North America Fotolia so he certainly has some experience under his belt.

Their page for potential contributors doesn't say

Yeah, that's why I was wondering if anyone had sent an email.  It's probably not great or else they'd be advertising it.. on the other hand [wishfulthinking] perhaps we could be pleasantly surprised [/wishfulthinking]

Interesting.  It sounds like they have reasonable backing.. at least for the short term.

Has anyone checked out what royalties they are paying?

I had started a list with links to right page on all the sites.  I don't have it on this computer though... I'll post it here soon.

It's a bit comforting that most of us are having a very bad month. But I'd rather have "every one is having BME"...

Does anyone have any clue why the sales are so bad? Summer vacations are over, the economy is slowly picking up (both in US and Europe). Of course there is the old over supply argument, but something has clearly happened after May.
I've had a slow start to September before and its picked up in the last 2 weeks of the month.  I won't tear my remaining hair out until 1st October :)

I'd agree that there are certainly some holes that can be plugged.  Especially if you start using 3 keywords the results start to get pretty thin.  I also regularly visit picniche for ideas.

I've just received the notification e-mail. Feels GOOD, I am HAPPY.

It was an image exclusive to imagoborealis:

Congrats!

Ok.. well if popular opinion wants it in two sections then so be it.
If the symbio threads die down to only a couple then there is seriously no sense in having a separate section but until then...

819
... and by the looks of things I may just merge them again.  There is only a few symbio threads active now so it would make sense to have everything together like it was

... sorry for the back and forth everyone.  I've included the symbiostock threads within the regular list again.  It is silly to have a seperate section when there is only 8 recent topics.  If it grows large again I'll consider a better solution.

820
I'm all for the separation just wish that there was an announcement somewhere about it.  I didn't see one and I'm here every day.  Can anyone point me to where that took place at?

Sorry, no there wasn't an announcement.  I just moved it after a sidetracked discussion in a Fotolia thread.

Yeah I made a bunch of wall jokes but my freedom of speech was censored and my post removed.

You post just got caught in the cross fire of the little spat... sorry.

Site Related / Re: new thread doesn't appear on MSG home
« on: September 10, 2013, 18:03 »
Sorry.  I added the new forum area but forgot to add it to the list which shows on the front page.

823
I think it has certainly helped to have the separated.  Topics that are on the front page get a lot more attention so it's nice to see general topics being seen as well.  When the front page was filled with technical and specific symbio threads it was bumping other conversations off the front page.

I think it could still be useful (as was suggested) to have the general symbio discussion in the main area but I'll leave it is now for a bit.

It also works better that there is now room for many more threads on the front page so both symbio and regular discussion can have it's place.

removed 2 posts .. stopping a little spat before it begins.

825
in my case :

DP                 1-2 days
Can stock      3-4 days
DT                  4-5 days
SS                  6-7 days ( depend on weekends )
123 RF            15 days
FT                   15-18 days ( and always i request in 1st of every month)

123RF and Shutterstock both pay reliably but you can't request a payout there so it is sort of out of the question for the OP's request.
