iStockPhoto.com / Re: PP Earnings for November have started.
« on: December 16, 2012, 18:37 »
You can't easily find them, but when I saw one day that was about $20 higher than the ones around it I went to the my_uploads page and the partner program list and then sorted my sales by $$. Looking at the ones where the download numbers (at the PP) were much lower than those around them with similar $$ amounts I went to the individual download record for that file and saw a Thinkstock sale for $26.01

I've had a variety of non-subs numbers show up. I think those for $24.02 and $26.01 must be extended licenses. The ones for $3.96 or $1.83 or $6 must be image packs.

The CSV file just shows a daily total and a number of downloads. You could use that to flag any days when the total exceeded .28 x #DLs but tracking down which files is a lot harder as you can't sort the partner program list by sale date.
Thanks.  Sounds complicated :D

My PP sales for Nov. are updated to the 15th and are now twice my Dec. earnings at iS (and I am still missing 80 images not mirrored on the PP sites).  Dec. iS earnings are pathetic so far, on track to be only about 25% of what my Nov. earnings were so it wasn't all that hard to surpass my iS earnings.

Also seeing updates thru 15th.  Unlike last month, all are 28 cent sales.  Still a few days to get credit sales.
My port is very small at iS but most have been transferred (mirrored).
Where do you see the individual sales?

Surprising that PP can sell this much. The last three months have been really good.
What's surprising about it?  That's like saying that it's surprising that SS sell so much.

You should have an option 1000+.  My 7day ranking has just started to creep above that magical mark... :-\. Used to be between 25-60.
Same story here.  29 was my highest weekly position and I am now over 1000th place.
Would be really interesting to know how many emeralds there are.

If everyone saw their sales drop when they reached the emerald level, they wouldn't go down in the rankings.  Emeralds here have said that they have fallen in the rankings, so they're being replaced by other emeralds that I presume are doing better.  So I'm still not convinced by the emerald drop theory.

I'm sure someone from FT will come here and explain it all to us :)

LOL!  I'm not holding my breath.

Why do you assume that the people who are passing emeralds in the WEEKLY rankings are emeralds?   My weekly ranking is the one that has plummeted in the past couple of years, not my overall ranking.  That's held fairly steady.  I think it went from 34 - 39.  But my weekly ranking is between 400-600.  That suggests it is, in fact, lower ranked people outselling me.  And LOTS of them.

I am in the top 50 or better across other microstock sites.   I don't think it's exactly bragging to say that there are not 400-600 people selling better than me in microstock generally.  Just on Fotolia.

Most other emeralds report the same.  Doubt it all you want, doesn't change the reality.
Exactly, my 7 day rank is over 1000.  I doubt very much that there are 1000 emeralds.  At one time it was about 30.

I think I might cry, talk about a looming fiscal cliff.
How immoral can you get. What's more a disincentive to success then saying "sell more with us and we'll destroy you".
It's exactly the reverse of how canister levels should work.
Have they ever commented on this?
I don't think so but it happened to too many of us for it to just be a coincidence.  My earnings there are a quarter to a third what they were in the first year after turning emerald. It was like overnight the dls got turned off.  Images that had sold thousands of times virtually stopped selling at all.

« on: December 15, 2012, 04:43 »
Yes, I do this and I do it often.  I also intentionally misspell keywords - as an example Blond = Blonde
That isn't misspelling.  One is the english spelling and one is the american spelling.

Looking at all the giddy responses makes me think iStock is a cult.

So, what?  We're never allowed to respond positively to an initiative?

Sean, I am with you. We all agree iStock deserves to be criticized, however, it is not nice to wish for its demise. Indies should be sensitive to the fact that many people are still receiving meaningful income from it, including indies. Just because iStock did injustice to you, it's not fair to sink the ship with many innocent victims with it. Sometimes I find it ironic for those who complain about poor sales while trying to bring down iStock at the same time.

It would be pretty stupid of any indie to wish for Istock's demise as we would get so much more competition at the other sites if the exclusives started to give up their crowns.  I really feel for all the exclusives who's livelihoods comes from their stock earnings.

« on: December 15, 2012, 04:32 »
Thanks all, at least I should be able to get back to 50% by about February when sales get back to normal after the holidays.   I thought that I might be stuck with 45% all year.

Yes exactly the same happened with me and I believe that Lisa said the same happened to her.  I also see no drops in images selling when images hit level 4 and 5 on DT so the buyers really don't seem to mind the difference.

The customers that remain at DT & FT are clearly less price-sensitive. All the others are probably now at SS. From FT's various actions, in limiting our ability to increase prices, it seems obvious to me that they know many buyers are indeed price-concious. It goes some way to explain SS's remarkable success too.
I guess so but when I doubled all my prices at FT I almost doubled my earnings and earnt more there than I have ever made at any other site.

I wish that had happened to me!
And I wish that it had stayed that way instead of dropping to a fraction of that virtually over night due to a best match shift. !!

Using that calculator and adding on possible sales for the rest of the month I am probably going to be about 100 - 150 credits away from keeping 50% !!!
Do our commisions change at the beginning of each year and hold for a year or will they always be calculated on the previous 12 months?   I hope it's the latter as then I could soon be back to 50%.

oh poop, I might not adjust my prices when I pass the mark, maybe the search now buries more expensive files or the buyers have become more price sensitive?

Definitely not the latter.  My sales immediately doubled when I raised prices, then FT started making noise about Emeralds selling their work cheaper on other sites and they would have to do something about it.  Lo and behold, my sales started falling.   I don't think buyers decided at that particular point that my pics were too expensive and stopped buying them... my sales fell in half fairly quickly.  (And all of a sudden this week, they seemed to have cut in half yet again.)

Wow mine is about a third what it usually is!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's looking more like a normal month now.  I must have caught it as they were adding them on as there are a lot more dls for each day now.
@WarrenPrice I am seeing 5 days worth.

Pretty good.  I remember a case a few years back where a company was producing calendars without paying ELs and they chased them up and got us all paid.  There were quite a few contributers that got pay outs.

Very nice use. Congrats

I'm not a spammer in general but yes in those circumstances I would except maybe the mule. I also sometimes include well used spelling mistakes and at DT have sold images like that.

I was about to write that i wondered why I had to scroll down when my screen is wide.

LOL you will have to learn to conform or you won't have any stock site forums left where you are allowed to write :)

The most variable site for me - periods of nothing then a flurry of downloads ;)

It seem most prevalent at DT but I am noticing the same variable at most of my sites.  It seems we are divided into quadrants with the search engine randomly selecting a quadrant of the day.

I wonder if the same IT section runs all search engines?
 ???
Haha I sometimes wonder the same.  They are all conspiring to drive us crazy :D

Never heard of them and doing a search on the sort of images that I sell I didn't recognize any of the images.   Lots of  blown out images that would never get accepted anywhere that I upload to.  Would be interested to find out more about them.
