General - Stock Video / Re: MOV or MP4 files?
« on: August 18, 2023, 08:13 »
Which file format do you use for uploading video?
And wich one is the best (for sales)?
Uploading in MOV, this container usually contains more information than MP4. Especially since your camera shoots in MOV. You don't need to specifically convert to MP4.
Movavi Video Converter converts lossy video and the MP4 container compresses the information a lot.
You only need to convert to MP4 if the file size is more than 4 GB (stocks usually don't accept anymore).

Injustice for all, buy a good video camera.

SS gives me more income than AS.

Who will now receive more money - photographers or video content creators?

831
In the H.265 codec, the bitrate will be 1.5-2 times less than in the H.264 codec.

832
Ive been checking out the specs of 4096 x 2304 videos on P5 and the bitrate varies enormously. Ive seen examples of 748mbps, 205mbps, 497mbps, 697mbps, 693mbps, 782mbps, 188mbps, 170mbps, 620mbps and 133mbps. There are also a few clips that have enormously high bitrates like 1.01gbps and 1.31gbps. The vast majority of those videos are not h264.
Of course, if there is a prores codec, then the bitrate will be high, because this codec does not compress video.
Look also at the quality of the video, how it was filmed, by whom it was filmed, whether it was professionally filmed. You can focus on bitrates from professional authors.
If in doubt, load everything in the prores codec.

There is also the old JPEG codec, not many stocks accept it now, there is also a high bitrate, because this codec also does not compress the video much.

Read more general information here.

Panasonic GH6 shoots 4K at 400 Mbps. H.264 codec.

834
Thanks.

The best is 4096 by 2160, which is a recommendation from shutterstock. FPS is better than 29,97. I would set the bitrate to 200.

I would prefer 4096 x 2304 due to the 16:9 aspect ratio. The client can crop that to 4096 x 2160 if they wish or reduce it to 3840 x 2160.

I would set the bitrate to 200.

Would that be 200,000 kbps?
200 Mbps = 200,000 kbps

In this case, load 2 options at once - 4096 by 2160 and 3840 by 2160.
I don't think that many buyers want to cut something, people may need a specific format for their project.

You can make a bitrate and 400 Mbps. This is optional. You can see in what bitrate the video is currently being loaded on pond5 for example.
You can still load not only in H264, but in prores422 for example.

Is it normal that the sftp password changes all the time. I put that info in Filezilla Pro, XPIKS or Stock Submitter and when i enter those programs again connection fails . I have to go to Adobe , regenerate password and again introduce that password again in all the site I use. Really tired of it and a huge waste of time .... Is this normal behavior with Adobe stock. And if so is there a way to make that dam... password stick so i don't have to change it all the time? >:(
Upload to submit.fotolia.com.  8)

my rpd at adobe is around 8/9$...only video...shutterstock performs better,pond5 even better but less volume...

It's possible that buyers who find your clips on Pond5 then search on Adobe Stock and Shutterstock and buy much cheaper there rather than buying on Pond5.  Buyers actually shop around, just like we shop around comparing prices all the time.
I do not agree. If that were the case, buyers would buy everything on subscription stocks. It's unlimited for $16 a month.
I think many buyers need to make their projects cost more than $16.

838
On Pond5, I often have sales for $2-$4. Do exclusive authors have no such sales?

839
Photo Shelter and 500 Pix had similar things didn't they? Didn't work well.

Nimia has a pay tier that allows some perks for sales.
It is better not to contact Nimia, do not ship anything there. I uploaded part of my video there a few years ago, and a year later Nimia deleted everything, without explanation.

Everything will be OK. The stock market will remain, revenues will definitely not decrease.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Thief Account on Shutterstock
« on: July 04, 2023, 01:44 »
One of the stolen file which I uploaded to Wirestock and Getty Images. I didn't get any sales in Wirestock for that video, and 3 sales in Getty Images. So, he must be downloading those videos from Getty Images.

Those cheap video subs are dangerous too.  If you really want to preserve the value of your stock video clips, you can't sell on unlimited download sub sites or Shutterstock/AdobeStock/Getty/iStock cheap video sub sites either.  Selling for decent price only on Pond5 is the only safe way.  More popular your clips are, more thieves will flood your clips on their fake contributors account.  At the end, everybody will download your unlimited or cheap sub clips and nobody would pay any decent money for those clips.
Pond5 also sells videos at a low price. I often have sales for 2-4 dollars. ;D

These are rare limited license sells.
What does rare sale mean? And who is rare? If a thief wants to buy a lot of videos under a limited license, and the main thing for a thief is to pay as little money as possible, then he will buy videos on Pond5 as well.

Found one stolen video! And no I don't upload to unlimited download sites?
Here some constantly scold sites with unlimited downloads. But any video can be bought on the same shutterstock or adobe or iStock also by subscription, and the price will be very low. I know that shutterstock authors are paid 25 cents per video sold. Therefore, there are no stock agencies now where you can not download videos at low prices.
All sites now sell videos by subscription! All!

I've encouraged my 17 years old son to create photos using Midjourney for AS. He doesn't know anything about photography. He started uploading images to my AS account 3 months ago, here are the number of sales (remember he's novice):
April: 27 sales
May: 51 sales
June (till 9): 28 sales
He now has 1500 files online (260 under review) and he's planning to upload 500 - 1000 images per month.
I do videos mainly, but I have had around 300 images online for years, and he already exceeded my number of sales for images.

Updated numbers (really interesting experiment) ...

Congrats  ;D  8)

That's really a good start!

Looks like he found out that the idea behind the images plays a decisive role: once I realized it my sales skyrocketed (this week a single image got me $21.25 and another $26.40)
In which stock agencies do you upload AI content to?

846
Don't you need to pay commission from sales to Midjourney? I remember saw it in their licencing.

In order to "own" your output from Midjourney, you have to have a paid subscription plan - otherwise they own it. "If You are not a Paid Member, You dont own the Assets You create. Instead, Midjourney grants You a license to the Assets under the Creative Commons Noncommercial 4.0 Attribution International License (the Asset License)."

You can see the plans they offer here:

https://docs.midjourney.com/docs/plans

"If you have subscribed at any point, you are free to use your images in just about any way you want. If you are a company making more than $1,000,000 USD in gross revenue per year, you must purchase the Pro plan. For complete details please see the Terms of Service"

As noted above, I don't see anything in the terms of service about paying Midjourney, other than the subscription. They do note that if you're sued you're on your own (their words are different, but that's the gist of it)
How is the Basic Plan different from the Standard Plan? Which plan is best for us?

847
And for some reason Adobe doesn't pay me $1 for a photo. Although I have a lot of photos that adobe chose, but did not nominate.
