Neither. picmojo makes you sound like an immature 18 year old.

I am a non-ex. I leaped the limit for 19% on 27th of Dec... huh, that was close!
I am losing 1% which is a 5% cut. Since new uploads are not selling, IS has fallen back to the last position in my uploading queue. It means I do not upload there too many new images anymore. They do not care, I do not care.... status quo.

Love to see your portfolio.

There isn't much green grass anywhere to be had, never mind the other side. It's taken on the characteristic long hot summer look. Parched, brown and unappealing. At some point, you feel wronged and even if it's going to cost you, you don't care.

General Photography Discussion / Re: Adobe RGB or sRGB ??

Some sites, SS for one, displays sRGB much better that AdobeRGB. I would shoot RAW, process to Adobe RGB.TIF and do a conversion to sRGB.jpg for upload.

I'm having less rejections since I bought a new teapot.  Some kind of inverse beverage correlation going on there... clearly a trend...  ;)

Fewer artifacts in tea no doubt.

I have received a fair amount for illegal usage of images from various agencies over the years.i.e. the agency collects on my behalf.  I never get any real details, just a cheque in the mail. I've not gotten a cheque from Getty but I believe they would send it if they collected money for such a thing.

If you don't mind would you share with us which agencies did pay out any recovered money to you?

In Microstock I'm only aware of a case at Shutterstock where a company "unknowingly" used regular RF licensed images for merchandise that requires ELs. The company did eventually pay for the ELs and SS handed down the appropriate amounts to its contributors.

Who knows how often the agencies do recover any money and if they honestly hand it down to us?
I'm not sure what the legal terms are but you can sue for what is lost by way of the sale and also for damages. The damages, whatever they are called, can far exceed what was lost in unpaid goods. I can't really say which agencies I have received money for this but not micros. I don't expect much from them in this regard. But I think they could if they wanted to. I have received substantial payment for infringement on an RF image.

It's strictly coincidence. I'm getting more rejections since I started using a new espresso maker.

Just keep an eye on your downloads from IS today.  Someone is rampantly downloading large sized files at a $1 per credit price.

Yes, but isn't that what microstock is about?

Tell him Yes.. if he hires the plane / Heli and pilot and lets you keep the copyright to all the shots take for whatever use you want. See what he thinks of that.

Yes, but there would also be a creative fee on top of this. The above is just expenses. I mean that's the way it usually is.

So I get an email today from a long time friend. It reads like this:

"Weird happening just now .... I was given a link to some aerial pictures of Vancouver for a poster I am designing  - conference in May.   And who owns the pictures ??  A Peter Chigmaroff.   Gosh .... got any good ones  - that are free of course - pointing from UBC to downtown?"

So they want FREE aerial images. That area is in close proximity to YVR so would require a helicopter and lots of planning and they want free. I know they have a large budget for travel and hosting and they want free. I am boiling mad at this one.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: iStockphoto to offer "Editorial Use" license
« on: December 13, 2010, 14:56 »
It was difficult to get agencies to take editorial images in the days when you could actually make money in stock. They have low sales volume, high hassle factor associated with them. Micro seems a very poor place for such images. But of course people will jump in with them. Some Alamy sales I had last few months for editorial images, $166, $50, $328, $50, $270, $59, $177, $105, $73, $49, $165, $92, $100, $160, $200, $50, $80, $161, $205, $301 I'm sure I could make a lot more 25 cents at a time.

Frankly I don't know if any agency , RM, RF or micro has a clue as to what to do. Veer was a much respected niche RM agency. Now it's a carcass of it's former self. Trying to do a Frankenstein routine by cobbling together bits and pieces that Igor gathers.

I'd be more worried if they didn't want my work  ;D

Best,
Jonathan

Sure, but it's a perception thing. As a buyer, you know right away, that this site has a smaller selection of toasters and blenders.  Why stay?

843
I guess the accumulation of new content for these sites is important. But as a buyer I would wonder why the "sell your audio" button comes before the "buy audio" button. it shows a lack of understanding of what should be happening in my opinion.

. but it's a trade off of convenience over quality.

I see see us all with full HD video and camera options built into our contact lenses uploading continuously to our key fob mainframe.

What seems to happen is as soon as a technology is nearing the point of perfection, or at least being really good, it gets superseded. Or perhaps when a new technology is just a lot easier to use and is cheap, it drives a nail into its competition.

Unlike physics where you can predict the energy of body based on mass, velocity or height ,stock images don't have the same properties.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Another happy buyer at iStock
« on: December 02, 2010, 15:01 »
I'm not a buyer but occasionally search the site. I haven't done so for a while but do agree that any intuitive feel for searches is gone. I was surprised how hard to was just to find the advanced search function. I think the designers are usually to close to the methods to understand what a first time buyer or one who is used to a particular methodology is used to. Then a switch-a-roo happens and confusion and frustration set in.

The system is the system. If the an individual can make more money by co-oping with others and attaining higher levels of sales and profits earlier then they should. Why shouldn't they?

I don't have to be rational about it.  I can just dislike the idea.

Of course in the end, the system will be adjusted so said people will end up where they were and screwing it up for everyone else.

I suppose you are right. But consider this over the entire industry. It is the essence of Zack's blog post that comes full circle to your comments. What goes around, comes around.
