Although in most cases the economic and moral rights belong to the person who creates the work (see pg 8 ), copyright is a form of property, which, like physical property, can be sold, bought, inherited or otherwise transferred, wholly or in part. A copyright owner can do a lot with their copyright.

I don't disagree with your points.. there is a reason you pay money for the content so you should have all the economic rights..
all I am saying is that the creator does not change, but all others rights can of course be sold or transferred..
I wonder what getty calls their MonkeyBusiness collection?
edit: I guess it's Bananastock as I see on leaf's post.. so they acknowledge the original creator even though they bought it..
I'm guessing they keep that simply because people know the brand. Old buyers want bananastock images and have been customers a lont time. They'll follow the brand to the new store house.

stock portfolios are bought and sold 'all the time'. All the time in quotes as it isn't literally 'all the time' but it certainly isn't uncommon. How did Getty get so much wholey owned content?
MonkeyBusiness sold all their old content (before they started in microstock) to Getty (Bananastock) and did very well.
It's just a matter of a buyer and seller agreeing on what the port. is worth. The buyer is taking the risk of the industry going downhill and pays less for the content because of that. If it was a guaranteed income stream then it would be more like a term deposit where 30 years income is more on par. The more risk the less X-income that anyone is willing to risk.
Same deal with buying and selling websites. You'd think someone is crazy to sell a site making $2000/month but the income is pretty risk and can stop in a day if google changes things. 10-24x monthly income is pretty par for the course. Stock photos wouldn't be too different.

DepositPhotos is always very fast.. one or two days usually. Dreamstime usually in 1-4 days. Canstock is often quite quick as well.

Maybe there isnt any other discussion going on and therefor there are not more threads outside symbiostock. Are you now seriously discussing who has more slots? All your threads are now on top, Symbiostock is at the bottom. Just open more threads and you will get more slots filled.
yep, you are right. I'll reduce the number of max symbio threads on the front page a little but the reason the regular threads are so few is because there is only that many that have recent discussion in them (the last 2 days). That list will grow large again as people discuss more topics. Reducing the symbio thread count isn't a super easy process as I have how the panel works hard coded into the site. Or perhaps better stated, the number of reg. threads on the new front page not independant of the number of symbio threads. The formula now simply states all the recent threads in the last 2 days (max 40) for regular topics and the same again (last 2 days, max 40) for symbio

I'll try and figure out a solution soon.... Perhaps I'll push all the symbiostock threads to a lower part of the front page.
... done. We can try that for a bit and see how it works/feels. You can also minimize the symbiostock thread area if you want.

I have content on Corbis.
Leaf, the deal you were offered by Veer is after their take. Corbis is similar to Getty in commission percentages.
Thanks, that makes more sense if it is a third party deal but both Veer and Corbis are Corbis so there is absolutely no reason for them to third party deal to themselves... unless of course they want to hog more than their share of the money, in which case it makes perfect sense.

I was just sent a friendly email from Veer saying they are interested in moving some (or all) of my content over to Corbis. The eye popper however is that the rate for non-exclusive images would be a pitiful 10%. Really? As flattered as I am, I'm afraid that doesn't quite tempt my pocket book. Unless they sold sell thousdands of $$ of my content per day I'd be better off keeping it on Shutterstock and the rest ... and the thought of supporting an agency paying 10% doesn't suit my fancy much either.
Does anyone here have their content on Corbis? I just can't see how anyone would justify the 10%. The exclusive rate was 20% which is still crazy low.
Taking my chances with fewer sales and higher commissions at Stocksy (50%) seems like a much more sane decision.
Thoughts?

I believe it is a no no on SS.
I could email SS asking about this, I am talking about a very big contributor if not the biggest one at this moment... (no its not Yuri)
Can I open another account or share my account? Under no circumstance do we allow contributors to open more than one account, share their account with other individuals, or share content between accounts. If we find out that you have more than one account, or shared your account and content, you risk immediate and final removal from Shutterstock. back to top

There are earnings threads on Stocksy and I'd have to say I'm pleasantly surprised by what they are posting. I haven't uploaded to there much yet but I have serious plans to do so. Even at their young baby age of 6 months, sales are looking promising. That's a lot more than about 30 other sites listed on the right.

This is like asking "How are your sales since Obama's birthday?" The two things have nothing to do with each other.
As much as Yuri would like to have us think otherwise, he was just a small drop in the huge microstock bucket. His leaving is just not that significant.
I agree with you, except in the case where you were in direct competition with his images in a search. If his image(s) was in the first spot and hogging all the downloads and is now gone, there may be a little boost to be had, at least for one or two people who get the new top spot.

I broke down and purchased a CC subscription after wanting a image stabilization tool (Warp Stabilizer) available in After Effects that they just added for the CC version. I have never gotten into using Lightroom to manage and edit RAW's though. I still use bridge -> Camera Raw -> Photoshop

August was slightly down from July this year which is rather uncommon. I didn't upload much this month however which could have something to do with the numbers. Most sites were on their avg % of my earnings but iStock was down from a usual 8% down to 5% of my earnings.
%'s from the big earners are Shutterstock 49% Fotolia 15% All the little guys 10% 123RF 7% Dreamstime 5% iStock 5% Depositphotos 4% Bigstock 3%
I'm still eager to see how the fall plays out.

All the low earners are going to be worried for sure! This is sort of like the kiss of death- it will not happen over night but in a few years they will be gone...
Agreed. Sites with very low earnings and mediocre commissions are probably concerned (or should be) and may have a hard time attracting photographers in the future. Large sites like Shutterstock, Fotolia, iStock etc. offer the buyer a completely different 'experience' and are in a different league.

Thanks for responding here Lee. If they've got you taking care of the social media stuff (or at least on here) they will be well represented!
I'm very eager to see how this platform takes off. It's always exciting with new stuff. I'm also impressed by how smooth their site is considering the ultra crappy connection I'm currently surfing through.
