Been doing stills for a while, but this video world is new and so I'm curious for those of you who have been doing it where do you start seeing consistant earnings? Me too, have been doing stills for a while and have made a logical transition to footage about 6 months ago. So far my results have been humble with 4 sales (2x on Pond5, 1x SB and 1x SS). Average of $20 net each. Here's a link to my P5 port: https://www.pond5.com/artist/brasilnut#1/2063My video portfolio is about 313 HD clips (mixture between timelapses and real time). Early days and enjoying the new experience.

I would not think about upload anything that I have on a microstock site. It has to bee unique and making quality takes time. I would suggest to upload all your editorials on Alamy.

while i agree some photos are very good, bu not expect miracle in rm, i think you can find better work in rm agency. personally i would keep selling in rf, Robert Harding also sell as RF. In fact you can choose whether only RF or only RM or let them decide. These days I just let them decide.

Thank you so much! About applying for Robertharding i'm asking myself if i would get more income or not, and if this change would create a lot of work for me? I'm still only doing it as a hobby and for challenging myself...!? I see you've got yourself set up on Robert Harding and they've accepted a substantial batch. Really nice and colourful shots! https://www.robertharding.com/martinschneiter/Best of luck with sales on there!

They pay 15%, are you really going to bother jumping through their silly hoops?

Thank you so much! About applying for Robertharding i'm asking myself if i would get more income or not, and if this change would create a lot of work for me? I'm still only doing it as a hobby and for challenging myself...!? More exposure for sure...as for income, difficult to say. RM takes a lot longer to sell than on micros but royalties are almost-always more attractive. They do license as RF but can also take a while. You def need to be in it for the long-haul. I've only been able to accumulate 331 images on there after 18 months - finally some regular sales, but royalties much less than at SS which makes sense since I have 8,500 on there and have been uploading there for much longer.

Hey fellow traveler, I'd suggest to get in touch with Robert Harding and/or 4Corners. Some of your work shouldn't be on micros and that's a compliment! Here's a link to my port on RH which i'm quite proud and has not been easy to build since they reject most of my submissions (80%+): https://www.robertharding.com/photographers/alexandrerotenberg/PM if if you're interested and I'll be happy to give you some tips on passing your first submission. Alex

Since the agencys pay and charges very different, I wonder if it is a bad thing to have the same image on many different sites? As a customer it would be possible to get the image you want cheaper if you go to right site. Yes, it can be a bad thing depending on the image. Perhaps something rare/unique or possibly borderline illegal (such as shooting where commercial photography is prohibited), it's better to limit where you want to license such images. Ideally keep them on Alamy as RM, for example. Otherwise, for the vast majority of images, customers don't seem to search around that much. Difficult to have concrete evidence but I just had a commercial sale on Alamy yesterday for $110 gross and that same file is available for subs on micros, go figure. Master Steve and I have written about this phenomenon of whether customers shop around quite a few times on our respective blogs.

Would you have the chance to capture editorials of those e-game competitions in S.Korea...crowds, contestants, promotions, etc? They're fanatics and a huge and growing business!
I used to play Starcraft a few years ago, must have lost a few months of my life. Also Counter-strike.

One way to prevent our work being copied is by avoiding posting on those silly "show me your best-sellers" threads. They seem to have gone into overdrive on the SS forum. Happy days for thieves.

Interesting! It's like couch-surfing for stock photography. I'd love to spend some serious time in Madrid. Late-night tapas ) Spanish women are beautiful... How does Milan sound to you?

Good going Steve and anyone else who can continue to make any income growth in this cold market. Steve is proof that there's plenty of life in this "stinking fish". Really inspirational and I trust that his income will continue to grow for the near-future. He must be on the non-capped privileged list As for the algos, I have noticed that in the past 2 months there's been a surge of never-before-sold images from at least a year ago which have started selling. At first I thought was just noise / anomaly, but this trend is holding strong. Why would a relatively generic image from 2 years ago only start selling now? Not complaining, just trying to understand. Has anybody noticed this as well?

Solid month, uploaded some 800 images and 100 clips. Not expecting much in these quiet weeks but if it stays like this in Sept/Oct/Nov, I'll be worried.

I believe most full time microstockers are way too busy producing product to bother with selfie tutorials... Or they don't have enough of a technical knowledge to edit to an excellent standard, as seen by Guilherme's final result. I certainly don't, and stick with publishing blog posts. Seems like these types of YouTube tutorials have the potential to reach a much further audience and have a greater impact.

AS others have said aswell, I cannot understand why you would want to tell the world what your best sellers are. Once you have told everyone, I'm sure some will try to copy, unless they are hard to copy, your best sellers may not be your best sellers for much longer. I agree to a certain extend that it's probably a good idea to keep our 'cards close to our chests'. My top 5 lists consists of quite time-sensitive editorials which are almost impossible to recreate. For the still life/seasonal photographers out there, it's just shooting yourself in the foot. So are 90% of vloggers doing youtube instructional videos because they can't make it at what they are giving instruction on?
I'd estimate the majority of people doing stock video/photos are part timers many of whom struggle to make their expenses back. They will be the ones making continuous posts as well as sharing their sales info. Meanwhile the core of professionals actually making it work are heads down, and know better than to share their hard earned trade secrets and financial info for all comers. I don't see why someone can't do both? There's a wise saying: "to teach is to learn twice". Don't you also cut your own throat as well as the agencies by selling on cheaper sites? I don't think stock photo buyers buyers shop around nearly as much as in other industries (travel, hotels, food etc). I put together a post on this exact subject in reference to duplicating images on Alamy and micros: https://brutallyhonestmicrostock.com/2018/02/06/do-alamy-buyers-search-elsewhere-answers-from-alamy/

AS tends to be pickier for these types of rejection than other agencies, but make up for it with dubious commercial images with identifiable people and/or logos, so it's OK!
I would add that as well as reasonable use of noise reduction, to go minus on clarity in Lightroom, although not so much that it will make the image too soft. Ideally expose correctly in-camera and use low ISO (if possible).
Are you opening up shadows much? Sometimes this exposes noises.
Would help to post some examples.

I had 3 x 20 cents video downloads - a real kick in the teeth for me. Even if I'm a newbie videographer this is pathetic. Requested them to to remove all my videos.
Sticking with them with images there but am cautiously pessimistic, along with the not-so-bright future of a few other agencies.

Which months are you taking into account?
June/July/August generally tend to be slower earning months, perhaps it's just a temporary drop.
