I was thinking that the $100 payout change was pretty awful, then I thought hang on, if I'm not going to make that in the forseeable future why the heck am I uploading to them anyway? All they've done is make it more obvious that they probably aren't worth uploading to in the first place. Own goal.
Yeah but before I could let them sit there and earn me a couple of beers a year, download work was already done. now its 2 cartons of beer every 5 years.

I think $100 payout figure is too high for veer market place, there just isn't the earnings there to justify it. Veer presently represents about 2% of my monthly earnings. Not a real big incentive to keep going with them but I have. Dash for cash has sucked me in for a while longer.
As they form only 2% of my earnings to get a monthly payout that would mean I would have to be earning around $60,000 per annum total from all my agencies.
A payout figure of $50 would be more realistic and would be inline with payout values for canstock, bigstock, fotolia etc.

What if... If you put your best seller in Exclusive +, then the customers will buy a non Exclusive + that look similar to yours. Is this true or not?
Depending on the search order the buyer might never see the non-exclusive image. At least that was one theory floating around. Has anybody done any research into the search placement for non-exclusive/exclusive/exclusive+/vetta placement ? To encourage discussion I searched "man laptop glasses" out of the first 50 were 7 vetta, 9 exclusive+, 25 exclusive, 9 non-exclusive

In first look 3 years for nothing new at all?!?
Sorry, do not really understand what you are trying to get across there.
The site has been completely re-developed, with full events, many updates to make selling photos nice and simple for the photographers and more.
Don't be sorry your not the only one who finds it hard to understand

you didn't mention what camera you've got now. I'd say go for the lights and by the time the 5d mk3 comes out you'll be ready to pounce.

Those don't look like "real people". Those look like badly posed, badly lit hired models on white.
I agree. If they want to claim "real people" for me it not standing infront of white. Locational shots add so much to the "believeability" into shots.

what's going on can't we find some threads from 2005 to restart ??

Lightroom is a major omission from the choices...it's very popular and excellent.
Probably wasn't included in the poll because it was made 4 years ago in 2006. Does this one win the record for digging up dead threads ?

I hope this comes off. I was keen for veer to fill the void that the destruction of stockxpert made but looks like that's not going to happen.
I'll be signing up and submitting a couple of hundred and then wait and see.
The commissions and pricing seem to be okay

that is one of the most amazing things I've ever seen. Just how perfectly round it looks. Kind of like how you would draw it in a comic or something.

In bubble dot.com ballon I saw P/E ratio bigger than 500 and more... Today you have bunch of companies (worldwide) with P/E ratio above 50...
But 15x isn't too much, because calculation isn't only with last year earning, that is average estimated earnings for several years, provided that every year will be 50% lower than the previous year...
Maybe I miss understand you, but I don't agree with your calculation. say I pay $15 for something that earns $1 i.e P/E = 15 1st year $1 then $0.50 the next year and so on $1+0.5+0.25+0.125+0.0625 etc. After 40 years you have a total of about $2 (oh and by the way the investment is now worth 0 is its earnings are zero) Companies have a P/E ratio of around 15 because they generally increase earnings over time. (at least plan to) We're talking about something here where it is very unlikely to increase earnings. (without adding to the portfolio etc.)

15 x earning is way to high, companies that are valued that high are much more deversified than a portfolio of microstock photos.
Maybe microstockgroup could branch out into portfolio auctions
basic facts: PE is the price to earnings ratio , so a PE of 15 means the price is 15x current earnings -- the higher the ratio the RISKIER the stock. [in the dot com bubble PEs of 50 or more were common] in the case of Getty it has NOTHING to do with the RPI - it would be an indication of getty's worth to investors, and has NO direct connection to the size of getty's portfolio
s
Sorry I wasn't more clear, by "diversified" I didn't mean about a "diversity of a portfolio of pictures" I was referring to what a company does, for example a company like GE does heavy engineering, airplane motors, finance, manufacturing etc. Earnings are spread over different sectors of the economy and globe. Just as you say the dot com companies were over valued at 50x earnings I believe 15x is too high for a single microstock portfolio

Yes, you need to click on the link, to see that the news was about the South African World Cup. Funny confusion though
they probably just meant that the world cup will be won by a team from south america
what you don't think Australia or New Zealand will win ?

May is almost finished. Still zero uploads for many of best microstockers: Yuri, Monkeybusiness, Iofoto, Avava, lumaxart (0 images in portfolio), Redbaron, PhilDate, BelleImages and many others I don't think that all of them are going to be exclusive somewhere. Yuri said in SS forum, in thread related to DT (the topic seems to be deleted now) that he stopped uploading to Dreamstime because he works only with "professional sites" Maybe others think the same, DT in not worth to work with.
didn't lumaxart put their whole portfolio up for sale and i thought Iofoto's gone back to doing macro only

if they're asking for a large amount of photos and your worried about whether you'll get paid. I'd suggest only do small batch at the one time and after you get payment send the next batch.
I had a request once for a specific local location via istock. I thought it was just easier to load to Istock than handle payments and contracts myself. Its sold a number of times since.
On the otherhand If I thought I was going to make $1000's from the transaction I would have probably handled it myself.

The other way to look at it might to be make a hard rule of investing all your microstock earnings and not using it to pay for luxuries. If you put $1000 a week away in investments in a couple of years you would have a good residual income stream to supplement photography earnings. Bit of an insurance policy before ditching the steady job. I'm also assuming that you do get downloads on the weekend.

In Stockholm and London where Im active, a gallon of petrol is about 8 bucks, a pint of lager in a pub about 9 bucks! need I say more?
??
9 bucks in which currency? in London a pint is about 3 to 3.50 in a pub; maybe a little more in a club or in pubs in very touristic areas
I think they used stockholm as the example for the price of beer. http://www.pintprice.com/city.php?/Stockhlom/Sweden/usd.htm

Maybe its just a fluke I dont know but my acceptance ratio here historically has been pretty good. 319 images online and 126 rejected. For me that's fairly consistent with SS and DT.
Initially my acceptance rate there was pretty bad, but random. Some whole batches going through then 90% of the next batch rejected. I slowed uploading. In the last 2 months or so they had been approving alot more, probably because number of photos being submitted had gone down they were starting to realise that they needed to let more through our they'd end up with no new photos. I hope that this initiative and advertising gets veer on track and starts to replace some of the lost income from StockXpert.

with all these low sale values should Alamy be added to the "microstock" list ?

Corbis tried to enter the MicroStock market with SnapVillage. We all know that SV was a miserable failure - that is now history. Then they decided to start all over with Veer Marketplace - this time to "do it right". I my opinion they have learned very little from the SV experiment.
and the worst thing is that I sold more on Snapvillage then Veer

I put it to you: This HAS TO stop and we MUST come up with a better solution in favour of the contributors! For now, I LOVE the idea of a central place for contributors to load their images and let agencies merely get the meta tags and thumbnails!! Can we make this work?
I'm sorry... you are?
