Never mind about the camera, is there any room for a model (models).
A little duck. Model's hands under the fabric at the back to do hand shoots. Actually Nikola, it's all your fault since I was jealous at your product shots.  :P

Works fine here. The real Yaymicro. But you can still check your third party sales here::)

Great shot, the first one. As a subs buyer at DT and thanks to my Firefox Picscout plugin, I could find it in 2 sec on DT for less since it's just a level 2 image there. I can even have it max size there as a sub (5DII).
Sorry, blame Picscout  ;)

Dreamstime.com / Re: Planning on going exclusive at Dt
« on: July 28, 2010, 10:23 »
I'm currently building my Free Galleries with old shots on old cams that would never pass QC on any agency nowadays. Of course my download pages will be stuffed with Google Ads and Adsense. Those images are 2-3K, often a bit soft and certainly noisy. But they look fine at 600 or 800 px web resolution.

Under any exclusivity contract, I would not be allowed to post them for download, not on my site and certainly not on Flickr. I can't live with that.

Out of the DT exclusivity agreement:
Quote
Exclusive contributors may, however, sell their other artwork on a photographer-to-client basis.

Does that mean you can offer your free images on your own site?

Here's a well reviewed one for pretty reasonable:

If it's only for the OS+progs, OP doesn't need 500GB. He can have a 160GB one for under 40$. If your system disk is too large, sooner or later you'll get tempted to also store data on it. A hint is also to make a full backup of your clean OS HD after all is installed. Do most with the internet cable unplugged. In case you are plagued by weird locally bred viruses or worms (I do), it's a good practice to reformat every month. From a full backup, restore works like a charm.

@OP: why order online? You'll have to pay at least 8$ extra for the carrier and it will take time. If something goes wrong you'll have to ship it back and forth. HD's are a commodity. Just try a local shop and you'll have it now. If something goes wrong, you can easily bring it back. It's easier to deal with a local shop keeper eye to eye than with a call-center agent in India.

« on: July 28, 2010, 09:45 »
I hope the term "iStock" is more clear to everybody here now.
Thanks for the explanation.  :)

If it's only for the OS, who cares it breaks down after 2-3 years? An OS and the progs are easy to restore. Data aren't. It will break if you use it all the time, certainly when you also use it as PS scratch disk. Mine broke down exactly after 3 years of use, and I replaced it by the cheapest one around which seems to be 300 Gig something for 50$. Off the shelf.

I remember them all :)
I spent hours and hours playing with your calibration sites.  Obsessively, to get it just right :)
When I first downloaded your bag of goodies I wasn't even a registered member on this forum. Just an avid reader and I trusted you :)

Hahaha, I have A Fan, lol. Actually, that list is my todo-list whenever I have to reinstall a PC. It's amazing how much free software you come across, install it, and then it works like crap or it crashes something. At least this stuff works so it's a handy selection. If you want an easy way to keep updated, add me on Twitter. I just use it once in a while to notify goodies and stuff.

Crestock.com / Re: Crestock - new owner?
« on: July 27, 2010, 17:33 »
Maybe bit off topic, but is really a big temptation for new people to join too many. I think I learn my lesson and now only stay with Shutterstock, Istock and maybe Dreamstime because Dreamstime old stuff sell better than new stuff.
Only now my problem, and I want to ask you all, what you do with your dead stuff in the other dead duck agencies? You  delete work? Is too much work ?.
Well it's a temptation and I plead guilty. I must have wasted days uploading on sites that never made it. The problem is a bit that you really don't know in advance. An upload fee certainly makes it worth its time. If a site treats you fair this way, no reason to leave them later, even if they don't sell a lot. I count Depositphotos in that group, and also Veer and Zoonar. If it's really too much work, you can just stop uploading for a while, but keep your port.

There are sites that don't sell much but that you want keep supporting out of sympathy. I count Canstockphoto amongst them. It was the first site that accepted me 5 years ago and it always has been the best programmed site around, thanks to the vision of Duncan. I always liked his style, and although he wasn't always the best communicator, he always has been the best "nerd".  ;) Even now, CanStockPhoto has the best upload and MRF attach module around. I think Artemis here on the forum is reviewing on CanStockPhoto (unless it's another Artemis).

Crestock can redevelop into a good site after some time, when they get rid of their past, and slowly decommission the people that ran it into bankruptcy. The site is programmed well and it has some great resources online. As the new owners slowly get hold of things there, they might breath a second life into Crestock, but they are pretty late in the game. Perhaps we will see a sortof Cash 4 Dash campaign later this year or next year when they see their collection stagnant, and that's perhaps the time to start uploading. I always saved loads of money waiting for the right sales season.  :P

This is the gallery

Ooooh, they stole my wall fan!

Crap place? Prepare to be introduced (in an exclusive preview) to FD's Gusa Vision Studios! Second only to Vegas Vision Studios as to equipment, atmosphere and facilities!
Midst the lofty surrounds of the breathtaking Mindanao mountains, this gem offers the guests:
Quote
  • state of the art reflectors made of leftovers of the roof insulation (that brings the unbearable 36C down to a comfortable 34C)
  • a professional light tent entirely constructed with prime water tubing leftovers, the best that cheap Chinese import plastic can offer
  • amenities like a fully equipped kitchen with microwave, fridge and a reasonably mouse-free sink (don't eat the poison pellets please)
  • (stay away from my nescaf and creamer though! no kidding)
  • a very high tech calendar and assorted clock to plan your shoots (bring some thumbnails to adjust the calendar)
  • a rock solid table for all your product shoots - strong and stable enough to carry an elephant if there is one in the room (you might have to add some tubing)

Now you might think that this is just a crap layout of a poor guy on his kitchen table. Wrong!
We have an international and worldwide exposure and our shots are sold for up to a full 35 dollarcents (wow!) all over the web!  ;D

You need your coffee, FD  :)
I was talking to Mr D :)

Oh don't spill my secrets here.  ;D

months and months and months ago you gave us a list with recommended free utilities.
I downloaded them all and happily used your Registry Cleaner whenever needed.
I haven't got it anymore and I want it back.
Was it the Eusing?
Thank you :)

Oh I'm too shy to pimp my site all the time.  :P
My goodies are on Essential Tools all tested and used daily. Your link is in the second section, or directly here. The third section is about handy monitor calibration tools, and the first section about general tools. I made somebody happy yesterday on the DT forum with the Advanced Renamer that I use all the time to rename my files to something unique and transparent.

Enjoy!

yes, we need to keep these secrets to ourselves.  ;) unfortunately this is a public board.

I know  ;D
For the OP, I'm not sure if you got it all. A working example says so much more. Also for everybody else interested, I put the PSD with all layers in my public dropbox. Feel free to download (you don't need a Dropbox account for it):
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8852448/4830824287_e37821703c_b.psd
Beware that after flattening the layers, there will be a lot of added noise and blobs in the upper left dark clouds. Don't use noise reduction on it but a simple Gaussian blur of 2.0 or more. Do that in a separate layer and selectively erase in the original top layer with a 50pct soft brush until the noise is gone. The blur doesn't matter there since the original clouds were blurred already.

In the PSD, toggle the visibility of the several layers one by one to see how they work. In particular, have a look at the green coloring.

If it is in any way useful to you and you don't have a Dropbox account yet, please consider using my referral link signing up for a free account: https://www.dropbox.com/referrals/NTg4NTI0NDg5
I normally don't post referral links unless I can give something in return.  :)

So what if he is nice guy, it doesnt mean thay you must bath with him and pick fart bubbles together.
Lol. I bet he makes more money than you and me. We can't afford his farts!
@FD-regular
On they "redesign" I only see that they move search window in line with logo  ;D
Maybe site map was flat so if they change few things that dont be called redesign and they will be payed less.
I agree with concept buyers in front but that means that for us will be more painfull.
Yap but you can bookmark them deeper so it will be the same. The trick is to funnel a naive buyer into a sale and I'm sure they optimized the surf flow for that.
Why they are not talking about that they will keyword our images and put them in they fairy tale CV, or dont reject our images for few wrong keywords for they 80% of royalty from us?
Everytime is story how to screw us more.
My last batch they removed all the bad keywords and approved the image. Istock reviewers are grown up.
If they make home page for submitters they will drop down in top 500 ww by factor of 2 or 3 on the list and they of course dont like this idea
Good point but as submitters probably won't have an Alexa toolbar installed, it won't have a lot of influence.

thanks for the instruction! i hope i don't turn into a 'soft light' monster on all my old photos that i am now going to tweek.
There are more tricks that don't add noise. But I was so stupid to give the soft light away. Shame on me ;-) Keep da secret, will ya?  ;D I also use it on models to get that 'special' glow.

It appears I cant set up my portfolio links until I have at least 25 posts or something.
Sorry! I was wrong. Nice port!

868
Since there is a lot of exclusive, it's difficult to give everyone a better best match IMO. I also have equally or less downloads than before, but that is partly because of the summer vacation. Maybe also some buyers shop elsewhere. The thing I know is that many contributors have poor sales at Istock, I read that a lot lately.
Nah. I will have my WME ever at DT soon. Microstock is done. I didn't even touch my cam in 7 weeks.

Sales have been relatively consistent (numbers in downloads):

March: 17
April: 30
May: 22
June: 27

Will keep adding images and see if it grows...
New member, 2 posts in different threads, both posts exactly the same, no portfolio links?
Hahaha... multiple red flags raised. Liar.  :P

i like this version. how did you tweek it?
i checked the dt versions and none had your expansive beach foreground without seaweed somewhere. so, this is unique in it own way.

Soft light layers. Make a new layer on top and change it from "normal" to "soft light". Then add a gradient from bottom to half up, colors white>nothing (transparent). Another layer for the clouds: on top black to nothing near the horizon. Then play with the transparency.

You should be aware that this kind of images is not in demand in commercial stock though. The competition in HDR is very stiff and there are some great artists around you'll have to compete with.

Recently I submit images like this, and they get accepted without problems. Someone will say they are overfiltered, but unless you are messing with tiny details on the image you should be just fine. You don't have to saturate colors so much. This was just an example. But I often do it and they don't get rejected.
I like your edits too. The beach is kindof empty but there can be done a lot with the clouds.

Photo Critique / Re: Rejection:
« on: July 26, 2010, 16:29 »
Hmm, food for thought.  If I increase the exposure it'll risk burining out the clouds and the snow.
Hint: use a very steady tripod and do exposure bracketing. Put shots in several layers and erase selectively. It's called HDR-light. Some contrasts in landscapes are just too large to bridge by the best cam possible.

You can also take several exposures within an hour but the clouds will differ. If the castle is lit at night, you can do a night shot and replace the castle in twilight by the night shot. Should be gloomy and unreal (like all HDR) but very appealing.

Yes. Hint: soft light layers.

not approving landmark or travel right?
That was my impression from their rejects, yes. Not that many but it was an omen. They swallowed all my overwhite studio people and products, but my forte is landscapes (before). I'm a bit scared to upload those now, since perhaps later, they'll change policy.

he might be accused of pimping his photo by other members of the forum.
It would be if there was a "buy now" link and if this forum was populated with buyers. Both aren't true.
Actually, that isn't true. I am a buyer. Not a huge buyer, but buyer nonetheless. But hey, whatever.  ;)
His photo was rejected. How could you buy it?  :P
