I'd go along with that.  Low RPD with high volumes is acceptable, low RPD with low volumes is not.  I like the upload process / reviewing and customer support is good but, even as a hobbiest, the new rates will simply make it not worthwhile.  I'm going to stop uploading as soon as the new rates kick in then give it a month or so to see if volumes double - if not will start disabling my port.

They should go to level 2 after the first sale regardless of how old they are but sometimes the various "views" take timme to synchronise.  I agree with Ponke though...

It's a pointless question if someone is figuring out the pro and cons of dropping the crown.  The op needs to figure out what he / she might lose by being non-exclusive on IS and then maybe some detail on how RPI per accepted image compares between IS and SS for non exclusives generally. The fact that Johnny makes $1 and Fred makes 10c on SS is not useful info.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Why is iStockphoto tanking?
« on: October 30, 2012, 10:18 »
I see the same trend with IStock tanking.
So many reasons, and all have been discussed before.

Inconsistent, confusing and high pricing.

To this point, a friend of mine and occasional istock buyer just emailed me asking why this image and this image cost so much more than this image. How the heck do you answer that?

Easy.  Various images are selected by editors or contributors for whatever reasons to be in certain, differently priced collections.  If an image is too expensive for you, check the lower priced collections.

"whatever reasons" huh?  right up there with "that's why" as an explanation but I'm sure it's 100% accurate all the same.

Cthoman gives a good balanced answer based on some actual facts..

Heres the thing, SS income depends a lot on the subs / od/ el / sod mix.  The latter 2 make a huge difference and with a small port probably only happen every few months.  Also, SS performance by others is totally invisible and, to hear some folks talk, its 20 times better than other top 4 sites even IS I take that with a shovel full of salt (actually if you believe everything you see here I can put you in touch with a Nigerian acquaintance with an interesting business proposition).

The only site where you can see the actual portfolio performance of your peers is DT.  If you compare your performance to others there, taking into account the length of time you will have some idea.  You can then extrapolate based on your own DT vs SS performance.  Accurate?  Probably not but at least its based on some real numbers.

"It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.

I've got a Level 0 image on DT that was downloaded as an EL on SS last week.
On DT's scale its SS sales add up to a Level 3 image. I've got quite a few images that are selling
elsewhere but are dead at DT. Could be search placement or buyer demographics?

It gets better - check the comparison that was posted - price cuts on the way across the board - mightn't affect most of you now but be * sure it will.

For me that shows level 0 after 6 months, for you or if I logged out probably 2 years.  Serban has confirmed that they are "experimenting" again so better than average chance this is coming for everyone.  Maybe going on for a while as I had previous got a lower than expected price on a sale.

At least IS, FT and 123 give you advance notice of a shafting!!

Yeah, in the good old days, there were tens of thousands less small producers and millions less small consumers then computers came out of the air conditioned rooms and the WWW arrived and weekend shooters were suddenly able to produce work comparable to the pros and.....

I am doing on FT quite fine!
Last several days have been very good on Depositphoto...
But, DT is tanking for me, every day more and more!

This was the way earlier in the year for me also (relatively speaking of course) but FT have died back a lot and DT has come back to the sort of levels I'd expect and a clear #2 after SS.

So....  What we need is the prices at DT, with their exclusive commissions coupled with SS volumes.  Let's all go exclusive with DT and the buyers will follow.

(Only half joking)  ;)

The lowest I've ever earned on SS was 0.28c, back when I started.  That was a while ago now.

The lowest I can earn today on iStock is 0.7c.

Yeah, the "wow factor" on IS is a 7c sale - on SS it's a $120 - $300 SOD  ;D

Couple of observations:

We don't sell our work, just licence it so hundreds @ a few cents makes a better deal than a few at a couple of dollars
Pricing and commissions are the simplest and most transparant
I find reviewing fair and consistent (appreciate not everyone does)
Overall it is what it is with no nasty surprises

Noticed a flaw on one and deleted from pending queue all sites including DT -  no problem.  Note (just in case) it must be pending (not unfinished) to delete on DT.

Dunno - other great men (e.g. Caesar) referred to themselves in the 3rd person  ;D
Not everybody in Caesar's time thought of him as a great man. Guess it all depends on whose side you were standing on  ;)

True but the important bit here is that Caesar thought he was a great man  8)

Sytle isn't about what you do but how you do it - you can have a very diverse port and still have a style.

Jealousy sets in when ppl, declare way over, 100 bucks per day. what a pitty, so sad!  my heart is bleeding.
What is that supposed to mean?  Nobody has mentioned being jealous of downloads.  This thread is about reviewing not dls.  You seem to exist on a different plain to everybody else.

So far this year I've made more on Alamy than on SS.

this year (9 months)
SS - 4437$
Alamy - 45$

That's as good an argment for not bothering as I'm likely to get  ;D

I've seen so many tales of the rejected images that get accepted 2nd time around.  Feed the same data into a program and you will always get the same result so highly unlikely that software is making the decisions.
