Andrew is a truly nice guy, on forums and in person, and I think you will find most people will agree with me on that. It's very well visible on the video. The kid with the 70-ish hairdo is obviously very nervous as a tech guy not used to public performances, and Rogermexico talks him through in a very supportive way. The remake of the IS sitemap looks very good, giving the buyer more screen real estate. The usability study was obviously very thorough, observing buyers in real time. The only remark is that submitters will need more clicks to get to their stuff. Of course, buyers should be the focus and not submitters. I wonder why IS didn't give submitters their own page, submit.istockphoto.com. In that case, you don't have to make compromises on the landing page. It works well for Shutterstock.

There are places still today in Indonesia where people live without running water, telephones or electricity and live normal lives. Well normal for them. Living most of the time in Northern Mindanao, I can witness this kind of situations. They are quite normal in the rural areas, and those people don't walk around like savages in tribal outfit at all. "No running water" means nothing. This is the tropics and it rains all the time. It's easy to catch and store it. Everybody has "nannies", unemployed girls that do all the washing by hand, the cooking, the cleaning and fetching water at a totally clean mountain stream (many of those!) for 30$ a month (if you feed them too). Telephone? Landlines are scarce and only in the cities. Who needs them with all the area covered by cellphone antennas? If they don't have a cellphone themselves, their mom or dad has one, a cousin in the extended family that lives in the group or the barangay captain has one. That cellphone is shared in the group. No electricity? Well even in my suburban gated compound, we have rotating brownouts of 6hrs per day. The money for the maintenance of the hydroelectric power stations ended up in the pockets of some politicians. I heard things like that are standard practice in Indonesia too. I run on a home generator then which is a PITA since the fuel costs me as much as a month's rent. When in Rome, do as the Romans. Street names and house numbers? Hahaha. Everybody knows were everybody lives so why would you need that? Poverty? They live better and more relaxed than many people in the West, having to rush around to get by. The dad of my models is the mayor of one of these rural places. Everybody can find him and he gets his snail mail but he has no street name nor house number. iStock accepted the release without problems, you just have to mention it clearly. Of course, I attached a photo with her holding the completed release and her school ID next to her head.

he might be accused of pimping his photo by other members of the forum. It would be if there was a "buy now" link and if this forum was populated with buyers. Both aren't true.

WOW !!!! 128GB Echo SE Backup Drive Part Number: LEHSE128BSBNA Price: $499.99 Hahahahaha. I'm a frequent traveler and I always carry my laptop and an 120$ 1TB Iomega disk with me. My 16GB card is always in the cam and it is more than enough for a daytrip. I am shooting since I was a kid, at 14, and using film (every time a fortune for me) made me very selective in my shots. Of course, doing video too will fill up your card fast.

True, but I like and hate DT because one day I get a big non-sub sale for small size and then I am happy. Then I get same picture download for sub XL for tiny commission and I shake my head. I think worse still, buyer of large size paying non sub money will not be happy to know another buyer get much much bigger same picture for 1/8th of money . As a modest but daily buyer (more specifically image scouting for the real buyer that is a design company in Chennai working for a daily media group) on DT, I figured this out long ago. I even made a post about it on the MSG. The smallest subs pack on DT makes you profit already after day 4 if you are hunting for the higher level = higher impact images. Those are too expensive by credits. As an added bonus, you'll get them max-size. That's why buyers that can count love DT so much. After the recent collapse of my earnings at DT I don't care what they do with subs. I want them to keep the current program. This month I made 10x the amount by scouting fees on DT, than as a contributor. You guys really don't see it right? The people surrounding the image industry make much more money of your images than yourself. Of course, this post will go unnoticed again...

I know this is old thread alert, but I've been noticing this trend for several months. In fact, I found this particular thread by googling "istockphoto new files don't sell", just to see if anyone else was talking about it. Sure enough. Not only do my meager, once-in-a-while uploads no longer sell, but I've been observing portfolios of several top contributors who usually produce consistent sellers, and the trend is the same with all of them: files uploaded after about Feb 2010 are DOA. Thanks for your observations and welcome to the MSG. I stopped uploading twice to IS since 2005 and till now, half of my sales are still from before 2007. I resumed uploading in 2009, and the things that start to sell now are those of 2009, with an odd brand new shot in the list. The secret of sales of course is search engine position, not that much quality. Since the best match has been changed regularly in the past, I don't care any more and I just upload, hoping that the best match will change again.

I loved StockXpert was my third best agency. If you dog dies and you are still in mourning, you will grab any chance to get a new puppy with exactly the same colors and looks. It's very human. Just don't expect the new puppy to be the same as the old dog. I'm quite amused how people are dying to get in a brand new site without any upfront payment to upload. Peter put a spell on us.

Things HAVE changed. For sure. My review was completed within AN HOUR after submission. The problem: they accepted 10 of the 110 images Thanks for the info. They are still the same then. No use considering uploading there. The same disease as all these new sites like Fresh, Veer. Too selective and ignorant reviewers as to what sells. It's an omen: they won't make it.

The Lads from Lagos http://scamorama.com/If you don't know what to do, you can try the scambait game. It's fun. I once chatted a few nights on cam with my future "fianc" from Ghana. I saw their netcafe-business with tens of similar girls online, and the supervisor walking around. The girl was quite naive since she seemed to developing some affection, forgetting to ask for the business. The third night the supervisor chimed in, using all his sleazy tricks. Near the end, when it turned out I wouldn't send money for the marriage papers and the passport but would visit my "love" myself, he scorned me like hell and that was it. I'm still prepared to hand out their money as a service, but I need to have their real cash first in my hands.

I expect big changes, since Masterfile is one of the top macro stock agencies. But, who knows. Corbies is the big one and look what happened to SnapVillage and now Veer still struggling. At least they are cleaning up the mess, since it was quite obvious that Crestock was on the verge of bankruptcy. Well the macros obviously all want a micro leg now, since their macro income certainly must be fading away slowly. The issue is here that they have to fight against 4 giants that control the market with 7-12 million images in their collections. Whatever they can offer, it will be 10 times less and exactly the same content. So what could be their USP? If the dust is settled there (it might take a while) I would consider uploading but only if they pay to upload. Veer has set the mark. I'm not going to waste time uploading any more to unproven sites that have a high risk of failure.

@ Brian: Thanks for the clearing up. I will check my images and come back to you if I don't understand. Patricia You can't since it has been mentioned here that you can't re-edit your keywords after they have been swallowed in by the system. That makes it so frustrating.

The disconnect and source of confusion is between submitted keywords (what was entered during upload or extracted from IPTC), versus what we call "search terms" - or terms from our CV (controlled vocabulary).
The upload interface and the approved tab show the submitted keywords. The image details page displays the search terms The site stores the submitted keywords in the system, but only search terms from our CV are actually, well... searchable.
While it causes confusing cases like this, in most instances the mapping process from submitted keywords to search terms really helps to improve search relevancy. Oh well, thanks for your explanation because this clarifies a lot. I figure that Snapvillage had the same kind of re-mapping. I also wondered why I sold nothing there, and when I had a look at my best sellers, I couldn't even find them. Turned out it was a whitespace or something. That's when I gave up there. If it is a question of mapping raw keywords in the IPTC to CV terms, why not develop an app like the Deepmeta screen for keywords on iStock? You can see all your raw keywords and how they will be mapped in the CV. It's really very fast to disambiguate and map all. I couldn't find many of my images back in the searches too, at least when using relevant keywords. It made me wonder what went wrong.

Would the keywords "sexy" or "nude" apply to the following image for purposes of istock sales? Yes, + erotic.

Not much point in being in a hurry though, as they wont make us any money until they have buyers. What is there for buyers? Right now they have all shots of Yuri plus a few other large producers. Stuff that is already at a gazillion sites. StockXpert buyers certainly found their turf by now, where they can buy all the Yuri stuff plus much more. Why would they return? SF will have to find a compelling USP for buyers, but as it has a tendency for now to reject other stuff than studio shots, how can they ever build a "different" collection?

My application was rejected, and you know what, I agree with them 100%. At least for now the site is mostly smiling people, with a lot of white, a very clean style . . . . . . classical studio type photography which a lot of members here are very good, so good luck and go for it. Well I maybe exaggerated, 1/3 rejects. But I sent in my studio stuff in high-key first on purpose. Those were all accepted. It is, however, a very competitive segment with a lot of supply. I'm just worried that if they limit their collection to that segment, they won't attract many buyers since all that stuff is on the larger sites already, plus all the rest. What is the USP of StockFresh then? Right now, they seem to thread into the (unsuccessful) tracks of Crestock: QC too strict and probably low sales. My rant was not a grunt against rejections. I'd like SF to be successful, but on StockXpert my landscape and more unusual stuff sold the best. What isn't accepted can't sell, right?

hehe - i showed a picture in my initial post but then i got taught by cclapper i should not post (pimp) my pics here. so i took it away... at present i got 754 pics online and 13 in the queue (1 for 20 days and 2 for 19 days now). acceptance ratio is 83.8% OK sorry, I stand corrected. I must have missed the pictures, but anyways, I don't feel it would be pimping. There aren't much buyers around here, and showing a shot is like showing off a home-made bread in a bakery shop. 20 days is extremely long indeed. My maximum was 9 days or so. I uploaded 10 on July 17 and they staid at 152 hrs ETR for 4 days. Now they went to 128hrs. That batch has already been accepted at iStock (uploaded at the same time). It's just a guess but maybe DT wants to stick with their trusted and seasoned reviewers. SS obviously brought in some fresh ones to compensate for the holidays, and you can tell by the unusual rejects. In that case I prefer the policy of DT and wait a little longer.

Additional note - I have started having the model's friends, spouse etc. witness their signature. Before I was just having my hubby do it. They are less likely to contest if their friend is the witness IMO. Since almost a year, I follow the sound advice of RT. Shoot the model's head holding up the signed release next to it.

That was the plan. I'm at 5.25 now and if it ever hits 8 I was going to remove all my links so people would find others. No reason to be greedy. Might just quit at 6 and post the link elsewhere. That was one useful post! I enjoy my Dropbox a lot with a couple of collaborators. We are in different time zones and it's a great way to synchronize common files. No fiddling any more with FTP accounts. Thanks a lot!

Type for "free download", "free software" free this free that, you will often be asked to pay at the end. It's a internet thing to insert a free term in web pages, to attract more traffic. Hahaha. I spent an evening googling for a free flash slideshow generator. The download was free of course. Even the use was "free", till you installed it and then there was a big fat watermark all over. You could remove it by buying the Pro version for just 49.99$. Hahaha. What I really hate are those vendors that throw you in the Internet Exploder when you uninstall their not-so-free product, asking what was wrong. Grrrr... (sorry for the off-topic). I prefer "single fee" because that is what it is, compared to RM. "Royalty" reminds me of queens and kings in the tabloids. I also wouldn't call a commission of 0.20$ "royal".

Nobody should take this as an attack or critique or whatever, but why all these posters having grunges against DT and its acceptance policy are anonymous? What is their weight in portfolio size and experience?
For the record, I don't have any problem with similars at DT. Why? Because I just upload the best concepts of a shoot. The only reject I had lately was because I made a composite of two similar poses, and the reviewer asked me to upload them separately. Quite the opposite. Next to iStock (that is very strict on technical quality), DT has the most reliable and steady reviewers, in my experience.
It's also very difficult to comment about rejections when the images are not shown.
