Too many promises, hype, undue enthusiasm, and bald lies have come before. I love the smell of new stocksites in the morning. You know, one time we had a site set up, for 12 hours. When it was all over, I walked up. We didn't find one of 'em, not one stinkin' dink sale. The smell, you know that gasoline smell, the whole site. Smelled like... defeat. Someday this race's gonna end...(Killgore in Apocalypse Now.

Might be worth leaving some comments to make sure people know these are stolen and they shouldn't use them. The problem with the file sharing sites is he can just keep changing the links. His site needs to be closed down. Heroturko removes all comments. All users there know he distributes warez, they would smile at you. Rapidshare is very quick in removing links when they get noticed. Do you mean shutting Heroturko down? Impossible since he's in a country that allows links to warez. Rapidshare can't be taken down since it's in Kuwait or in Russia somewhere and they always respond promptly to IP violations.

I wish that all sites ceased publishing individual sales data. I wish all sites would have a double login, one for uploading and one for financial. Those working with assistants will know what I mean. I particularly hate that big fat $ number total earnings in the right top corner on every page in Dreamstime, especially in this poor Asian country where even the President doesn't grasp the difference between gross income and net profit.

I've just tried a few searches and felt the resulting images were relatively few in number and poorer in compositional quality than equivalent searches on microstock. Totally correct. I had a look too.

I sure hope they can move our snapvillage uploads over and we don't have to upload them all again. IT never was SV's forte. It took them months to come up with a decent watermark. They never managed to get FTP working. For their blog, they use a simple WordPress install. If you can read between the lines, Veer isn't ready too for a major port. It's not only about copying images but about merging two databases. I'm sceptic... (as always ).

By mid-year youll have the chance to sell your work to a whole new crowd of people and become part of the Veer community. Rest In Peace. I always admired the talent of marketing guys to make an obituary sound like a celebration Sounds like Bill finally pulled the plug. Oringer didn't invent microstock, but he DID invent the subscription model, with fabulous success. There are 3 geniuses in microstock: Enache, Oringer and the guy that sold iStock to Getty, nipping now on his tequila near the pool on the Bahamas.

I disagree. If they showed the photo, and the text accompanying that photo specifically stated that the person in the photo is "xyz" and so uses or recommends their product, it would definitely fall under the usage violation of personal endorsement. But that's the essence of advertising! Advertising is one big lie, it's make believe. Nobody believes that Sean Connery is a Russian submarine captain embracing Communism, nobody believes that the beautiful girl advertising Shampoo XYZ actually used XYZ to get her hair that shiny. She might even hate XYZ since it causes allergy. Nobody believes that McDonald can produce eatable hamburgers that green and fresh and crisp as on their billboards. Hey I'm Cindy, I live in ABC and I'm happily married with two kids. Kids like to play outside and often they get soooo dirty. I regularly had to throw their clothes away, till I discovered BIOBLU. Yes, with BIOBLU my life changed totally, and my kids are happier than ever since they can play in the mud as much as they want. BIOBLU gets rid of all stains. My relationship got much better too (enters the loving husband with a lewd grin on his face) since with BIOBLU I'm not that worried housewife any more, but a totally relaxed partner and mom. In reality, "Cindy" is Mae, she lives in DEF, she uses BUMBUM for washing, she is a single divorced parent and her kids are on dope. BIOBLU clutters your washing machine and no washing powder can get rid of tomato stains. Mae doesn't care how her images are used, since acting is a part-time job. Whoever knows Mae in person knows she is not "Cindy". Advertising/endorsing/storytelling is a carnival with masks. Modeling too.

As for the example of "identity theft" you gave, I'm afraid to say that on the brief information you've given I don't think they've done anything wrong. Well maybe it's probably not the full story, but at first sight it looks like proper use. Models are actors and impersonators. Whatever their own beliefs or values, they can and will be used to promote products or services or even political/religious ideas in the area of political/religious marketing, that they don't personally endorse. Their identity can't be stolen since they sold it. If you can't stand the heath, stay out of the kitchen.I'm always telling that to models, and they are cool with it. I think it's the moral obligation of a photographer to explain to models that their images are a torpedo that left the ship, and there is no way to call it back. I also leave models totally free to refuse scenes and concepts, and I never pressure anybody to model. No problem, my list of candidates is much longer than I can handle in a century. The only thing I'm strict about is the model's privacy. I would be terribly mad if an agency disclosed name/address/telephone to a customer of the images.

So if I am getting this right, you recommend to a photographer to have a PC for having the privilege of workflow automation via BAT files??? I didn't recommend anything. It was just an answer to your statement that automatic tasking on the OS level was impossible under Windows. I remember scripting tools around, like the Wise install, and most install packages, but didn't use them after 2002. In general, if there is a need for tasks under Windows, some guy will have written it, mostly for free. Come on people, we all know it's true ! Windows are very poor os and linux (although powerful) cannot be used by professionals (I am talking about creative artists right now) for many reasons. By " we all" you mean " I". Nice to meet a Mac-fundamentalist I knew it when this thread started Well whatever gets your job done is fine. Be happy with your Mac, I'm happy with my PC, since it runs Photoshop well. Peace! What I am trying to say is that apple is offering the best solution around for artists and this is why you see the majority of them to chose their products. As simple as that Yes, very simple. Isn't life simple for people that stick to their beliefs, unchallenged by facts? One of those facts is that the PC-Windows has 90% of the market. But of course, those Windows-slaves have a very low IQ and they are all terribly misguided by not embracing the true religion of Mac. As for me, I'm a Mac-infidel. Again, peace! Need to do some work now

Don't shoot against the sun, but with the sun in your back for stock. The main element in your photo has to be brightly lit. Don't shoot buildings through branches.

If you need to print for display, for example, which would be the best format to save your work? and at what resolution? for 8by10 or 8.5by 11 Print is a totally different question. It depends on how they print it, by what technology. The last quarter of 2008 I did some fashion work and they needed posters for shops in malls. It was printed on a giant inkjet and they wanted the TIFF, but no noise reduction whatsoever. For some reason the natural sensor noise looks much better on print than on a screen. Maybe it has to do with the paper or inkjet grain taking over in smooth gradients. Colors and luminance looks different on a screen than on paper. A printerguy will take your TIFF and then tweak the image to look best on a poster. It's their job... In general, for print your image should look too light on a screen.

The incongruity of the 1 year on Pixmac restriction the fact that I have no exclusive obligation for the image and the Fotolia / Pixmac symbiosis could cause the universe to implode. My bet is that they are just a nice bunch of enthusiasts that will discover all these complications on the way. They really didn't think at first about the 2 years, they didn't research the policies on the leading microstock sites thoroughly enough as they simply knocked it to 1 year after a forum post. I wish them the best of luck but deep down I have this luckyoliver yay snap feeling. Update: the difference between Albumo and Pixmac is 400 - 365 = 35 days. Albumo could be canceled by email, Pixmac needs to be canceled by a registered letter to Czechia. Any sales can be done thru FT. Their own sales will be like YAY, SV, Albumo. Conclusion: I'll pass and upload all to FT.

There is absolutely no way to automate the operating system, simply because it doesn't support it! System wide batch has been around as long as there are computers, long before the time of PCs and MACs. IBM had it, DEC had it, Linux still has it. You can do it in Windows too if you really want it, but in command mode. The batch files with commands have the extension "BAT". Never used it after DOS though, so I can't comment on the ease of use under Windows. I can imagine there are batch tools for Windows around in the vast pool of Windows software. Just have a look at Tucows. Ps. I have a friend of mine that is actually typing simple text on photoshop just to print it out. Ok, the logic -> Go with what you know is not always right... If it works for him and he only has to do it once in a while, it's right. If the text is with effects, like shadows and bevels, it's the only way as far as I know. If it's simple text, he could use OpenOffice of course. The right tool to nail a spike is a hammer, but if it happens you have no hammer around but a rock and you just need to nail one spike, it's faster to use that rock. Of course you can lecture that person how much more handy a hammer would be, but by the time you finished your lecture and he ran to the shop for a hammer, he could have nailed in 100 spikes. If he had to nail in 100 spikes every day, a hammer might be a better idea.

Portable Network Graphics is a non-lossy bitmapped image format, created to improve upon and replace the GIF format (copyrighted by Compuserve). PNG supports palette-based (palettes of 24-bit RGB colors) or greyscale or RGB images. PNG was designed for transferring images on the Internet, not professional graphics, and so does not support other color spaces (such as CMYK). It is unfit to represent quality photos. TIFF and BMP is better, especially with (non lossy) compression like ZIP. PNG has a "transparent" color but what is really needed is a format that contains an alpha channel (transparency) so we could get rid of the overwhites and the clipping paths for isolations.

I suppose it could be a problem if you aren't near your computer or a blackberry? I live most of the time in a semi-war zone with 60% poverty (<3 $ daily). Walking around with a blackberry is nice for Obama in the White House, but not exactly clever in a place like the Bronx I just hope on the automatic thing. Can't imagine that a designer with an hourly wage that is a multiple of the bargains he could make (a few dollars) would put time in dealing.

Hmm... yes it can do batch processing but not system-wide (operates only on files, cannot send an automated filtered-based email or distribute files to a network for example) see my example to understand what I mean.... I read it. In general, I'm a bit reluctant to do complicated steps in batch. I like to see what I'm doing. But you is not me, and if you have to perform that workflow often and you know it works fine on a Mac, it's obvious you use a Mac for it. Time is money. You would probably lose a lot of time switching to a PC and having to go through a steep learning curve to perform the same. It's the same reasoning as to GIMP, Photoshop and Lightroom. People tell me all the time GIMP can do the same, it's free, and Lightroom is better. Well, I know my way in Photoshop and I won't lose time on learning another workflow to basically just do the same.

I was emailing them and was told to upload all our images and they would make sure there was no duplicates coming from Fotolia.... when you upload your images with them, it dominates the Fotolia images on their sites I am guessing. It's reasonable that Fotolia doesn't want its shots on Pixmac too, since that would be pure competition. Sublicensing gives Fotolia indeed part of the commission. It's nice that Pixmac wants to sort out what's where, but I just checked and Fotolia accepts about 70% of what I upload. That means that on my small port of about 1,000, I will only have 300 left for Pixmac and that's not enough images for the incentive. Pixmac has been very forthcoming to lower its locked-in period to one year, but it's still double of what market leaders like DT ask for. It will also prevent you to sell the rights on DT, something very rare, but it might happen. Considering all this, I won't upload to Pixmac for the moment, but I will upload all I have on FT. Just discovered I only had 300 images there, probably because the category system is such a pain. If Pixmac takes off selling soon, we get part of the pie anyways by having our images on FT. The incentive only works for those that aren't on FT (and who don't plan to go there) or have more than 500 rejects at FT.

I have quite some "negative" images, like goth, addiction, and especially homelessness, negative emotions etc... They simply don't sell at commercial microstock. Quite obvious, who could use that kind of imagery to endorse a product or a service? They do well at Flickr and Deviantart. One exception though. I had a surge in downloads of my desperate/flabbergasted businessmen in suits the last months.

Finally, is it possible for anyone to find me a way to automate a batch procedure WITHOUT having to spend more money on 3rd party software? The new Irfanview (free) does a lot of that. I'm not sure about the color space but you can write a Photoshop action for it.

I don't honestly grab how it works. Looks cumbersome to me. Do you really have to log in twice per day to check your "deals"? What if you log in just now and then? Designers are impatient and want the image now. Can't sales just be automatic?

SS is aware, and I sitemailed istock. Hopefully they can get something done. This is by far the largest redistribution of illegally redistributed images that I've ever come across. Nah, everything you can dream of is available on rapidshare. They call it sharing. Admit, the name alone gives such a warm feeling One of the sharers complained on their forum: good share, shame the kids look so dated. why do they dress these american kids up in such old and bad fashions...I know most Americans get clothes from Walmart, but these fake stock kids would be a last resort for any client job....thanks for upload....but I need REAL pictures of REAL people.not just badly dressed models....I see a gap in the market!!!Stock Photographers - any balls, ??!!??

I also got your generic model release. The one I used up to now got rejected in dreamstime because it didn't have the phone number of the model Yes DT can be very strict on that. I got a release rejected once because the witness name was not in print. Make sure all names are in print writing. For now, I fill out all myself, except the signature. Girls tend to have tiny handwritings and when you resize the MRF, it might become unreadable.
