WHAT? That's the only reason I went ahead and joined so if it was a slow site, as everyone mentioned, I'd still get my payout without having to wait forever. Those slow site sit in limbo forever when they don't get sales. I guess we can't do any thing to change it.

Wow, thanks for all the responses you gave.
We run a stock site, with a NZ twist. We do not allow subscribers for downloading x amount of images for $xx.xx - we work on a per sale basis.
But, after reading through here, I am thinking a bit more now, perhaps there is something with offering subs on our site, I would need to get good feedback from the photographers about it, at the moment, they get $30 per digital image sold, so getting a drop down to $2 or $3 might be hard to swallow, however they will also get the higher turnover as well......
Food for thought anyway.
Unless you want a stampede of mad photographers.....I wouldn't suggest sub sales. If you read the majority of posts on this forum, you will notice the thing that makes a microstock photographer madder than anything IS sub sales. That's what's breaking the industry. Think twice.

drgogineni.....as for the ISO...you need to set the camera to that ISO. When you first get you camera everything is set on automatic so the camera sets the ISO automatically. You need to get your owners manual and find the section on how to set the ISO under your menus. Also Nikon makes a 50mm that you can pick up fairly cheep. Here's a good link to Nikon lens reviews http://www.photozone.de/Reviews/overview#nikon_apshere's a link to a good cheep lens dealer www.keh.comI picked up a 50mm 1.8 fairly new for 115. here

I don't want to leave out IS, this is the best I could do:
Glad to help.
We're sorry, but we did not find this file suitable as stock. With the rapid growth of the iStock collection, we give valuable consideration to each file but unfortunately cannot accept all submissions.
I haven't had many, but the rejection reason does exist.
To sum it up....they are saying in a kind way.."We don't want the photo because the stack is already to high and we can no longer reach the top"

I haven't reviewed the shots but was reading your replies to the rejections. One thing I noticed you are talking about high ISO's. You'll get better quality if you shoot at ISO 100. That's what I always shoot at and if these are outdoor shots then there would be no reason but to shoot at ISO 100.

I agree that copyright theft is illegal. Ivan wasn't saying it was legal or that he did it. What I believe he was trying to say was that when you have no money and you can not afford or your government does not allow you access to software that could better your education, then most of the people there turn to pirated software. I don't know what it is like to live in a third world country, but I can also understand his point. Now just to clarify....I don't think copyright infrequent is legal and I don't think he does either he's just trying to explain why it is done where he lives.

Hi Everyone!
I just wanted to let you all know that we are now able to process payments to our Featured Artist Community via Payoneer. Previously we were able to only pay through PayPal.
I know this was an issue for some of our artists and some of you who were interested in joining us.
As I've mentioned before in my posts throughout this thread, I'm very appreciative of the talented folks from MicrostockGroup that have joined our site.
Personally, I think we have a fantastic group of extremely talented people from all over the world represented throughout our various websites...and many of those artists have joined us as a direct result of the great group of people found here at MicrostockGroup. Hopefully with the addition of being able to use Payoneer to process payments, many more of you will give it a go too!
Thanks!
If they don't give it a go...they are missing out on some good income. I make more money off your site than I do from any one stock site and don't have to sell nearly as many to do it. Keep up the good work Tim

ELA ..... you need to contact support. You don't have to be logged in, the link is on the main page. Tell them what has happened and ask them to respond to you via your e-mail. I just closed my account last week and requested payout. They posted back to my account and e-mailed me saying to log in to get the answer. Just like others on here I wasn't able to get the answer because my account was closed. I contacted support on the main page and got the question's answer sent to my private e-mail....so contact customer support through the main page.
Have you even tried???

I read that some microstock sites weight the first few keywords more importantly in buyer searches. Is this true for Shutterstock?
I never paid attention to this and use Aperture 3 for my metadata. I was not paying attention until I read this but Aperture rank orders the keywords by alphabetization. Even though I placed the most relevant key words first, this program shoved many of them to the end of this list.
If Shutterstock does this weighting is it possible to reorder some of my existing photos?
Fotolia does it with first 7 keywords being most important and if you forget some keywords...forget about going in and adding them after they've been approved. You can't do it.

I am on alamy as well, but I don't think there is a need for total switch over. Pictures that you took which are very specific location, or copyright material, or newsworthy may sell better on alamy. However talking about the micros.
Shutterstock is a no brainer.. submit to them Istock. They have good earnings but I find it fairly laboursome to submit too. I still submit, but I grumble every time. I also find the 20 image/day upload limit a pain. Dreamstime- they have been good. not as good of a $/picture/year as Istock or shutterstock (which are about the same) but I have good income from them Bigstock, and Fotolia - they are about the same in earnings. Bigstock is a little easier to upload to I think, However Fotolia gives the .20 per accepted image which ads a fair bit.
I also submit everything to stockxpert and 123RF. Stockxpert takes 0 work to submit to... it is just a matter of letting your ftp uloader fun, then click 1 button to submit the 200 images you just uploaded (if you have embeded keywords and titles)... very simple. 123 RF is almost as easy as they don't have any catagories.... so i find uploading to them is generally well worth my time, despite the low earnings there.
I don't submit to feature pics... I haven't heard of much action there.. but if you hear different, I would be interested in knowing.
Anyone notice the today's post? "I also submit everything to stockxpert and 123RF. Stockxpert takes 0 work to submit to... it is just a matter of letting your ftp uloader fun, then click 1 button to submit the 200 images you just uploaded (if you have embeded keywords and titles)... very simple...." Talk about time warp...maybe he meant CanStock

A lot of the photos are of Indians. I found them in my grandmothers things in an old leather album. Are the Indians your ancestors? In either case, I don't find respectful to put them for commercial use, and perhaps even for editorial if this is something that somehow in their culture they would find disrespectful (possibly it isn't, but it's something I would consider).
Now, historical photos of places, that's another story. I have many photos of Rio that my father took - including the construction of the city's first skyscrapper - and that would be totally ok to sell. I wonder however if my brothers would not have rights over them too?
I don't know if the Indians are ancestors or not, several of them are shots of the chiefs of the Crow nation, but the studio shots are and many of them were already published in a book my grandmother wrote in 1964 so I don't quite get how that is morally wrong? Will the photos we take today and sale on microstock be morally wrong for someone to publish in 70 years? I may be misunderstanding what you are trying to say and if I am please explain.

Well I guess I'll try it. Besides the Indian photos I've got tons of studio shots from the 1800 Victorian era.

The photo's I'm referring to are not in the public domain. These are actual photos I own. My guess after reading this, is that the stock sites...micro...would probably want model releases on the dead people. A lot of the photos are of Indians. I found them in my grandmothers things in an old leather album. I haven't a clue who they are or rather it would be worth the trouble of scanning and uploading. I might try just a couple just to see if they make it through and rather they get any traffic if they do.

For some reason lately about half of the images that I submit get the "needs work" button due to a lack of color profile. I have the same problem. Perhaps it's a glitch on Veer? Never had it before. I also don't know how to add a color profile on site since I export JPG color profile included.
Me too, but when I click submit it goes on through. I didn't even know what that meant til now.

Alamy has them up to it's eyeballs, multiples of the same images from various sources.
Once something arrives in the public domain, chance's are (with lots of specific exceptions) it's fair game.
Interesting topic
Oldhand
That's why I was asking because I have seen these pictures online. I've never tried it and I have a s*** load of studio photos from the 1800's....even some Indian photos. Just wonder if they would sell.....of course some of the stock sites would probably reject them for lack of MR....lol

I just went in and tried "man", first click on search provided nothing, second time nothing, third time over 6000, forth and fifth nothing, seventh and eigth got results. Very strange and random.
Exactly. Random and intermittent. Unreliable. Yes, Donding, BIG problem for buyers. I'll go see if anyone has reported on DT forum and if admin has acknowledged.
I clicked on your port and it went to your main page but "no images found" under your port, same thing with mine. I sent customer service a note about it, hopefully they are already aware of the problem and working on it.

Has any one contacted Dreamstime about this? That "glitch" can be very costly to us as well as Dreamstime. I wouldn't keep hitting the search button if it didn't work the first two times....I'd go somewhere else.

Has anyone ever had any luck selling old 1800 scanned photos or can you even do it since you aren't the photographer?

You need to try to get a hold of Chad. Try through the customer support on the main page if you have to. They are suppose to pay you the money owed. From what I understood, Chad said, they will issue 1099's rather you withdrew the money or not. I don't know if this relates to you, but Chad told me they make final payout if you close your account rather it was to the payout limit or not, so keep on them. I just ask to have my account deleted last week and still am waiting for a reply. They withheld taxes on me at the beginning of the year for my screw up, but they HAVE to pay you that money especially if they give you a 1099 or withheld taxes. Otherwise they'll have the IRS on their back.
A 1099 whether you were paid the money or not? Sorry to be OT but I've having a hard time wrapping my mind around that.
Ok let me try to explain this. I don't know if you live in the US or not. The conversation I had with Chad had to do with them taking taxes out of my earnings. At the beginning of the year I hadn't filled out the ...I think it's called the W9....saying I was self employed. I told him I had not filled one out the previous year so I didn't think much about it. Of course as everyone knows that changed in 2010. Of course I went back and filled out the W-9. I ask him if he could credit the taxes withheld from my account and he said those taxes had already been paid to the IRS and they could not credit it back to my account. I then ask him about another concern about them withholding taxes when there was the possibility I wouldn't reach payout this year, therefore would not receive the monies and why I would be paying taxes on monies that were not yet received. He told me that they had many conversations with the IRS about this and that was the correct way to do it. I then ask him rather that means I would be getting a W-2 as well as a 1099 for the monies earned after I filled out the W9, even if I had not received the monies and he said yes I would get both. I then ask him how that would be handled if you closed your account and could not collect the monies owed because it was below the payout level. I told him that someone on here had been told that they could not collect the money owed them upon account closure because they had not reached minimum payout. He told me that they pay the monies owed, rather it be at payout level or not upon account closure and said that who ever was told that needed to contact him. That's pretty much a summery of the conversation. So from what Chad said you will get a 1099...at least for the US...so you need to ask for the money. As to rather they can legally withhold taxes on money which an employee, which would mean you if you didn't fill out the W-9, is legal I don't know and rather they can legally issue 1099's without actually paying the money...again I don't know if that is legal, but I would get a hold of Chad and tell him what is going on.
