Still getting a lot of files not going through via FTPP. Very frustrating.

I am getting so many misses when uploading via Filezilla. It's so hit and miss. One JPEG seems to get thrown into the "failed transfers" every time I try and it's a simple JPEG like any other. Why is this happening ?

That's great. Thanks for the tip off :-) I like the way you can upload more than one image at a time with easy key wording. Much quicker and less painful than IS. Now for some serious uploading. Not sure which is my home page though as it doesn't show all my accepted images. I need a landing home page where I can see everything.

All 9 images bar one were accepted. That's a good result.

Now then, I have just applied for dropping my exclusivity with istock. The images I have just had passed with SS, how do I stop them becoming live on the site before exclusivity expires ?

They have even started getting extremely picky with audio files (Sound effects in my case). This has never happened before but they reject a file for having certain keywords that are associated with the file. I don't know what they are playing at but cutting down keywords (every other site encourage as many as possible to associate the sound) will decrease sales.

Dec is looking to be the worst month if it carries on like this.

Well, so far Dec sales are terrible. Well below the usual busy run up to the end of the year.

Hi, I just wanted to point you in the direction of my blog if you haven't found it already.  I am a former iStock exclusive that left in October last year.  I have been blogging on independence with full earnings transparency every since.  It also links to a forum page - in one thread Doxadigital talked about a deal he came to with Shutterstock re asking to have his application accepted but put on hold to stop his images going live for sale before his exclusivity fell.  It might be useful for you:

Best of luck

Thanks, will look into it.

But staying exclusive at IS isn't rewarding. They don't accept images anymore AND they are not selling my images like they used to. Surely going with others would make up the pathetic sales at IS ?

Why should any of us care whether or not you are on it?

I'm not asking you to care. Good grief, the very thought of anyone being nice here  ::)

I have had images that made it through other submissions turned down next time round at SS. How on earth am I to read what to do from such inconsistency ? It's almost impossible. The only thing I will have to do is keep trying but someone there doesn't like me. A lot of my images are fine and folk here seem miffed why I am not on SS already.

General Stock Discussion / Moving on from IS exclusive
« on: November 30, 2011, 06:05 »
I am seriously thinking of dropping my exclusive with IS BUT I need to know if there are enough sites out there to make it worth my while. I am still in the process of trying to get into SS (about to be my 5th attempt) but I would like to know from experience if it is worth spreading your images out into as many sites as possible. The other thing about IS is I haven't submitted any images for about 13 months. I gave up after wasting a days shoot only to have them all turned down. Just a reason to pick up my camera again would be nice. My main income comes from Pro music/sound recording.

Sadly, it's time to move on from IS being the main earner for me as it no longer delivers. As an exclusive I feel they do not make it worth my loyalty, especially when they reject perfectly good, salable images.

Thanks.

Even with a nice EL boost to give me a head start at the beginning of the month, sales have fallen the last week or two and I am again well under what I should be. As a silver who can no longer get images passed, who hasn't bothered submitting any for well over 12 months I am going to drop my exclusivity at the end of this month and go with as many others as I can. Wow, I might be able to get into SS but that would be nigh on impossible after already 4 attempts.

If IS are doing so bad, how come they are ranking close to SS on this ratings list tier at 5.6 ? I don't get it.

Even after a really good EL to start the month off with a good head start push, I am starting to fall behind from what I usually get this time of year. Oh well, in a month I will sever this exclusive ball and chain to pastures more productive.

I sent them last time with model releases but I think I forgot this time DOH ::) Shame, as they failed last time on caption but had model releases. The funny thing is these images are accepted on Istock as sell.

Again, rejection on 4th attempt. I absolutely cannot fathom SS at all. Images that were accepted last time have been turned away.

It's a lottery and a waste of time waiting yet another 30 days. One shot with people needs a "proper caption" I have no idea what that means other than describing the image and what they are doing which is what I did. Technically I have submitted many images accepted BUT one reviewer's view is always going to be different making it inconsistent.

As reviewers are all different there are too many variables to know what is going to pass ???

Shutterstock.com / Re: Do I downsize to submit ?
« on: October 31, 2011, 02:46 »
No, there is nothing wrong with the quality of the images I am going to submit (some of them were ok in the last submission, I got 6 out of 10 and one was rejected on the basis of captioning which was a bit mean) It's just some advise I have been given in general.

I have my edited from Raw Jpegs. Do I downsize the Jpegs ? I use Raw Shooter Essentials and the Gimp. I could downsize in Picassa.

My sales this October have slowed right down the last few days to pathetic. As soon as I get to the end of November I am going to drop the crown and head for greener pastures with a lot of images that will sell well.

The pink elephant in the room has a loud megaphone, disco lights and still they ignore it.
