For me Istock seem to be on a gradual upward path if anything. Maybe any algorithm changes are working in my favour

Great post Mike!...I have even had agencies offering to buy the whole portfolio, only a few months back some clown obviously from some agency!...its all BS from the beginning to the end!
I tell you people and on this point i do agree with people like Laurin etc, etc. This business will just go further and further down the toilet until we start boycotting certain agencies who are the ultimate destroyers of this business!
You could make a start by pulling your port from Shutterstock.

How do you tag your photos there? It's very weird.

You have to do each one individually cant even copy paste...its very very time consuming

Had only one experience with Alamy quite a few years back but it was so bad I decided not to bother. Every when and then a report like this confirms and while they still send me their contributor mails, I was initially approved, such reports confirm to me to stay away. Personally I feel they have the worst attitude towards contributors I've experienced dealing with quite some of the major and lately also some newer companies.
One experience a few years back is not much to base an opinion on really. Even the best organisations get it wrong sometimes.

My advice now for new companies is to salary artists. Put their money into artists that they can sell. If they have a plan to make $100k off an artist that they pay $50k (or whatever the numbers), then they have a plan for the future. Otherwise, it doesn't seem like most new companies are going to have an impact anymore or be able to lure pessimistic artists.
The way I'd work it is to pay the contributor up front then use their earnings over time to pay back the advance. Not going to happen though. Unless someone comes up with a stunningly innovative site I can't see why anyone would contribute to a new site.
I got an upfront offer once. In hindsight, I should have taken it, but the market was still on the upswing then. I guess I just see the salary thing as one of the last frontiers. You see these existing agencies trying to discover and experiment with new revenue streams, but there are only so many directions they can go without having artists on staff.
From an agency point of view the commission system is genius. Nearly all the risk is taken by the contributors hence agencies can limp along on a shoestring selling almost nothing.

is there could be a keyword factor because the sales of adobe stock are very low comparison to shutterstock.
Sent from my SM-J200G using Tapatalk
This maybe true for you but not everyone. Shutterstock has been doing very well for me of late but Adobe is always a little ahead, normally by $200-$300 a month.
Different ports will do better at different agencies so everyone will have different experiences in terms of turnover between agencies
I get about 1/2 as much from adode than SS which if the poll on the right is about average...adobe though is showing steady growth for me...without climbing their rankings so overall they must be doing better.

Doesn't seem like they are sweating anything... which might not be good news for those of us that would like a little change for the better.
Also, did they say they bought a catalog of 1930's British society images? That sounds useful.
They've had it easy for too long adobe will be snapping at their heels soon they need to wake up to stay at the top

SS stock price has dropped more than 10%, despite all the fluffing of the collection. So ruining things for buyers and contributors hasn't made investors happy either. Sad all around.
"Shutterstock (NYSE:SSTK) drops 10.3% on Q3 results that beat EPS estimates but missed on revenue. Downside Y18 guidance has revenue from $625M to $630M (consensus: $633.81), down from the prior guide of $625M to $635M. Adjusted EBITDA guide was also tightened from $105M to $110M to $105M.
Key metrics: Paid downloads, 43.9M (+5% Y/Y); revenue per download, $3.40 (+5%); image collection, 221M images (+42%); video collection, 12M clips (+44%)."
https://seekingalpha.com/news/3402687-shutterstock-minus-10_3-percent-mixed-q3-narrowed-fy-guide?dr=1#email_link
This is the pattern the stock price gradually recovers on optimism until the next set of results which slightly fail to deliver. Away from the stock market though SSs results still show growth so its not nearly as bad for shutterstock as some would like to think. The number of downloads and revenue is still going up.

The concept of GL was actually brilliant! but leftovers aimed towards advertising and designers they chose micro which was totally wrong. They should have gone the RM/RF way instead! I know these guys very well and theyre a clever bunch but unfortunately when they started micro was already on a decline!
Not actually that clever then if they made a fundamental business mistake

I am sure in a not so far future, MS companies will exclude portfolios of people who were flooding databases with low quality images (hem, maybe the words crap images are often more adequate)... Customers are surely getting more and more exasperated with the dilution of the good images. Anyway, these practices are and will be a bad calculation for the efficiency of one's portfolio. Everything can move in microstock, in bad or good way.
My belief is they think intelligent search engines will in effect hide these images away....I just don't believe we've reached that point..as usual the hype about IT is a few years in advance of the reality.

Then they asked in both emails that "have you previously created a SS Contributor account ? ". I said no. Then my aunt's account and mine were terminated.
They gave you a chance to explain what you did with the two accounts and, for some reason, you didnt tell them the truth. Only after that, they closed your accounts. So what do you expect now? Why vent here, you should communicate with them. But Im afraid it may be too late. I dont understand why you didnt explain it to them when they asked..
Exactly.

The suggestions it gives are terrible if you are not a native speaker. I put in: Three apples isolated on white. It gave these as GOOD keywords:
fruit, raw, attractive, tasty, brown, macro, nutrition, plant, freshness, vegetarian, fashion, black, pretty, single, ripe, delicious, cute, leaf, hand, lifestyle, group, vegetable, snack, business, face, bright, concept, look, design, vitamin, gourmet, model, blue, summer, close, male, meal, cheerful, juicy, dessert, cut, decoration, colorful, close-up, style, cook, orange, lady, hold, care
'isolated on white' is terrible words in description. I did not remove such kind of words (there are some more like New York and Los Angeles) which are highly used over all trained descriptions. Thus, my engine tried to match 'three apples' and those apples can be found in lot of photos...
If you want a picture of three apples isolated on a white background it sounds a pretty good description to me

Yes they are stumbling along...I just upload my stuff there and leave it. Not worth the effort to keep monitoring and chasing. A once decent earner gone to pot.

I'm no mathamatician but I reckon that if SS QC spent ten seconds on each of this week's 1,410,450 new images it would take a full 163 days to complete the task!
So about 500 working days bout 120 staff ;-).

To be honest I thought the comment about a women's only section was somewhat tongue in cheek . I think its interesting though that a post pointing out what probably 95% of members consider ill judged at best has created such a vitriolic argument.
In this day and age, regarding this issue nothing is to be taken as tongue in cheek. In my country there are women claiming to have transports just for them. A measure that several countries have already taken.
In the past men only clubs have been forbidden, for now women only businesses and places to start creeping around.
At this very moment universities in my country, instead of being beacons of educated free thinking and progress, are battlefields where censorship of ideas and even thoughts gain alarming ground. Even common words are micromanaged and potentially reason for public shaming. Debates, instead of welcoming different ideas end up with attempts to stop the participation of some intellectuals just bacause they don't fit the PC norm.
The use of traditional expressions tend to create a lynching mob instead of an education action.
This politically correct movement, where every opinion is extremist, all black and white, no shades of grey, no tolerance, of lynching mobs and inquisition is starting to fracture society.
The result is the alarming growing popularity of conservative and authoritarian politicians, like Trump, Orban, Le Pen, Salvini, Bolsonaro, just to name a few recent ones.
You may think I'm overreacting, but watch the world, the timeline of this politically correct movement and connect the dots. So, sorry for not taking some things lightly.
What you say is extremely almost frightfully true!! just see the schitzophrenic reaction of a sentence I used which is a harmless saying! expression! all of a sudden a specific person thought I broke the rules of Metoo, political-correctness, the Koran, the bible, every religion under the sun!.." manic-panic"behaviour!
No point trying to explain anything sensible to these 6 people involved, they are lefty/lib and to them micro-stock is just a way of fraternizing with each other, score " likes" and talk behind peoples backs! most likes must be the most intelligent philosophy!...Yes its pityfull! they are a sad bunch!
Soon they will contact their friends and ask them to join in as well as always!..
Best thing we can do is just to leave this thread and not stoop to their level of ignorance and bewilderness. They are very confused!
The only one to mention their "friends" is you......
How can you react like this over a veil, Burka, Hijab etc, etc! its laughable! and I bet you wouldn't wear one if it came to it. All mouth thats all, just mouth!
Where have I said anything about Burkas?
Then why are you participating backing sexiest, racism remarks about a piece of clothing??
I haven't said anything about that. I just supported the point that insults based on the female menstrual cycle are offensive to many and that your so called apology was nothing of the sort which you have amply demonstrated.
female menstrual cycle? ?? what ARE you waffling about?
That was what your insult was about....
