StockXpert.com / Re: Down the Swanny.....
« on: June 12, 2007, 08:19 »
StockXpert is number 5 for me until now this year, after SS, IS, DT and FT, but so far in June, they have been very, very slow, with only two sales. BS and particularly 123 are breathing down their neck.

IS is up and down like a slow elevator. I've never understood what makes it move. April, which was bad on all other sites, was a record month for me at IS, but now it's down again, while most of the others are going up.

After a weak April, I'm back on schedule with SS. May will be a new record month (like all previous ones except April), and I end up almost 20% above March.

This is in spite of very modest uploads in May, but I did upload photos of higher quality than before.

Adobe Stock / Re: What's your rank?
« on: May 23, 2007, 04:48 »
Rank 1332, 7 days goes up and down. Sold 372 images in 10 months.

Not my favourite site, and will be passed by StockXpert soon I think.

was going like that then all of a sudden May came along and turned everything on its head, better sales at SS and IS has more than halved compared to April.

Same here. Strange thing with IS is that I sell the same photos over and over again, while on all other sites, my sales come from a much broader selection. That may of course have something  to do with the upload limitations on IS, which means that many of the top-sellers from other sites haven't been uploaded at IS, and some have been rejected (for all kind of funny reasons).

Although IS is still the third best for me, it's very up and down, as sites like StockXpert, FT and even 123RF are closing in. SS seems to be unbeatable. Increased sales and increased payment per sale. What more could one wish for?

General Stock Discussion / Re: Payments by check
« on: May 21, 2007, 19:55 »
Everything considered, Moneybookers seem to be the best choice for very many outside USA. They are very safe, their charges are minimal, and they work much more similar to a normal bank if compared to PayPal. There are some horror-stories around PayPal, and although it only affects a few, most of them seem to be real.

I've used Moneybookers for a year now, simply because there are too many problems using PayPal where I live (Thailand). They are officially supported here, but that's only officially.

It's like the never ending PC vs. Mac discussion. One has all the bells and whistles, the other one just works. For me at least.

Cameras / Lenses / Re: Looking for a Good Point & Shoot
« on: May 21, 2007, 19:41 »
An important question is if you need an optical viewfinder or not. Not many of the small ones have one, the excellent Fuji F31 being one of those. Canon G7 and A640 are both good, and I recently tried the Nikon P5000 which impressed me a lot. Almost DSLR ergonomics in a pocket sized camera (much smaller than the Canons). The review of the Nikon was somewhat mediocre at dpreview, but if you can live with the slow focus, it's absolutely something to consider. It also has VR (IS in Canon-speak) and a hot-shoe.

You can't, what's stopping you, does the company check?

I don't think they do. It's quite a nice system actually, although very basic in many respects, like the design of the website. Only wish they had a more balanced view on micros. Travel photography and all kinds of exotic images seems to be their strongest side. Just the kind of images that won't sell well on micros anyway. I guess "young-lady-with-headset-isolated-on-white" won't sell too well there, but you never know.

Should you sell anything there, you have to take care of invoicing, money transfers etc. yourself.

You're grouping them all together in one big mess.

Of course he is. It is one big mess. The teddy-bear thing is mostly well known now, but still, nobody have been able to explain to me why a generic teddy-bear, which by nature is a traditional, generic design, should have a stronger protection than a mobile phone, which has recently been designed by an artist or designer, and which is currently being marketed by some corporation.

This is a tasteless power-play by some of the industrial giants that is often approaching mind-control. They allow themselves to push their designs, logos and marketing up our noses through advertising and TV commercials 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, making themselves a prominent part of our lives. But the moment we take photos of that life and try selling it, it's suddenly their private property again.

While they are apparently in the clear from a legal point of view, it makes me wonder who owns my life.

Dreamstime.com / Re: New DT Search Engine Sucks!
« on: May 15, 2007, 20:34 »
My sales at DT increased enormously until March, but in April, they fell more than 30%, and the number of downloads in may seem to end at the same level as in April. This is in spite of the fact that I have had new images approved that have helped increase sales at all other agencies.

Some of my best-sellers at DT haven't had a sale in weeks. A very disappointing development. What saves the situation somehow, is relatively good payments for EL's and some vectors, but if the volume isn't there, DT's glory is bound to fade, at least in my case.

While I like the layout and concept of LO a lot, after six months, my commissions there are lower than those at stockphotomedia ant featurepics, the other bottom-feeders among those I upload to. I suspect that even Crestock will make me a millionaire before I reach my first payout at LO.

Is it only me, or do others feel the same???

Cameras / Lenses / Re: Amazon has Canon IDs MkII at $6900
« on: May 14, 2007, 11:38 »
Not surprising, with the much cheaper 1DIII on the market that, in spite of the lower pixel count, is a far superior camera, and the rumoured release of the 1DsIII this autumn.

For that money, I think I would have gone for a 1DIII plus a 5D though. Much more bang for the buck.

914
Very good. Just in case something happens, or if I need one of my images while not on my own computer. It's particularly useful with 123rf, since they have a high acceptance rate, which again means that I have one of my largest portfolios there. That can not be said about StockXpert.

« on: May 08, 2007, 18:37 »
I got a reply from MB today, I indeed can not withdraw money if not to a personal bank account.  There must be some logic behind it, although I don't understand what this could be, if money would still be delivered to me personally.

Anyone in UK: is it possible for a non-resident to open a bank account?  I emalied Barclays, but they say they can't give this information by email.  :/
Regards,
Adelaide

Adelaide,
The account could be in any country. As long as there's a card connected to it, you can get the money out wherever you are.

The reason why it has to be a personal bank account, is that they wire transfer to that account, like a traditional bank transaction. For security reasons, they only accept transfers to approved, pre-defined accounts. The approval routine is a bit awkward, but it's very basic, and will work with any bank account, unlike PayPal, who requires a credit card and a higher level of acceptance from the receiving bank.

Dreamstime looked like going through the ceiling for me up until March, but April was very disappointing, even considering easter, and May hasn't started particularly well either, at least not compared to others.

They could try a new slogan:
"You don't like money? Try Crestock. Low on sales, high on rejects."

Sounds like a success, doesn't it?

Yes its within minutes from stocksites to moneybookers, but some of the sites take upto 2 weeks to process your cash-out/earnings request.

Yes, it's a headache sometimes. I try to time all payments so that they arrive around the same time as SS between the third and fifth of each month, and my own monthly payments around the same time, but sometimes, one or two has to wait for another month before I can get to the money.

Paypal debit card?? What's that?

How much time does it take on average for sites to transfer money to MB and how much time from MB to bank?

Regards,
Adelaide

Transfers from the agencies to MB apparently goes within hours. From MB to my bank here in Thailand takes 2-3 days at the most.

Since the transfer can be initiated from any internet-connected computer in the world, the money is available to me for use with a card wherever I am. Very nice system  :)

Adobe Stock / Not approved yet, but sold twice
« on: May 08, 2007, 00:11 »
This is a funny one: one of the images that I submitted to FT last week, and is still in the approval queue, sold once yesterday and again today, to two different customers. How is that possible? I can't even see the page for the photo, only the small thumbnail.

923
I found the Instructions field. It's under IPTC Status. But there's nothing there on images that I've submitted ti IV, at least not the batch that I submitted last week.

It would also be totally unacceptable if IV had software that could write IPTC in files that I have on my computer.

924
Now you had me worried, but I can't find the "Instructions" field. How do you see it?

925
I've had a rocket start with most agencies this month, and for CanStockPhoto, it has improved greatly the last two months. It may be because they are doing a better job, but I also think the market for microstock in general is increasing fast. Among other things, I notice that downloads during European business hours have increased a lot.
