CB is simply greedy scumbags. Their actions, or lack thereof, simply show who and what they are.  A revenue machine with zero tolerance for copyright law.

"We will only consider deactivating files for legal or similar justifiable reasons as it provides a negative experience for customers when files are suddenly unavailable for license."

If I got that reply, I'd respond with:

Well it's not a legal issue just yet, but as I've revoked my permission for you to host my copyrighted images on your site, it could quickly become one if you don't remove them at your earliest convenience. Hopefully that's justifiable enough for you.

You have to remember that they were very clear about their policy for deactivating images prior to going live with that promise.  Helloitsme or anyone else will get the same response unless their request is to close my account with a 30-day notice. But I'm sure you knew that.

I wonder what a MARKETPLACE to a PLATFORM means.

I got locked up in iStock prison.  I requested them to delete all my photos, but they replied they won't.  It's like once you are in, you are in for life mafia kind of deal.  It's ridiculous.
What? They refused let you cancel your contract, as per their terms?
What exactly did they say?

Did you ask to deactivate all your files, or to end your contract with them?

You don't work for iStock, right?  If you do, they may end my contributor membership if I post something negative.  Wait a minute, that's actually a good thing!!

I requested to delete all my photos and here's their reply.

"We will only consider deactivating files for legal or similar justifiable reasons as it provides a negative experience for customers when files are suddenly unavailable for license."

You cannot deactivate all of your images, you have to go for the whole tamale and ask to close your account. It's all or nothing.

$12 is very rare. Try $6-$7 each and there is not much volume.  I no longer upload my video there.

Image Sleuth / Re: A DIFFERENT thief on colourbox
« on: February 26, 2017, 10:52 »
Microstock is basically the wild wild west now. Anybody can upload anything, even if they arent the copyright holder. What do the agencies care? It just increases their chance for a sale, and they are ONLY interested in money. Just one more industry ruined by greed.

There is the trend, of course, that ports only seem to be taken down we someone makes a stink of it.  However, there are so many images and it is probably expensive to put in staff just to verify port ownership...on a completely on-going basis.  I can see both sides of this debate. I'm not a techie, however, so perhaps there's another automated way.

I made $2-$4 a month, rarely $10.  I close my account.

Same here.  I was making payout at $200 or so per month four months ago, now I am down to $50-$75 a month.

PhotoDune / Re: What a "nice" surprise
« on: February 20, 2017, 09:32 »
Envato is a garbage company. It's been fairly obvious for years. Even some of the voices here that shamelessly defended them in the past, their loyalty rewarded by having their image portfolios deleted and a middle finger. This is why it's bad to support garbage companies, even if you're making a few bucks in the short term. I don't think there's anyone not part of the Envato employees and volunteers team defending them anymore.

What's really sad is that tons of people will come right back to whatever the next pile of crap they try to pull happens to be.

Anything specific that makes you think they're garbage? Aside from the recent PhotoDune thing of course, as I'm assuming you felt that way before that.

1. Their "niche" (with Videohive) is undercutting the leading stock videos sellers, devaluing stock videos in general in the process.

2. They are intentionally misleading potential new contributors by first stating flat out that "Our author fee to non-exclusive authors is 55% of the item price." then going on to show a pie chart that shows "net author earnings" are actually as low as 36%. Working with a company that feels comfortable to unnecessarily convolute the math this way is certainly suspect.

3. Their method of dealing with their own failures in the stock photo business is to kick most of their loyal contributors to the curb, regardless of the time and effort put forth by those contributors. Again, just evidence of their lack of care towards the ones creating and keywording the content that makes up their library.

We all know iStock is a terrible company. We should know by now that Envato isn't much better, by their behavior and lack of ethics. Contributing to them as an individual isn't going to end the world, of course, much like throwing your fast food trash out the car window into a pristine forest isn't going to either. But both show a lack of respect for the greater good, your fellow humans, and should be discouraged.

Yeah, yeah, I know some people make a few bucks there. So do people that rob old ladies on the street. Doesn't make a * difference in determining if these companies are good or bad for the industry as a whole.

Encourage and promote the good companies, and let the bad ones fail. This is our only power.

1. They've been around for ten years and it's not like there's been a massive rush at SS or iS to drop HD files to $8. The market is big enough for multiple sites to exist at multiple price points.

2. The list price is the price that the item is sold for. The item price is the list price, minus the buyer's fee. It's not the clearest structure, but it's not exactly hidden either. The fact the pie chart shows $36 from a $100 sale demonstrates that. 'Confusing' would probably be more accurate than 'misleading', but all the information is there.

3. Maybe a valid point, but maybe a fresh start is what they needed. Their experiment with Unstock showed that a different approach could result in a massive increase in revenue per image, both for Envato and for the authors.

LOL.  That sounds like every canned statement an agency makes when they are lowering prices or cutting commissions; "we expect this to result in Shangri-La for everyone".

General - Stock Video / Re: The importance of thumbnails
« on: February 18, 2017, 12:03 »
If I can set my thumbnails, I do. I think when a buyers is browsing a bunch of video thumbs if mine stands out it has a better chance. Sometimes the thumb does not represent the content.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: File was returned for revision
« on: February 17, 2017, 19:36 »
Whatever is going on is a massive fail.  I uploaded a number of landscape images that are being rejected for property release required. Here's one of them. I did upload it again. We'll see what happens.  But I got at least 20 rejections for "needs property release" for other landscapes images.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Sales stopped at Videoblocks?
« on: February 17, 2017, 08:46 »
I'm seeing my third month of "regular sales", which is VERY unusual.  As I have stated several time in the past, I typically get a flood of sales 8-10 in a month then silence for two more months.  The cycle has been repeated with predictability until November.  It's a mix of what is selling, animations and regular video.  Not complaining but it almost feels like the Dreamtime model where they cycle placement to give everyone a fair shot at sales.

Anyone else having problems with the new IM? When I click on a submission in the left column it says there are 0 images! It's the same for all submissions. It worked a couple of days ago.

Sorted, had images not for sale as a filter!

I can't even upload. 30 minutes for three files. I killed my upload. I will wait until they fix things.

OK. My brain hurts.
So does anybody really have an idea what percentage we get???
:(

I emailed them two days ago and asked specifically what their commission was.  They (Duncan) would not tell me. We had a back and forth until I gave up.  They definitely don't want to be transparent.

I've always said no to RAW requests - there are a bazillion reasons why not to do it unless you're selling all rights and for a large amount of money :)

That is the only reason in my opinion.

They also do not show you the sale price on CSV sales reports, only your commission. I suspect that is intentional.

Video Equipment / Sofware / Technique / Re: Video Tripod
« on: February 10, 2017, 20:39 »
For video. Just got a Manfrotto 290 Xtra for $225us. Extends 5'4". Light. Smooth head for panning and tilting. Fairly long arm. Traditional set-up. Would advise checking out tripods with camera in hand to test out and see what suites you best.

I'm done with Manfrotto. Some of their components keep cracking. They are $50 to replace. I just replaced one eight months ago and the new part cracked again just from sitting in my garage. Cheap pot metal for a $700 tripod. Contacted customer support and al they did was link me to their component site to purchase another spare. FK THEM.

I am not back in the market for a video tripod but also want a very good, study one I can use for time lapse in addition to panning.

Got a response from Alamy and they said they've been tweaking things for the new system. The keywords should work fine with no spaces according the them and as Tawng pointed out.

Are these all from this week?
The batch I uploaded last week have the comma then a space, as I 'managed' them as usual (on the 19th).
Maybe it changed since then (?).

Yes, from yesterday.

Alamy.com / Keywords crunching
« on: January 23, 2017, 20:03 »
Has anyone noticed that the keywords on the Alamy site show up with the space missing? I have not seen this before. Can anyone tell me if I can leave them as is and be assured that they will work or do I need to go put back in the space between each key word? Right now it's one long jumbled word with commas separating each word.  I have 140 images I uploaded and do not want to go re-edit a boat load of keywords.

Ive been at this for about five months and had decent stock footage sales on top tier sites. But Im yet to have a single sale on 123RF.

What are your experiences out there with footage sales on 123RF? and how long do most of you go without sales before deciding to no longer upload content to a site?

For stock footage, no.  I have over 1,000 videos there and rarely get a sale. Maybe I don't have the right content for the customers they target, but it is VERY rare I get a sale.

Alamy.com / Re: New at macrostock
« on: January 22, 2017, 09:34 »
Not much really, except they don't take everything you throw at them.

Do you mean even on earnings? I knew on microstock....cents for images...while in macrostock even thousand for one image. So in microstock many sales instead on mAcrostock few sales. Am I wrong???

Stop dreaming about earning a thousand for an image. While it is not completely impossible, it is very improbable. Macrostock license prices collapsed the last decade, IMO mainly due to the advent of microstock agencies.

I agree with you wholeheartedly.  Even sales I used to get in the $700 range are all gone.  Haven't had a a sale like that for quite some time.  Alamy is a classic example. Used to sell well there and make much more years ago, but now they've been hit hard by micro stock (at their own admittance).  Sales are fewer and a lot less of them. I'm still signed up for Novelty Use and rarely see any off those sales anymore.

123RF / Re: 123rf payment?
« on: January 19, 2017, 09:15 »
I got paid last week.  Not much, though, as my revenue magically got cut in half four months ago (from about $180 to $80) and has never recovered.  Probably a search change.

I believe SS will get it done. It's really how fast is what this discussion is about...oh and the &$%&#) crooks who do this.  My biggest issue asides from the copyright infringement itself is that these images erode the original artists income and also those of other worthy, honest, hard working competitors. To me it's more than stealing work, it's the affect on ones income.

I agree with whomever said something like this earlier.
