Show of hands .. how many people have ever forked over the $25 for a yearly copy of the photographers market ... and actually used it Don't like $0.25 sales then take business into your own hands .. you don't have to belong to a single agency micro or macro or whatever to pull in bigger sales ... but it takes motivation and you have to treat it as a career. Treat photography as a hobby and you'll bring in a hobby income which is nobodys fault but your own. Face it people, no matter how many "pro shooters" become contributors microstock will always be at the bottom of the barrel in the overall photography industry .. that's where it was designed to be and that's where it belongs .. take it for what it is.
Maybe you threat photography as a hobby, maybe someone don't, that isn't matter... Professional quality cost more in every business... Is important that big companies do not use our images for their hobbies, they use for their promotional purposes on their web sites... So, subscription plan can remain as a kind of an offer in Microstock, but RF licenses HAVE TO be quite different for any kind of business promotion, not strictly commerical... Is a big difference between example in my first post here and some student's blog.... I'm not happy when I see my picture (my 25 cents) at the site of some large corporation, where 2-inch near ad-space cost thousands of dollars...

Thanks Lefty for support! Others too, Lisa, Sjlocke etc.. @Sljocke Excellent metaphor Question: What is worse, few rejected images for our promotion on some free site, or whole portfolio for a few cents or peanuts?

Before microstock, how many of us earned ANYTHING from stock photos? I think that is something that many of us lose sight of on a regular basis.
We all wish that we made more per sale. However, compared to making nothing, what the sites pay us is much better!
No no no and no! What was the quality of your images before microstock and now.!? They brought us up to commercial standards in photography, only because we can sell... Otherwise (if we had commercial standard before), we could easily sell through the traditional agency before Microstock... What is problem now? Customers buy a professional photography today on microstock, not amateur as microstock was conceived from the start... Because of that, there is too much big difference from price to quality in Microstock, that is problem... I hope that agencies see it, and We see that they slowly changing the rules, because they raise the cost of photographs, what gives hope to all of us... Cheap subscriptions remain as biggest problem for now...

But it hurts every day more and more...

I don't get what the problem is? Is it that they are using a ThinkStock image?
There is no problem, only cheap subscriptions are problem, nothing more... Big companies use pics for dollar, every day more and more, several years ago they needed to pay few zeros more for the same... Where is "big" difference for us, between my image on free site or my image under subscriptions...? Maybe free site brings more popularity for me than the subscription site, there I am just a one drop in the Ocean...

This is not bad at all! After all we've seen this before... Have you ever received promotional products like a shampoo, perfume or free alcoholic drink etc.? Also, You will to decide if you want to give a picture for free or not... That's it! P.S. But if you still feel bad, you can always go to the topic about Stockfresh, and be delighted and pleasantly surprised about the new agency!!! (Only for those whose memory is 3 months back ONLY, no more!!!)

From reading this thread it really looks like Peter and Andras have a lot of goodwill among contributors. Our memories are not so short that we have forgotten the days when they ran StockXpert and treated everyone fairly.
If they have similar residual goodwill among their former buyers that bodes well for their future success.
I don't know if the buyer list would be a trade secret or not. Even if they can't access the actual buyer list from StockXpert, with all the companies out there harvesting our contact info every time we buy anything online it would probably not be that difficult to get a list of regular microstock buyers. If they cast a wide net they will almost certainly manage to reach former StockXpert buyers, plus a lot of others too.
Yep! That was my intention to explain in my last posts! Also,,almost all of customers are already on the market, they need (again) to take their piece of pie!

It's a shame that some of us live in Europe, but when we registered we couldn't choose the zone at Fotolia. So, I registered in US zone, and later I couldn't change it.
Wouldn't be logical for credits to be the same for all?
Yep! I registered only because of English language... I didn't know that FT isn't unique... Sad!!!

I don't know all the details so hope you're right ... I have nothing against them, they were kind and friendly, but it would be big mistake for us to do again Sizif's job.

I do not know why you all are so happy ?
The same people sold their entire market and customers to Getty... You all weren't happy about it and greedy TS... Now they are working on a new project that will one day likely to sell to someone else, and you will again get the crumbs from table of "great new owner". Probably 0,10 $ per dl...
Is this a sadomasochistic ritual, or you simply forget quickly....?

In bubble dot.com ballon I saw P/E ratio bigger than 500 and more... Today you have bunch of companies (worldwide) with P/E ratio above 50...
But 15x isn't too much, because calculation isn't only with last year earning, that is average estimated earnings for several years, provided that every year will be 50% lower than the previous year...

You all talk about the risks, I am talking about the averages and the current state ... When you buy business or stocks, you buying it at the current state of the economy and markets...
The current state is that RPI increase, price increases, growth in the number of customers that still exceeds the growth in the number of photos ...
What will be tomorrow, or for a couple of years, who knows....

^^^ Stock images have little or nothing in common with the financial 'stock market'. You might just as well try to compare a portfolio's value with that of sheep, pigs and cattle in another 'stock market'. If pork futures are rising in price it doesn't mean the portfolio's value will be increasing too.
I think you are mistaken... I am on financial stock market for a more than 6 years constantly... Also, I am talking about average ratio (P/E) for all types of earnings through history... All markets throughout history breathe about 15 earnings for the total value.... This refers to approach when each job is considered like a factory of money, regardless of the business sector. But if you need better suggestion for right valuation, go to the Internet and find current P/E for Getty images... They have stocks on the financial stock market... Then the value will be : Getty's P/E * Average annual earnings for portfolio... What will be the annual average earnings for a portfolio, in which the period, depends on the assessment of the owner.... Yuri on his website has a good calculation for it ... From his experience ...

One of my files named "Coins" was rejected because "Finance" keyword...
You're seriously saying that was the only reason? One wrong keyword? No other rejection reasons further down the email? No other words listed? Seems unlikely, and if it is true you should post it in the keywords forum at iStock because it's an error.
I thought it was an error, so I re-uploaded and then passed... But I have noticed more and more "bugs" with keywording, friend told me that IS refused his file for the same keyword...

That's an extraordinarily complex way of basically saying '2x annual earnings'.
Hehehehe! Isn't complex too much.. I just want to explain how to calculate " The value of business" ... Generally speaking, stock prices are spinning (in the history ) of about 15 average annual earnings ...

You can have approach similar like in business or stock market... Average P/E (price/earnings) is 15 for stock market in global, this means that each company is worth 15 of their average annual earnings...
If we calculate 50% drop in earnings every year (maybe this is too much but customer wants a premium on his offer) that is: 50+25+12,5+6,25+3,125+1,56+0,78+0,39+,019+0,09...= cca $100K

For me, it wasn't so much the time of upsizing, I also use an action for that. It's the whole new workflow and the taking of yet more space on my hard drives. Yes, and now I can get rid of the "Alamy" folder!
Not if u only have a 10MP camera !! Still need a separate folder and some up-sizing !
I don't think so - surely a 10MP image is about 28MB, uncompressed?
Right!!! 10MPx pic has TIFF 8bits about 28MB

Thanks for the info borg. I'll check it from time to time. For now, there are no any changes in my account. Regards, Ivan
Really! Maybe they are not over yet! I had payout last month, and now my month total is equal to Gross... I 'll try to find topic on SS... P.S. Found it! Problem with money left over from the other monthhttp://submit.shutterstock.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=81573&highlight=grossFrom support letter on the 4th page of topic... What changed, and why? - Previously, the gross earnings on your Download Stats page reflected your total earnings since your last payment, plus your previously withheld taxes. Now we show only your total earnings since your last payment. We believe this new figure is a more convenient way to keep track of your actual earnings.

They changed it yesterday I think!
Now, we have gross earnings equal to the earnings this month (if you had payout last month)... It means that gross earning is without ex. monthly taxes...
Check it in your stats if MONTH TOTALS=Gross earnings...
There is topic about this on SS forum, but I can't find it anymore...
Regards!
