Microstock News / Re: Zoonar with new, fresh design
« on: December 09, 2015, 05:32 »
I think I remember seeing that their RM is more like RF.  It's confusing and if it also confuses buyers, that might explain why they sell so little directly.

Shutterstock.com / Re: 723,027 new images added this week!
« on: December 09, 2015, 05:30 »
I wonder why so many people are still uploading?  There seems little point unless you have very unique and commercial images and they would be in small quantities.  I still upload occasionally but the motivation to upload the quantities I used to has gone.  I see no reason to try and compete with that amount of images.  Luckily old images still sell but if they ever change the search to favour new images, my earnings will vanish.

Wont the cost of hosting images hinder them at some point? I wonder how many of those 723,027 images added in a week will pay for themselves?  Wont contributors get bored of the earnings dilution and isn't that going to make the quality of what they upload diminish?

I've made over 700 euros over many years, not much but that paid for a few lenses.

They deleted anything that had words from my portfolio.  There's probably other categories they don't want.  I don't think it has anything to do with wholly owned content.

They pay at least 50/50 , untill now it was 60/40. But I think 50 % is pretty fair. For me Zoonar is a better earner than all the other low earners.  I check my income 12 times a year, during first days of a month, because eranings are updatet once per month. In november my earnings were about 100 (with just 900 pics) and I am satisfied!
Where do most of your sales come from?  My sales are very low with Zoonar but I might of opted out of sites they supply but I am already with.  They seem to get most of their sales through the third party sites, so we are getting quite a low commission when two sites take a cut.  Would be great if they did get more sales direct, 50% seems fair to me.

"I'll like to estimate for example, how many clips might I need to achieve a 500 dollar income monthly?"

One good one, or 1000 bad ones.
I'm trying to do 1000 bad ones :)

Adobe Stock / Re: Adobe Stock now selling video
« on: December 04, 2015, 03:36 »
Thank you Adobe for making Fotolia a better place.
They could do much more.  No idea why they didn't start a new site instead of buying one that has so many things wrong with it.  Lots of us saw an enormous fall in sales compared to other sites and mine haven't recovered at all since Adobe took over.

934
Does this mean they are going to lower their review standards or why would they let people that can only get 1/10 submit?  Makes no sense to me, it will most likely dilute the earnings of people that can produce good images and they will give up on microstock.  Every time I try to motivate myself to start uploading again, something like this happens that puts me right off.

935
If they haven't sold on alamy and are OK for the alamy RF license, maybe ask them if they can be changed to RF.  Then you have no problem submitting them to microstock sites but you have to hope Shutterstock doesn't reject most of them.

Alamy.com / Re: Alamy Rejection Rate Has More than Doubled
« on: December 01, 2015, 18:47 »
Hey, this is my first post. Never done this before. I've been with Alamy for years, with thousands of images online. I've not had a reject since 2012. A couple of weeks ago I submitted some images taken with my camera phone, thinking that they now accept them. WRONG! Only for news. So.....rejected! My next submission was a single scanned film image, one that was returned by Corbis after my contract expired. This single and the following submission were not QC'd for about 10 days, and when I enquired about this delay I was told (actually more like disciplined) by Shiraz that constant rejection slowed up QC by as much as 28 days! By the way, the scanned film image was rejected for being soft. It has sold over 350 times on the Corbis site.
They have a site and app for mobile phone images, Stockimo.  You can only submit from an iphone or ipad.  There's a list of acceptable cameras for the main alamy site and no camera phones have made it yet.

I like their policy.  Just look at the number of images they have, over 60 million.  The one rejection I have had in over 2,000 images was fair.  They never reject for subjective things like low commercial value, that can annoy me with the other sites.  If people have problems with alamy, they must be doing something technically wrong, the bar isn't set too high.  Just take a bit of care with what you upload and only upload small batches if you can't get to their technical standards consistently.

Pond5 / Re: Pond5 review times
« on: November 26, 2015, 04:40 »
They are paying out, so nothing like Revostock.  I don't see long review times as a problem, many sites have had times when they have too much new content for their reviewers to cope with.  I get more concerned when sites aren't getting any new content.

940
Alamy don't like using RM and RF from the same set of photos.  I'm sure the other RM sites wont like it either.  Alamy don't pay more than 50%.

941
If they can't pay out money that they should of been holding for contributors, don't they need to be investigated by the authorities?  If it isn't a crime to spend money that is owed to others, why would we trust any site with our money?  I presumed sites had a legal obligation not to spend money being held that is owed to contributors.  If that isn't the case, we need to get instant payouts from all sites to stop this happening again.

Oh dear, sounds like i've made a good move then...

If you had to choose one or 2 more to upload to which would you choose then... i have a bit of free time at the moment whilst im off work and cant really do much with a broken wrist, thought id try and be productive ;D
Alamy are good but it takes a long time to get sales going.  I'm not doing well with Fotolia but I think they are on the way up for a lot of people.  If you have video clips, try Pond5.  Canva sell a lot but only $0.35 commissions so far and you have to work out what they want, as they reject all images with text now.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Video pricing
« on: November 24, 2015, 04:02 »
I think 4k is much more appealing than 3D.  No glasses required, it doesn't hurt your eyes and it looks great.  With so many 4k video cameras out, I think it has to take off.

We have in our neighbourhood a video store. One of those good old fashioned ones that has all the new releases for  you to rent. I like the place and support it when I can. The thing is, it's greatest amount of shelf space is still dedicated to DVDs, not Blu Ray. Maybe it's the cliental or something else. But the far majority don't even bother to rent on BluRay.
The difference between DVD and Blu Ray wasn't enough for most people but 4k takes it to another level.  Blu Ray will lose out, people will probably go from watching DVD's to streaming 4k, if the internet can cope.

$6 for 4k?  They make the decision for me.  I don't supply them anyway because I can't do it for less than 20% but if I had kept my clips there, they would be gone now.  I did leave 1 on there but it has never sold, I don't think buyers like the really low prices either, they must know that if contributors can't make any money, they aren't going to upload anything worth buying.

Yikes over 5 weeks? Glad I found this thread, i've been waiting for about 10 days and thought I was being hard done by.

Turns out I've got a MUCH longer wait ahead of me...

Pond5 were so quick at reviews 12months ago - whats happened...
I presume they are getting a lot more uploads than a year ago.  Then there's 4k, the files are much bigger, so it must take them longer to review.

Off Topic / Re: Terrorist attack in Paris 140 dead
« on: November 17, 2015, 18:20 »
This is a very low level discussion. I haven't learned anything in the last 5 pages, other than photographers have very little understanding in history, economy and politics. Therefore it was a big waste of time for me. When I read independent news outlets like ZeroHedge, the general level of understanding is much higher, people also disagree but you can learn quite a lot - that's the difference.

MSG is great when it comes to micro agencies and photography, and that's about it.
If you think photographers no nothing about war, you need to do more research.  Try here for a start

I feel for the people of Paris and all the other people that have been killed or injured in terrorist attacks but I also feel for the people in middle east countries that are killed almost every day.  I used to not like the song "Imagine" but maybe no countries and no religion are the only way to stop these conflicts.  Not so sure about no possessions, I need my camera.

sharpshot, good sale, probably gross partner sale right, so not really 600 but more 180, still good, i just never understood the niche of posting alamy sales in gross figures
No, they sold it for almost $1,200 and I got 50% of that.

It would be great if the BBC stopped using Getty/istock.  They must be wasting a lot of money and a lot of us get such a small cut from them or no longer use them.  They should be using alamy more, a British site that pays a decent commission.
