Unless you have a pretty chunky machine it would be tough - rendering can take a lot of RAM / CPU and modelling is not exactly light either

What makes a good photo - (a) the mind behind the camera or (b) the piece of technology pointed at the subject?
(c) both of the above
Couldn't argue with that. It's a bit like Judo where skill not size is supposed to matter but competitions still have weight divisions

Yeah, I'm not aware of higher priced images (doesn't mean there aren't) - I believe these are higher priced licences that can be applied to any image. The point here though is about what is good for business from the site's perspective and what SS do seems to work better than the competition and also works best for most producers. Hell, even when they introduced the photo challenge thing they did it in a very simple effective fashion, unlike some I could mention.

What makes a good photo - (a) the mind behind the camera or (b) the piece of technology pointed at the subject? I'd like to think (a) but the reality is probably (b) for stock.

We have one site that, even with a pretty low rpd, manages to generate the most income for (most) contributors, has the simplest royalty structure out there and the most transparent pricing structures - coincidence??

Plus, there's the added fact that one never really knows if the boastee is actually telling the truth, or just blowviating.
I got 20 Els this week on dreamolia, I requested payout on Tuesday and still haven't received anything. Just tried to contact support about it via the site contact form, spent 20 minutes trying to get past the captcha, eventually made it, then the site went down. Think I'm better off flipping burgers

Hadn't paid too much attention to the rates, RPD is currently ok (relatively speaking) and wouldn't have joined at all if the, by definition discriminatory, grandfathering proposal had stood. Total monthy MS income is not even a day's pay and 123 is a very small proportion on that. I'd be prepared to suck up the cut on credit sales but am not prepared to accept subs less than IS's PP so reckon I'll pull out when I get the first one of those.

Lots of threads but, thankfully, not all could be categorised under these headings. I actually don't mind someone having a good old rant but I find a lot of the boasting very irritating - possibly as I don't have a lot to boast about

I view SF as the best deal on the table, and probably the best deal we'll ever be offered by any new or current company that can actually drum up some sales in the foreseeable future.
I could name a few places that give 50-60% and allow you to set your own prices. I think the 'drum up some sales' part is crucial here.
I also sell 3d models and there is a site that charges nothing and you receive 100% from any sale (www.digitalelements.be if anyone is interested). Well ... 100% from 0 is still 0.
Isnt this the problem really? Small % of high volume is usually better than big % of low volume or 100% of nada. 15% of sales on 30 images at IS makes more than 50% of 300 files on 123. There is no fair in this game, sites just take different approaches to maximising profit and the best sites are the one that return the biggest revenue per image.

I don't know what the native format is for blender but if you save as obj you can use it in pretty much anything.

Downloaded but never got around to using it and understand the interface is not that intuitive. I found Wings ok but Hexagon from Daz is now free and seems to have a hell of a lot more to offer

Sounds good to me.
Me too. Want something, buy what you need. I never liked credit systems anywhere, and that includes beer and food tickets at a country fair.
Agree, it's pretty pointless just like "Krustyland money" - I think a lot of this industry is based on "seemed like a good idea at the time" thinking - credits, rejections based on tiny flaws that would never be visible looking at the entire image, huge res files just because "we can" when a hell of a percentage of use if for web, gazillions of spam keywords to describe that isolated tomato, newspeak dictionary controlled vocabs, etc, etc.

"He who bites the hand that feeds him will lick the boot that kicks him." Still, "bad mouthing" is one thing, criticising manifestly obvious flaws is another

How many buyers are going to cover an entire wall with an image? Folks do high MP images because they have high MP cameras but, in reality, they'll end up on the web or moderate sized prints - 6MP is tons. Actually most of mine are smaller than that as size increases render times exponentially and the majority of sales are less than full size.

I'm not saying that the low earners are pointless for everyone - perfectly viable for those with bigger more marketable ports and I'm sure also that there are likely better markets than MS for the more professional producer. However, if submitting to MS, it seems to make no sense to contribute to low volume sites and ignore the sites that produce the best returns per image.

I don't get the "moral reasons" - they're in it to make money for them, not us so it's just business. I also don't really get quitting IS even if they only accept 1 in 10 as the 1 will probably earn more than 10 on the low performing sites. I don't think I'd submit to anything below top 6 as it is nice to get the occasional payout.

Hovering on the Rank link at the top used to offer a choice between IS and DT something like the choices on the Tools link - now it it is the choices on the Tools link. Just curious...

It's in their IPO report that they pay out 12% to contributors. That is a publicly known fact now.
Luis' numbers show the % paid to individual contributors for individual sales. The 12% may be a correct representation of what paid to contributors expressed as a % of overall sales revenue - remember quite a lot of the profit results from buyers not downloading all the images available in their subs packages.

are you selling SIM cards??
Not exactly selling... however they are offering a 5 credit through affiliation... and since I'm going to the UK in September for the Leonard Cohen concert I need a free recharge
Do you think the font is a bit too large?
I've been to 2 Cohen concerts about 30 years apart - both absolutely outstanding!! The font is just a little on the large side
