Selling Stock Direct / Re: Great Prints Sales
« on: May 29, 2025, 11:00 »
but I still got over US$560.
So, what I read about the author.
"Charline Xia. One of her exhibitions was sponsored by and held at Steam Whistle Art Gallery in Toronto. Her photos have been published by many major public and private entities including the United Nations, Parks Canada, Forbes, The Globe and Mail, Linux, Canadian Geographic Magazine and many many others globally."

I apologize, of course, but for a photographer of this level, an income of $ 560 is very little. And as I understand it, you usually earn less.

 ???

I'll give you some advice, ditch your photography, shoot videos, you'll earn more dollars.
 ;D ;D ;D

It doesn't say she was hired by those organisations/companies to do a shoot but only that they have published her photos. Myself, and probably many others out here, have all seen our photos bought and being used/published by big organisations and companies worldwide. But maybe my interpretation is wrong.

Looking further, I think all of the AI joy or pain is thanks to Matthew Smith at Adobe.
I might be mistaking but I think he is the godfather of all this AI crap.

3
Remember our friend Mat Hayward? He was off doing something at Adobe fixing submissions on the background, right?
All I found on internet is that he has worked for Adobe and that is it. He just went away quitely, that is what I think.
Maybe he got fed up with Adobe also and he was their chearleader over here!

If he is still working for Adobe, he is not bragging about it on social media. He only states he worked there, past tense.

4
I think that Uncle Pete went over to the dark side with his appraisal of Adobe :)
We can't save everyone. Let's take a minute and mourn for him.

I'm just going to mention in earlier related news:

If you had between 350 and 6,999 downloads during the 2024 calendar year, you qualified to receive a complimentary code for a one-year plan for Creative Cloud Photography (20GB), Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere Pro, or After Effects.

If you had 7,000 or more downloads in 2024, you qualified to receive a complimentary code for a one-year plan for an Adobe Creative Cloud All Apps.

Only Contributors active in 2024 are eligible for the opportunity. To be considered active, you must have uploaded and had approved a minimum of 150 new assets.

350 DLs isn't that terrible, but with the reduced uploads allowed, the review roulette, the mystery similar rejections and whatever else, for some people who are careful and only upload quality images/photos, this will make the CC code, more difficult to achieve.

For you Adobe haters, it's still the site that pays best and makes the most for me. If the fans of dimes and 15% are going to keep cheering, just pay attention to best percentages and most pay, which of the three, SS, IS and AS, Adobe still wins.

ps If reviews are your thing, I have found that aside from some technical bs rejections, for legal reasons, IS is now the most consistent. SS is wacky, but for 10 they seem to be taking anything, anyone throws up at them. Yes ago when reviews were actually looked at, IS was possibly the toughest, but at the same time, the most consistent for what they took and what they refused.

Actually no Peter,
Adobe used to be the best seller with the highest payout per month. But, for me, that changed the last eight months or so. It is Istock or Shutterstock that it is winning in $ amount and they were already winning in numbers a long time. Adobe is sliding, for me at least.

Got a $50.00 fee on a mediocre photo yesterday. Nice change from the dimes. It's like 500 dime sales :)
Wonder where it will show up.

the solution to give everyone the opportunity to sell, lies in the creation of a more dynamic algorithm, which highlights the best content of each portfolio, for an hour or two or half a day,so that everyone can have their best content highlighted in rotation,a very dynamic rotation.

the old system of displaying best-selling content no longer works,it's outdated.

Adobe knows this, and I'm sure they will fix it,because it's clearly in their interest, since the more creators are satisfied, the more creators will continue not only to produce,on which Adobe gets a percentage upon sales, but also to use their products.

It's a common problem and will be fixed,i just hope it won't take too long.

Rejections are just a temporary band-aid to stem the real problem.

Limits are certainly a great remedy, which will have positive effects in the long term, but a new, more dynamic algorithm is also needed.

Adobe is a little sick and needs to get better! 😄

Get upset about Adobe, get really depressed about it, forgive Adobe, praise Adobe, repeat.

Why is that?

General Stock Discussion / Re: Adobe limiting uploads
« on: May 21, 2025, 15:53 »
I have a 0% rejection rate lately because I have not uploaded anything since this one picture is being under review for five months now. Until that one is being reviewed I will not upload anything. Shameless amateur losers that cannot get done things correctly, efficient or in a decent way. That's what I think of Adobe. With all the money they have they cannot attract any proper management. It's kind of sad actually. You almost feel sorry for them. Almost eh, not really obviously.

Yesterday I had my best day ever at Adobe, a buyer bought a whole video collection of 50 clips, I went from ~13000 to 7160... Pure luck
And next week your account is blocked because of irregular activity  ;)

Shutterstock.com / Re: New Unlimited Download Model
« on: April 23, 2025, 09:46 »
To recap, for a buyer to see everyones content now they have to

(i) run a search
(ii) change from "Highlights" to "All images" (which isnt all images.  Its misleading)
(iii) Notice the "Filter applied: 1" box
(iv) click that box
(v) scroll down
(vi) select "All images" in the filter list

That simply isnt going to happen.

I just did a search for some of my files on the buyers site. No results found. However, a message came up saying that there may have been some filters affecting the search. All I had to do was a single action (one mouse click) to deactivate the filters and then my files appeared in the search results.
Yes, but if you do a new search then the filter is automatically reinstated (so you see unlimited only). For each search you have to disable that filter. At least it seems that way.

Ah great thanks. I just did that (pushed the dates back further.)

I came across some more 4k videos of mine that were sold (just a few.) And I see that they were all sold at HD resolution for a few dollars each. Yea I think I'm leaning more towards the idea of uploading HD videos to AS in the future.
Think twice about that. Sure many customers will buy your 4K video at HD with a low price. But when they do buy 4k, it pays a lot more. For example I get $2.80 for HD but also a $55.63 for a 4K download. So, if you only have HD you would be missing out on the bigger sales most likely. But I don't do videos that much so not sure if my sales figures tell that much. Just saying.

Really strong week. Easter sales even better than Christmas. Had 3 Christmas sales today, what haha.

Already broke again my weekly all time high.
Downloads and earnings are slightly time lagged.

///Edit:
Alone today 75 downloads and almost 60 USD are really strong. If I can sell more extended licenses again like I did two weeks ago, then I can aim the 300 USD per week goal.
I will now continuously try to diversify my portfolio with new content and reduce the rejection rate due to already similar images in the portfolio.

The good thing is, I still have almost 5,000 more unedited AI images that I need to upscale and upload. Realistically about 3,000 will be accepted, so my total portfolio will increase to over 10,000 images.
With that I should be able to consistently earn around 350 USD per week in the second half of the year.

Congrats Andrej that you are doing so well in such a short time!
In fact I was wondering about your portfolio and why it is so successful. You know, so we can learn a thing or two. So on Adobe there are multiple portfolios called Andrej. Each portfolio has it's own product/theme so it looks like the same producer uses different accounts for each category. Are you all of them? Or is this another Andrej.
Then another thing is that on LinkedIn you can find an Andrej S which is or was working for Adobe. Is that you as well?
That might also explain the success of your portfolio obviously ;)

General Stock Discussion / Re: Photography and education

Hi

Was thinking about doing a distance learning course with Institute of Photography (accredited).  My photos are pretty much "blah", badly composed, boring.

Just wondering what peoples thoughts, experience are.  Anyone done any photography courses that has helped them or just a waste of time and money?

Thanks
Angela

It depends what you shoot. If it is landscapes I can give you some links to free youtube accounts of masters that are free and are very learnsome.

Way more downloads on SS and even more $ on SS then AS. So for me the same as others are depicting.

I got a $650 sale on an editorial photo of a Covid leaflet. On another day, someone bought 5 images of mine for around $160 each.
That was your royalty or that was what the client paid? Always very confusing here what people state on their sales and what they received.

67.96 USD royalty with Istock for a still from Paris taken from the Eiffel tower. 2nd 55.63 USD for a video with Adobe for a Northern lights video in Finland. 3rd 45 USD with Istock for a still of the white house in Washington DC.

No action required, we will close it for you  ;D ;D ;D

Dissapointing again from Adobe.
Nice they make a statement here after also sending the email.
But the one dollar question will not be answered. As usual. No explanation how this really would increase our income. It might well be that it will lower it if it is a cheaper plan in the end.

It's not your choice to become exclusive at istock. You can apply but the choice is theirs. And they are not so easy in accepting your application.
(For anyone thinking about it an deleting their work at other agencies before making the move :) )

Adobe Stock / Re: What's your weekly ranking and how many images?
« on: February 24, 2025, 13:43 »
Good, long  ;D story Peter. But even Cobalt who is doing a seriously effort doesn't get further then like $100 a week (at least last week it seems like that). Maybe $200 0r $300 a week when luck is her way? That is not enough in the western world we live in to get bills paid. Unless you have wellfare on the side and don't report income.
Maybe ZeroTalent has enough income to come by (haven't heard from him for a while now though). But otherwise it seems pretty useless to pursue a living from Microstock no matter what history there was how we got to this point in time.

Contrary to what some may believe, $100 is not sufficient to live comfortably anywhere.

As another member pointed out, $500 might enable some people to live "comfortably" in many developing countries. However, they could earn more by focusing on corporate shoots.
I just put a random amount up there  ;) I was just acknowledging the point Stock4me made.
But even then in a lot of countries, in Africa and the Middle-East, $100 a month is above average income. So for those people I would say it would be interesting to engage in Microstock.

Its a start.

You will move up very quickly with more sales.

my weekly dropped to 1290
If you are 1290, which is very good, what does that say about making money in Microstock? Only 1289 people in the world ahead of you. Very small number of people making a living at this while sales and income are dropping.

Good point. Especially when you know there a lot of companies/groups that we know that sell a lot. So there will only be a small number of individual producers that can reach $3000 or more each month. Pretty depressing if your goal is to make microstock your main income. Unless you live in a country where $100 a month is enough offcourse.

what I will do in the next few weeks is improve indexing, especially for old content,I believe this can at least partially improve sales,at least I will try.

and I think that's enough for the moment...or not?Is there anything else anyone wants to judge or criticize? hahaha! :D
I'll try to help you here.
You mentioned really good growth in november last year right? Or another month, it doesn't really matter. You also mention you have uploaded a lot of items and you assume that would give you more sales.
Go back a little. Why did you have good sales in november last year (if that was the month with the growth)? Did you have one or more bestsellers making these numbers? If so, then maybe this was not normal growth you should be expecting and tone down a little your expecatations. If not, what was the content that sold in this good month? Remember those sales. Now, look what you have been uploading. Is it AI or the same of what was doing well. If it was AI then AI is being flooded into Adobes stock this year, so your competition is growing a lot harder then you can submit and you will lose ground.
If it was not AI then it might be your subject that just doesn't gain attraction. This can have mutliple reasons. But mostly it's luck.
Just an anecdote here. I shot Iceland, didn't sell a lot, market was oversaturated. So you might think, don't shoot oversatured subjects. Then I went to the North East coast of the USA and shot photos at New York, Washington etcetera. You would think that these places would be oversaturated as well. But I sell really well relatively.
So you never know what sells well or not or if there is already to much of the same subject. It's also having a bit of luck, I guess.
But my point is. Go look at your sales when things went your way. Try to understand why that was, which photos, which subjects, AI or not, and put that in perspective relative to what you have done the last year and then draw your conclusions.

Good luck but if you go weening once more that you should have more sales because you uploaded so much, I will ignore you like you never existed. Then you just don't get how this game is played.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Batch in Istock submission
« on: February 03, 2025, 11:34 »
I have both approved photos and photos pending approval in the same batch, which I submitted more than two weeks ago.

Based on your experience, how long does it usually take for all the photos in a batch to be approved? Is it typically up to one month or less or longer?
I am for 95% sure the remainder will be reviewed within a week from now.
