You know, I just had a black & white with my application rejected as overfiltered.  Now I was expecting this shot to get rejected as uploading it was an accident with a file of similar name and it has a Chrysler written in bright chrome across the front (not to mention the logo).  Still it just seems petty when there is a blatant oops, not going to the quality of the shot, to go in effect hey your stuff sucks.  On the other hand I'm now motivated to take some more B&W's and sell elsewhere.

To be honest I'm a bit hesitant to upload to a site with a checkbox to offer to sell all rights.  Not that I wouldn't do it, but I'd want something equivalent to a sale of all rights in the macrostock world, maybe around $20,000 to $50,000 an image.  I suppose I could prices in, but anyone willing to pay that kind of money will probably get a hold of me anyway. 

I just find the suggestion of selling all rights for $350 a bit insulting.  That might be good earnings in the microstock world but it's about one non exclusive RM liscense macrostock.  Does anyone have any experience with this "feature"?

Well the fact that, at least as of this afternoon, if you type Canon EOS 7D into google you got a sponsored link for B&H with option to buy.  You don't get the same if you type in 3D BTW.  Oh and there's the beginnings of a rumor going around that the successor to the mIII with be a MF DSLR.

A Nikon is not a Nikon if it can't accept Nikon lenses.

I need some advise.  I'm looking to buy a DSLR for stock work.  Currently my lenses are a Canon 28-70/2.8L, a 70-200/2.8L (no IS), and a Canon 50/1.8.  Currently I'm using a film SLR and a 4 year old bridge camera.  Which would be a better buy (assuming new condition).

I've seen this happen back in the days of film when somebody put a nice lens on a Canon Rebel they'd picked up at Walmart (the back story involves the untimely death of an EOS 1n).  Pulled the mounting bracket right off the camera.  On the other hand back in the day we had a fair range of intermediate cameras between the top and bottom of the range (there were at least two maybe three or more bodies between the Rebel and the 1n).  That range is more abbreviated with digital, mounting brackets and such may have been strengthened as a result.

Personally the Elan II(E) is on my list of favorite camera's ever.

Call the paper and ask to speak with their photo editor.  Be warned you're going to get paid beans, somewhere from $50-$100 and possibly as low as $20 from a local paper. 

Be sure that you have names and caption information (as best you can) for anybody in the picture.  Tell him you have a freelance image that you want to sell.  Also remember that the standards for a journalist image is exposure, contrast and color correction only, no manipulating either the shot or the scene before you took the shot.  You may be asked to provide the RAW file and the paper will make corrections on equipment calibrated to work with their presses.  Review any contract you are given and make sure it's clear that you are not giving the paper all rights to an image.

They are designed to distribute the weight of heavy gear and are good in situations where you dare not set down a photo bag or are carrying to much weight to comfortably hang off an arm.  Normally they are used with various hard lens cases (unless they've changed in the last couple of years).  They also have ample pocket for film / extra SD cards (blanks in one pocket, shot cards in the other).  I believe another reason they're used is dealing with a big beast of a lens and a photo bag at the same time can lead to gear overload.

Personally I've never much seen the point.  I returned the one I was given back when these things cost a couple hundred bucks a bought a good flash.

What's considered good to earn per image/month (aggregate of all the sites you might have it on).  $0.10/image, $0.50/image, $1/image?

They want you to go shoot in a format that can get those sizes naturally.  I believe that some high end DSRLs, 4x5 film and maybe medium format film can all produce images of the requires size.

Back in the day the minimum number of images needed to start with a (macro) stock agency was 2000 with 100 added each month (generally shot on medium format film).  About 20,000 was consider to be around the point where you could retire.  Not sure how this translates today.   

Not really surprising, most graphics arts projects have deadlines that either coincide with the end of the month or go press during the month for availability at the end of the month.  First week of the month everyones either recovering or scurrying on a delayed project.

Well TBH I'm in East Texas right now and was thinking of shooting some Kodachrome (as Fuji and brown tones tend not to like each other so much) and get a CD from Dwayne's.

On turning a profit.  Well right now I just want to get shooting again and it'd be nice to be make back a bit of my film and processing costs.  I'll look into a digital in a bit but I'm not really impressed with the current digital Rebels and am wondering if I won't end up replacing some of the higher end cameras as often as I have to replace my computer (every two to three years).

I minored in Photography and did some work as a photojournalist in the late 90's.  It's been about ten years since I last did any serious photography.  I'm interested in getting back into things a bit again.  Couple really basic questions:

1) I have a mid range (3MP, several years old) "advanced" point and shoot digital camera and a analogue (i.e. film) Canon SLR with some VERY nice glass.  If I shot some slow film and had it scanned would the images be marketable.  What about if I picked up a medium format used on ebay?  (Yes, I know that I could buy a new digital SLR with the money saved from a couple months of not shooting with film.)

2) What photo types sell well as microstock?  I'm seeing a lot of portfolio's with very high concentrations of studio work. 

3) Will the stock site down sample a large image file into a buyers requested resolution or do I need to upload multiples of each file?
