I think many cinematographers still use film rather than digital.

Thanks for that advice, I'll put a few renders in the submission. I hope to make renders a much larger part of my port in future, and istocks tendency to reject nearly all my 3D work is one of the reasons I dropped exclusivity.

I guess people can put up a gallery of their non-stock images somewhere and send that link to stocksy. Shouldn't be too hard in todays hosting environment. Personal portfolio site.

I did email them a while ago and got this reply:

Hi Christina, nice to hear from you and thanks for your interest in Shutterstock!
We'll review your ten images and then process you through the system. Once the images are accepted, you will need to opt-out of sales to prevent them from being live on the site. A day before your exclusivity ends, you can opt back into sales and your images will be on the site, live. This process can take a day or two.
When you upload your images, be sure to write a note to the reviewer that you are an istock exclusive.
If you have any questions along the way, feel free to reach out.

So, looks like I have to join the queue.

Thanks for that advice (both parts). I'll include it then. And pay close attention to focus in my choices.

Another question - does image size matter to SS? My current camera is a 40MP Pentax 645D, and my previous ones various Pentax 35mm cameras up to the 16MP K5 (staring with the 6MP *istD). Should I prefer later, larger images for initial submission or doesn't it matter?

My best selling image by far on IS has been [link deleted]. I was surprised when it was accepted on istock in the first place (no dynamic range to speak of). I'm pondering my submission of 10  images to SS at the moment and am wondering if I should include it in the selection. Any other tips on what to choose would be good too, as I believe SS has different standards to IS and I don't want to choose the wrong stuff to submit.

I think istock booting Sean is the single most significant event in the six years that I've been associated with microstock. So symbolic of where things have come to.

I dropped istock exclusivity a short while ago but haven't got around to uploading elsewhere yet except for an initial submission to Alamy (which was accepted). Yesterday I found a link on Stocksy to send an email if interested in contributing, but doesn't seem to be there today, just one link to create an account. I doubt that my style would suit Stocksy but as its image exclusivity if they want anything I guess I should offer it there first. Anyone know how to go about it now?

OK, Cycles. I was using BI. I just tried checking Transparent on the film subpanel of the Render panel, with output set to PNG/RGBA and it rendered with a transparent background using Cycles.

Here is the .blend I used to create this image. On my computer the image opens in Photoshop as a png file showing a cube on a TRANSPARENT background.

I just rendered the default cube after setting the output to PNG/RGBA, and saved the resulting render. It opens in Photoshop as a cube with transparent background.

For the past few years my #2 seller has been an image of myself. I'm something of a specialty item, being a transsexual woman and there are very few images of such on any stock agency. This doesn't surprise me at all as we're a very private group generally,  but I thought there might be some legitimate use such as, for example, a support agency producing a brochure. However with istocks recent Google Drive fiasco I wasn't prepared to let any models, including myself, face the risk of inappropriate use with no redress. Others may feel the same way about making images of 'sensitive' people be available for abuse.

Thanks for the info JoAnn and Sue. I'll get my head around it eventually. Perhaps I should concentrate on niche content for RM.

I think I'm a bit confused about licensing types. Festival shots would need to be editorial, and is there such a thing as editorial RM? The checklist for uploads said no logos for RF, but on istock editorial is RF of course and can include logos. 

OK, checking the license types on Alamy seems there is no such license as RF Editorial. All Editorial is RM. Hmm. Seems strange given that all editorial on lstock is RF. Guess it's just one of the many things I'll have to get used to.

I've been very unmotivated by istock lately. I should have gone into the city a couple of weekends ago (its a half hour walk) to get lots of shots of the Chinese New Year celebrations in Melbourne's Chinatown. But it was hot, and new images are not being seen anyway. So I didn't bother. Could have been a good fit for Alamy RM.

My main reason is that I've decided to actually make a business of this instead of just a hobby that helps to pay for itself. And that istock rejects a lot of my work. Ultimate aim is to pay my rent from my images - approx $20,000 (AUD) per year ATM. Good as owning a house, which I don't. I do have another job so it will be pretty part-time. Anyway, will I be accepted? A bit of excitement in life again...

I know little about Stocksy, but if they have image exclusivity and many of the best photographers put their best images there (and only there) because they get a good return, then I can imagine buyers might be interested.

I believe Sean stopped uploading quite a while ago. As an IS exclusive with nowhere else to put his mounting pile of new work I guess that amounts to a significant protest, or at least a show of concern. Deactivating images is not the only way to show the agent that you don't trust them with your work anymore.

Pity you didn't reach the million dls Sean. Not that it would have meant much in the circumstances.

pieman has just asserted that Rob's going is unrelated to Sean's going. He's a good friend of Rob so this is probably not spin. Maybe the Stocksy issue is not that relevant in Sean's case.

Looks like Getty has their own version of NDAA, and is engaged in targeted killings of their own citizens for reasons that can't be made public.

So why did they boot Rob?
