Died completely for me. FT is doing much better, and IS even more. Thinking about a stop to uploading on SS.

Where's the joke? They identified the errors and are doing their best to repair and inform. This id excellent. If they didn't do anything I'm sure most contributors wouldn't even have noticed. And some companies would be happy to keep this quiet.

On a more serious note, Yuri hasn't stopped uploading files. We're just reorganizing. :)

Best,

Yuri's PA

Your are right. Yuri hasn't really stopped uploading files.  It's a fact that Yuri's collection hasn't been growing in iStock for a while.  But, doesn't Yuri's factory produces more than only Yuri's collection?

There's a little army of Yuri's clones uploading  restlessly to iStock.   Aren't those huge clones' collections coming from Yuri's factory?  Aren't those clones his workforce of iStock exclusives who make him earn huge amounts of money?   ::)

I don't think so. Yuri has a very distinctive style coupled with market research and mass production advantages and restrictions. He does a very good job but I know from a client's perspective that what he does is not always the perfect match for everyone. There are many styles, markets, requirements... He know his market and serves it well, but the market is vast and diversified.

Also, I don't know his plans of course, but I'm sure his site will end up competing face to face against some established sites, including SS, IS, and even Getty.

That's where stock agencies have a problem. As a top selling contributor you would be very generous with him, giving him anything he demands. On the other side, s a top selling contributor he can do without you. This reminds me of IBM , Microsoft and Steve Jobs. :)

Don't know about details, but after change I stopped selling at SS.

After I dropped IS exclusivity my total earnings from 4 big sites dropped to about 30% of what they used to be in IS exclusive alone. I regret.

Shutterstock used to sell OK, but mostly 25 cent revenue, and stopped completely a few weeks ago after introducing a new best match system.

I miss IS exclusivity.

Almost zero rejections here, lots of credit sales, fast reviews too, mostly within 24h.
I'm not planning to leave this agency anytime soon, on the contrary, it's becoming one of my favorites lately.

Good weekend all.

As I said before. Different agencies have different types of customers, or nationality. Each knows their client taste generally.

I think they solved it now, but uploading to FT is still problematic for two reasons:

1: Absurd categories

2: Keywords, the most relevant ones need to be moved on top.

My sales at FT have increased significantly the last few weeks, while SS stopped completely and IS is doing OK with ups and downs. But I also noticed FT has very different customers than others. what sells at FT doesn't sell on IS, and some IS bestsellers don't sell of FT. There are even bestsellers on one site that get rejected on others.

I would like to know what they told you on the rejection notices. Otherwise it's hard to know. Of all the agencies I contribute to, I think Istockphoto has the best inspectors. I learned a lot from their rejections.

IMO they're the best in the industry.

I agree. They are very good.

Managing a huge agency like this is a complex task, and then you have banks, credit cards, and many more variables. It's not a joke, I actually think that in this respect Istockphoto does its best. One can argue about their royalty rates, but they are very honest about it. That's my experience at least.

Not bad, most of my sales are 25c in SS :-\

I take it back. Had a great day today too :)
#14
Yes, most of my sales generate 30c too, but then SS is not very different in that respect. I think that in the long run this price war will hurt the entire community.

I don't mind deactivating instead of deleting. It gives you an option to come back if you change your mind. I'm new at DP, but I think they're fine. If communication is problematic just make sure they understand what you need to do. I don't think there's anything wrong with their legality.

I'm not sure but it looks like I need to login many times in one day. It doesn't seem to keep your session very long. As for sales, I don't know, I'm still too new, but they seem to be OK.

Tough or not, that's the deal you signed up for.

Absolutely right, and I'm not complaining. I'm actually happy with them and sales are starting, despite low prices.

Just trying to understand. Now I'd like to know if the rule applies only for the files uploaded with the incentive, or also files uploaded after that. I'll ask them.

There are three or four pictures I would like to deactivate, but when I click on the deactivate link nothing happens. Tried many times and with different browsers. Anyone else knows why?

Did you get the upload bonus for those images?  perhaps they are still locked in.

I actually did. They sent me an email, it said this:

"any file you add as part of the promotion will not be removed by you for a period of at least 12 months"

It's fair enough but maybe a little tough, 12 months is a lot

I think it's an excellent feature. There are still issues however with the alphabetization of keywords, and the terrible categories in Fotolia. I think all sites should eventually drop categories, or at least make it a simple general description like SS. Many people just pick random categories when uploading to FT.

The compass program would actually make your site very attractive for different reasons, but the requirements are not very clear.
#24
Looking at most of these magazines, I don't see a clear advantage in going Macro instead of Micro. They probably have no budget requirements.
#25
Every agency has a different market, and they try to select photographs based on their respective markets. Fotolia is very big in Europe, including Germany, Scandinavian countries, and France. I might be wrong, but from what I see North European countries is a preference for photographs that are very white with people staring at the camera with a cheesy smile, usually all looking the same. So my point is , every market is different and every agency selects for its customers. It's not a personal thing.
