StockFresh / Re: Stockfresh: fantastic re-design!
« on: February 09, 2015, 10:04 »
[It's Peter from Stockfresh, looks like I logged in with my old account by accident, sorry :)]

Cidepix: Thanks! The new, fluid (responsive) design is to accommodate the growing number of mobile users. :)

Ariene: Actually we've always had subscriptions, but there used to be a size limit which was removed about 2-3 months ago.

Mantis: Credit based downloads still vastly outnumber subscription downloads, so what you're claiming to experience is not exactly typical.

I must update that article with the latest development but it's just a run through of both sites and everything that's happened!

Hilary,
Actually your blog is the only place on the web where people can read about the history of the sites and it was used as a resource in the article mentioned in the first post :)

« on: December 21, 2009, 10:11 »
I just saw Peter's announcement in the other (locked) thread.

Peter, if you are reading, I just wanted to thank you for creating a wonderful site and for letting us know what is going on with it now.  It is easier to make decisions when we have the facts.

Wishing you and the other Haap Media partners all the best in your new projects.  :)

Lisa + Massman:
Thank you very much! I know the site wasn't perfect in many ways but I'm proud that we has always strived to treat contributors fairly. This has always been a fundamental principle for us and it will always be.

By the way I probably have to make a new account here. This name doesn't belong to me any more.

StockXpert.com / Announcement / Press release
« on: December 18, 2009, 06:08 »
Dear Everyone,

I'm posting this here as well because I'm sure not everyone reads the StockXpert forums.

As of this week, I am no longer with Stockxpert and SXC. After nearly 9 years we (the founders of HAAP) decided to quit the company and sell our remaining share to Getty Images.

Thank you very much for your dedication and support over the years. It was amazing to watch these sites grow from a simple hobby to a 3 million+ community that changed the life of many people including ours, but it's time to say good bye now.

Maybe we'll meet again in another project! :)

If you are interested in what we're up to, please sign up here:

You can also read the accompanying press release there.

I wish everyone a fantastic holiday and great sales for the future!

Best regards,
Peter

PS: Dream Csoport means Dream Group in Hungarian, it's a group of all the web related services we built over the years.

Thanks for the explanation... Gave me a few ideas! :)

As for folders, you don't need to use them at all. You don't even have to move images out one by one. Just delete the folder and the pics all "go home" automatically.

As for categories, you don't have to use those either. Only titles, descriptions and keywords are mandatory. You never know when they might be useful though. There are many different types of customers with different browsing preferences and habits. Some might like to use them. They can also be useful for disambiguation - for example when you're looking for an orange specifically, you don't want all kinds of orange coloured items there, and with the advanced search you can tell the site that you are looking for results in the Fruits category.

The FTP upload IS extremely tedious. It's not just Laurin feeling that way, and not just me either I'm afraid.

I understand that this FTP issue is not an urgent matter for StockXpert at the moment but Laurin was explaining correctly that Shutterstock set up their FTP system in a way that does not require hitting any buttons to tell the server that the uploader has finished transferring files - nor moving files around in various "Briefcase" folders etc (it is annoying AND time consuming).

This might be a technical challenge for StockXpert to achieve but I have to agree that this is the easiest way to upload files.

Drag and drop into your FTP client AND DONE!

Please Peter keep posting here about the progress of StockXpert.

It's not really a technical issue, it's just that when I wrote that part of the site a long time ago I thought the users would want to decide when to transfer the files to their accounts. :) I think it can be changed.

You don't have to move the files around though, they are just grouped for easier editing. Maybe that's not the best concept so please share your favourite way to edit files and we'll definitely consider implementing it.

I'll try to post here from time to time. There are a lot of things happening.

I removed some topics and created a sticky one with official info. The sort order is already fixed, and I'm very glad because I was about to go crazy just like everyone else. :)

rinderart:
You just have to upload the files to the FTP, press a button, and tag them with the bulk editor. That's it.
You can't skip the FTP part, somehow you have to get the files online.
You can't skip the button pressing part, you have to tell the system somehow that you are done.
Finally, having folders give you the ability to edit many files at the same time.
There aren't a lot of things to simplify here... :)
We could group images by upload date, but that's the same thing.

Hello Everyone,

I just want to tell you that Stockxpert is not dead. :) There was a very long transitional period during the JI/Getty deal, which slowed everything down considerably. We are working hard on fixing some of the important issues that couldn't get any attention earlier. You all know what they are. As for reviewers, we have the same people. Many of them have been with us since the start and some have looked at hundreds of thousands (if not millions) of images already. Reviews might have slowed down a bit lately because we're getting an unbelievable amount of images, but I believe we will be able to deal with them.

Thanks for your patience!

After being told back in August that I would be reimbursed a PPD for my incorrectly sized/priced file (xl size sold as a large sub) now it seems they feel all my sales are in line?!?! (at least according to the admin on StockXpert forums). It's only one sale but give me a break!!! I cannot believe I have to chase down 15 friggin bucks.

Lora, it seems you had a sale for a 2540 x 1701 image. that's not 3500 as you claimed and it's below the 3300 limit. I'm sorry!

What about Jupiterimages Unlimited subscription sales?  It still looks like some of those might be missing from October.

They should be OK. I checked some top sellers' stats and there's consistent reporting for October. There's a gap between Oct 3 and Oct 16 and those missing sales were added on Oct 17. These are still fairly new products, so you should expect a lot less sales than on StockXpert. This will of course hopefully change in the future.

Well I didn't get paid for my PPD yet (while others did). ???  Only subs from photos.com today. Obviously its not fixed for everyone. Hope its not another 10 weeks to sort out. Kind of disappointed with them now.  :-\

There's nothing to sort out this time. Not everybody had PPD sales on Photos.com yet. Your Photos.com sales are perfectly in line with your StockXpert sales.

Welcome here haap  :) and thank you for chime in and make things clearer.
It would be very nice if you could point out some of the opportunities as an example as i have a hard time to see one. For me it still looks bad.

Well, I'm just saying that I believe it makes sense to keep StockXpert growing in one way or another. It is always a good idea to diversify (especially when times are tough), and micro sites are very very cost efficient. StockXpert also has its own customer base. For one reason or another those people come to this site, and if you shut it down, they are not necessarily going to switch to IS, many of them are going to choose a competing service.

Of course the situation is a little more complicated with all the other acquired properties such as Photos.com and Jupiterimages.com. There are tons of variables, and the people at Getty are going to have a hard time figuring out how to make the most out of everything, but ultimately the goal is always to sell more stuff to more people, and the more stuff they sell the more money you earn.

This is just my opinion though, we won't know anything for sure until the deal gets approved.

I guess these posts by admins on the StockXpert thread are supposed to convince you that all is peachy and you won't even notice that this insignificant little transaction has even taken place?

Quote
There will be no change in your relationship with StockXpert as a result of this announcement.
We will continue to operate as we always have.

Quote
Jupitermedia owned 90% of HAAP which owns two sites, StockXpert and SXC. Getty only bought that 90% share, so the remaining 10% of StockXpert/SXC is still owned by HAAP.

I know I'm convinced. How 'bout you?

You misinterpreted those posts.

The point is that this deal will take months to go through. Obviously until it gets approved by the authorities, it's business as usual. They might not even approve it, but that's not likely. Getty might bring some changes of course, but it's a little bit early to interpret that as the doom of StockXpert. I believe there are plenty of opportunities that can be equally beneficial for everyone, and most of them don't entail doing something "bad" to the site.

As for the second quote, that was merely a reply to someone asking about our own share, it wasn't put there to reassure anybody about anything.

StockXpert.com / Re: Payment delays....what's up?
« on: July 19, 2008, 16:11 »
Hi Guys,

It's Peter from Stockxpert. I'm sorry about the delay, the whole StockXpert team got together this week for a very important meeting so I got behind schedule with payments. Nobody went on vacation, and vacations do not affect our business anyway. I wonder why customer service said such a thing (maybe because I had to travel a lot?) but I'll look into it :)

Someone mentioned when the queue got out of hand last year. Well, back then our main admin had to undergo a sudden and unexpected surgery, which is a bit less likely than catching a cold for example in which case people can still do their jobs. I'm just mentioning this because I don't enjoy reading rumors and malicious comments. Constructive criticism is always welcome.

As for the frequency of payments, when I started the site I decided that I would try to pay everyone within 3 workdays. It's not a guarantee, it does not happen all the time, but since I send payments twice every week, in most cases you will get your money within 3 workdays.

Thanks for reading.

Best regards,
Peter

I don't know when I requested my last payment, that doesn't show on their site, but on their site, my account says the last payment was June 26 but my paypal account shows the deposit going in on July 1. So much for 3 days.

But then I've noticed slower payments from all the sites, off and on. They seem to take turns.

I agree with Lisa...one guy going on vacation so payments don't get made sounds lame to me. But then I see crap like this going on at a lot of companies (the one I work for full time included) and I just don't see how they stay in business.

Welcome to the USA, the new third world country.

Uh oh...you got me started on a rant.  :o
