Hahaha. Yah I'd be sooo upset having that ratty D3 to deal with when you could have a D700 Now if everyone will step this way I'll be taking bets on the announce dates for the D3x and D90, any takers?

I've been praying for this ever since I bought my D300 and MB-D10 last year. I made sure to buy FX glass and aside from my one wide angle I stayed away from all of the expensive DX lenses. It's a perfect 2 camera system aside from the right-angle viewfinders and wide angle lenses.

It's on the UK and US sites now and the press release has been made.
It's the D3 sensor stuck in a D300 body with nearly identical specs to the D300 at an MSRP of $3000 American.

It is a full size sensor. The D3's sensor.

I think most people stopped worrying so much about MP after the 10/12 benchmark was hit.
Either way, the numbers say that Canon has lost market share to Nikon and Sony in the last year, we'll have to see how they do over the next fiscal year.

Canon is sweating on a couple of fronts atm it sounds like with Nikon covering thier entire lineup quite suddenly and Sony gaining a bit of market share at the bottom end of things.

Well thats bloody annoying.
I guess I'll have to do that though. It's a little to much info for my liking.

Hey everyone,
Quick questions about MR's at iStock. I uploaded my first people pictures a few days ago and several were accepted but they found my standard company model release to be unaceptable. A bit of an annoyance seeing as I even went through the trouble to print of and attach a headshot to each one and everyone else has taken them without complaint. I've been looking on iStock for the bare minimum of info that must be included but I must be looking in the wrong spots because I can't find it. Could someone please tell me what I have to add to my MR form? Heres what I currently have:
Photographers Name: Date and Location:
Model Name: Models Phone: Models Address: Models City: Models Country: Models Signature:
Witness Name/Date/Signature:
I'm guessing they want more information about me? I dont know why that would be since they have a full account on me including my SIN number.
Anyhow, any help would be appreciated so I can fix the isue as soon as possible.

The ID was the problem.
How I missed the big purple box where it told me to upload my ID I do not know.

Great thread.
Now I know I need to watch them like a hawk.
Although I've already gotten the impression that Fotolia shouldn't be trusted any further than I could throw one of thier managers (which, incidentally, I would love to do).

Question about this as well.
I submitted ten images weeks ago, probably almost a month. Is this a normal time to wait or should I be contacting support or something?

Good point, I guess the upload system isn't all that bad if you look at it that way.
Maybe my experience has been different but their support people are utterly terrible. I've never posted in their forums and I suppose I never will because I've been banned due to my fairly limited dealings with Fotolia support.
I may have been niave but I assumed most stock sites would try and keep good terms with all contributors. Apparently not so, Fotolia at least seems to have gone out of their way to sour me against their site.

Another newbies opinion. Not only do I hate the upload process but I hate thier support people, thier rejection messages and the entire site in general. They're last on my upload list for sure.

Well I'm a newbie by all accounts. But Fotolia is already getting on my nerves.
Three isolated studio images (from a D300 at ISO 200) with a model all rejected for "Technical Reasons". I'd be fine with that if they gave a useful answer like most of the sites, but no they list ten possible reasons and leave you to figure out what they thought the problem was. Not to mention the fact that these shots were far more commercial (and technically superior) than some of the crap they have accepted from me.
Oh well, DT and 123RF took them, thier loss.

Thanks for your comments After all the comments I've gotten on this I've decided to set some rigid goals just for the sake of experimentation. I'm actually already in at SS and IS so thats one hurdle I don't have to stress about. I think hanging around and listening to all the discussion here for a few months as well as getting very familiar with all of the stock sites was a good idea on my part before starting to do this seriously. It's also nice to have all the paperwork type junk out of the way before hand. I've got all my accounts made and tax info sent in, tests passed, all that. All I have to do is upload pictures now. I certainly plan to keep careful track of my goals and report regularly for myself and anyone else who may be interested (from the response to this thread it seems like a few maybe haha). It will be an adventure for me and hopefully useful in general.

Love Lightroom, been using it since December. Already have a ModelMayhem profile and love craigslist.
I'll keep the earnings in mind, I really appreciate all the personal examples from everyone. I want to go into this with eyes wide opened, so-to-speak.

If I hadn't asked for a D50 as a grad gift a couple of years ago I never would have figured out how much I love taking pictures.
Started with a sony P&S, then the D50 and cheap lenses for a year and a half, and now a D300 and a a few grand in lenses.
Starting with an uber SLR would probably frustrate most newbies and do more harm than good. The more expensive cameras give people more than enough rope to hang themselves. Buy what you can handle. And lenses/lights/support will do more for your photos than a nicer camera will imo, and last a helluva lot longer.

Thanks for the insight! Lots more stuff to keep in mind over the next few weeks.

Ha, thanks Microbius. I just went from being blissfully ignorant to depressingly enlightened.

Right, I understand that. But the missing part of the equation is the buyers. Many of them (the high volume buyers) obviously benefit from the subscription style. So unless we as the photographers stage a revolt is there any other way that subscription sites will stop being a large segment of the market?

Hmm interesting. Thanks for taking the time to explain that for me While I'm a stock newbie I do know a bit about economics. It sounds to me like the subscription market share is shifting around and becoming distributed a little more evenly. If that is correct then I'd imagine it will level out eventually, leaving some sites (SS) a little less profitable and others (DT, 123RF, StockXpert) a little more. Unless there is a massive photog revolt I can't see the subscription model going away as it's obviously in demand from the purchasers (and why wouldn't it be).

« on: May 18, 2008, 00:38 »
Well I won't pretend to know very much about this. But I do have a question.
If you are already selling the same high-res images on SS for next to nothing, then why the concern over selling the photo on DT under a subscription?
I'm probably missing something important here...

Yes I've already jumped all of the hoops. First try with SX and IS, took two trys with SS (to be honest the first set I submitted was horrendous).
So I'm literally ready to run with all 7 sites that I plan to focus on (I have accounts on FP and MP as well, though don't plan to upload to them in the same way as the other 7).

Thanks for the input, and the encouragement! I don't think I'm going into this thinking that it will be easy, listening to all the chat over the last 3 months has banished any thoughts of it being easy. But I am fairly determined, and I'd like to think I can master the ins and outs of the industry. We shall see I suppose. I'll certainly be hanging around bugging the heck out of everyone

Do you watch the news? You can get money from anyone for anything. Someone just sued Volvo because they made the pedals to small for his feet in his new car.
But I was thinking criminal charges. Don't people who sell fraudulent paintings get thrown in jail?
